I met Laura Jane Grace when Against Me! and the BLACKHEARTS were playing the Warped Tour in 2006. This was before Laura's transition began on a physical level--but on a mental level, the groundwork was being laid. I found her story to be very brave and raw: a story of Laura's life, trials and tribulations, which shows the common ground of the experience of youth, music and the obstacles of transitioning. Her memoir, Tranny: Confessions Of Punk Rock's Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout, is a courageous look at her work in progress, finding her true self. -- JOAN JETT
JOAN JETT: Hello!
Laura Jane Grace: Hey, Joan!
Jett: Hey. How are you doing?
Grace: Good, I'm really good. Are you in L.A.? I just got to L.A. yesterday.
Jett: Really? Yeah, we got to L.A. around four this morning.
Grace: Oh, awesome, are you playing? [more] Bette Midler, Sammy Hagar, Charlie Puth and JOAN JETT as Guest Advisors on 'The Voice': Exclusive Clip from: billboard.comBy Nerisha Penrose
The Voice's Battle Rounds commenced on Monday night (Oct. 10) with two team mates from each of season 11's judges competing for the opportunity to advance on to the knock-out rounds. Bette Midler, JOAN JETT, Charlie Puth and Sammy Hagar each joined Team Adam, Team Alicia, Team Blake and Team Miley to assist in mentoring the competing artists and shared their secrets to success in an exclusive clip Billboard is premiering below.
"I looked around me and I looked at what was going on in the world of entertainment and it seemed to me that I could do what they did", Midler volunteers during the clip. "And I decided that was what I was gonna pursue and no one could stop me." Last night, Bette Midler assisted Blake Shelton as he prepared Dan Shafer and Sundance Head for their rendition of The Bad Company's "Feel Like Making Love". Pop newcomer Charlie Puth aided Alicia Keys in one of the night's most heated battles, the Christian Cuevas and Jason Warrior stand-off -- where Cuevas advanced to the next round as Warrior snagged a place on Team Levine.
"The more you are like yourself, and the way you sing, the way you play your instruments, the better chance you have of making it", former Van Halen-singer Sammy Hager advised Adam Levine's group of contestants. Bad Reputation's own and Rock Hall of Famer JOAN JETT signed on as Miley Cyrus' right hand.
The Battle Rounds continues tonight on NBC at 8pm. Watch season 11's celebrity mentors offer their advice below.

It wasn't surprising when fans found out that Cyrus will be joining the judges in Season 11 of 'The Voice' as she was the key advisor of Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams last season. Miley's hoping to win this season with 12 artists in her team.
Cyrus brought the iconic artist JOAN JETT as her adviser on the show. Cyrus said in her recent interview W interview: "I like that I'm associated with sexuality and the kind of punk-rock shit where we just don't care. Like Madonna or Blondie or JOAN JETT - Jett's the one that I still get a little shaky around. She did what I did in such a crazier way. I mean, girls then weren't supposed to wear leather pants and, like, fucking rock out. And she did."
'
Jett also said to an interview: "I think she's finding her way and trying to come out of what she started as. And I think it's absolutely valid - you go this way and you go that way and you try to find a center. She's being bold about it, and I admire that sort of bravery."
Now Let's get to know the contestants in Cyrus' team for this season!

Billie Joe Armstrong fails spectacularly in a small-talk attempt with rock icon JOAN JETT in a clip from Ordinary World, which stars the Green Day frontman in his first leading film role. Armstrong plays past-his-prime punk rocker Perry, who struggles in his attempts to adjust to ordinary life during his band's lengthy "indefinite hiatus."
In the teaser, Perry bumps into his former girlfriend (Judy Greer), who also happens to be Jett's current manager, during his massive 40th birthday party at a New York hotel. Armstrong's star-struck character asks for an introduction with the "Bad Reputation" singer, who plays herself, but the scene spirals into awkward silence after he mentions that his "mother-in-law's name is Joan."
"Have a good day, man," Jett responds. "Say hi to your mother-in-law."
Ordinary World chronicles the insanity of the star-studded hotel blowout, hosted by Perry's brother (Chris Messina) after the aging punk's attorney wife (Selma Blair) and daughter forget his birthday. Perry also encounters former bandmates, including best friend Gary (Fred Armisen), throughout the wild event, as he considers a crucial opportunity to jump-start his stalled music career.
Ordinary World, named for one of Armstrong's original songs written for the film -- and also featured on Green Day's new LP -- originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The movie will hit theaters, digital HD and on-demand Friday, October 14th.

'L7: Pretend We're Dead' tells grunge-punk group's story, using unseen performance footage, interviews with JOAN JETT, Nirvana's Krist Novoselic, more.
Grunge-punk pioneers L7 explore their history in Sarah Price's upcoming documentary L7: Pretend We're Dead. The movie's official trailer finds a pair of rock legends, Garbage singer Shirley Manson and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, praising the band as trailblazers. "They were openly, brazenly feminist, and I really responded to that," Manson says in the clip. "They had the riffs," adds Novoselic. "They had the songs. They just rocked."
The trailer previews the group's whirlwind journey -- from their 1985 formation in Los Angeles through their numerous tours and six studio albums to their initial 2001 breakup. L7 earned critical acclaim along the way, but as singer-guitarist Suzi Gardner notes in the clip, it was difficult to survive financially in a fickle music industry. "People assume that you're raking in the cash if you're on the cover of Spin Magazine," she says. "But unless you sell an insane amount of records, you're just a working stiff at best."
The film -- named after L7's hit song from their third LP, 1992's Bricks Are Heavy -- features unearthed vintage home movies, previously unseen performance footage and newly filmed interviews with Manson, Novoselic, Butch Vig, Brody Dalle, JOAN JETT, Lydia Lunch, CSS, Veruca Salt's Louise Post, Allison Robertson, Allison Wolfe, 7 Year Bitch and X singer Exene Cervenka.
Pretend We're Dead is out this fall, with select screenings to be announced soon. The recently reunited L7 will kick off an Australian tour on Thursday, October 6th. Full dates are available at the band's website (http://l7theband.com/#tour-dates).
