Do you love rock 'n' roll?
On Sunday, August, 22, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and music maven JOAN JETT is bringing her band The Blackheart's to the John T. Floore Country Store.
Tickets are now on sale at $40 dollars a pop for the night of iconic 80's rock at the landmark outdoor venue in Helotes, Texas. General admission is standing room only, however those willing to shell out a little more can purchase a seat at a VIP table near the stage, starting at $75 per ticket.
Now 62, JOAN JETT has lived an illustrious punk-rock life, all while spawning legions of shag hairdo imitators. Before the Blackheart's, Jett performed in a band called RUNAWAYS, producing mega-hit, "Cherry Bomb." In 1981, she started her own record label, and through her own musical genius has acquired multiple platinum and gold records.
Jett's performance with the Blackheart's will begin at 9 p.m., after a set by the San Antonio-based, Girl in a Coma spin-off, Fea. Appropriately, Phanie Diaz and Jenn Alva's band is also signed to Jett's label, BLACKHEART RECORDS. A pre-show drink at their bar, Bang-Bang Bar, seems in order.
At this point, JOAN JETT's accolades outshine her "bad reputation." For more information, check out the event on Facebook." Wanda Jackson Announces Final Album ÔEncore' With JOAN JETT from: rollingstone.com by JON FREEMAN
Jett co-produced the rockabilly legend's new album and appears on three songs with Jackson.
Wanda Jackson will return for her final project this summer. Titled Encore, the Queen of Rockabilly's new album will be released August 20th via Big Machine/Blackheart.
Encore puts the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member together with fellow rocker JOAN JETT and KENNY LAGUNA for eight songs that were recorded before Jackson announced her retirement from touring in 2019. Jett appears on several of the tracks, including "Treat Me Like a Lady" and "Two Shots," which also includes a guest appearance by Elle King. "Good Girl Down," which Angaleena Presley first recorded for Wrangled, appears here featuring Presley and Candi Carpenter.
The album's first single is Jackson's cover of "It Keeps Right On a Hurtin'," a 1962 hit for Johnny Tillotson. Jackson doesn't break into her signature growl, instead giving the song a Nashville Sound makeover complete with "Pig" Robbins-style piano and an abundance of backing oohs and ahhs.
Encore is Jackson's 32nd album and follows 2010's The Party Ain't Over, which was produced by Jack White, and 2012's Unfinished Business, which was produced by the late Justin Townes Earle.
Encore track list:
1. "Big Baby"
2. "Two Shots" (featuring Elle King and JOAN JETT)
3. "You Drive Me Wild"
4. "Good Girl Down" (featuring Angaleena Presley and Candi Carpenter)
5. "It Keeps Right on a Hurtin'"
6. "We Gotta Stop"
7. "Treat Me Like a Lady" (featuring JOAN JETT)
8. "That What Love Is" (featuring JOAN JETT) " JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS bringing rock 'n' roll to the Surf Ballroom in September from: globegazette.com by Jared McNett | Promo image from Surf Ballroom
North Iowa rock music aficionados won't hate themselves for seeing this show.
On Friday, Sept. 10, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS will take to the stage at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake to rip through six decades of hard rock and punk tunes. Doors for the show open at 7 p.m. and tickets to see the multi-platinum act are $62 in advance or $67 at the door.
Jett notched her first hit as a solo act with the furious, sub-three minute missive "Bad Reputation" before cementing her status with the anthemic "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," an adept cover of "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells and the groove-heavy kiss-off "Hate Myself for Loving You."
Before the BLACKHEARTS years, Jett made waves as a teenager in the all-female, West Coast punk band the RUNAWAYS who are best known now for the early punk classic "Cherry Bomb," which dropped as a single the same year as "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones. Though the RUNAWAYS only stuck together for four albums over a four-year period, they've since been immortalized in film and are counted as a influence by countless female bands that have arrived on the scene since their time.
Along with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Jett's also been listed as one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone. She's the second hall-of-famer the Surf Ballroom has announced this week after news on Tuesday that blues lifer Elvin Bishop is making his way to town in October." Wanda Jackson, "Queen of Rockabilly," has announced a new album, Encore, due Aug. 20, produced by JOAN JETT and Jett's own longtime producer, KENNY LAGUNA. She also released the album's first single, "It Keeps Right On A Hurtin'."
Jett tweeted on Friday about the LP, which features duets with Jett, Elle King, Angaleena Presley of Pistol Annies and Candi Carpenter.
"This project is one of the most personal pieces I have ever released," Jackson wrote on her Facebook page. "I hope y'all love it as much as I do!
Jackson, an early force in rockabilly music, rose to fame with a series of hits between the late '50s and early '70s, including "Let's Have A Party," "Tears Will Be the Chaser for Your Wine," "A Woman Lives for Love" and "Fancy Satin Pillows." When her once-boyfriend Elvis Presley suggested she switch from country to rock, Jackson steamrolled into the scene, flaunting what some called a "nasty" voice and becoming peers with singers like Jerry Lee Lewis.
"Everyone who cares about roots music and rock and roll reveres Wanda," singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash said in 2009 as she inducted Jackson into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Early Influence category, "but in particular every young woman I know, musician or otherwise, worships her as the first as the prototype, the first female rockstar, as she so modestly acknowledges herself."

The lineup for the Stern Grove Festival has been announced for 2021. After a year off, the summertime series will feature free outdoor concerts by Thundercat, Perfume Genius, Tower of Power with Too Short, Thievery Corporation, Ledisi, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, JOAN JETT, X, Fitz and the Tantrums, and the San Francisco Symphony as headliners.
One big change this year: while concerts at Stern Grove will still be free, attendees must register in advance to reserve their spot. Reservations for the June 20 concert with Ledisi open today, June 8, at 2pm; other reservation openings will follow, twelve days before their respective concerts.
As should become apparent when audiences in the idyllic meadow shout Too Short's favorite word, this lineup is perhaps the festival's most stylistically diverse yet. "We're even going to push a few more boundaries than we usually do," said Executive Director Bob Fiedler in a statement. "Whether itÕs punk rock, hip-hop, crossover jazz, or the good old Symphony on the Fourth of July, we hope that everyone can find something they love in this yearÕs lineup."
As for local artists, they're well-represented in the opening slots by the likes of La Do–a, DJ Shortkut, Honey Mahogany, the Avengers and others.
Other changes for 2021? Concerts at Stern Grove will be available to stream live on Stern Grove's website, and additional protocols for COVID safety will be enacted. [more] JOAN JETT - PROFESSOR OF ROCK TELLS STORY OF ROCK TRAILBLAZER AND HER TOP 5 SONGS; VIDEO from: bravewords.com by Bravewords
