JOAN JETT Explains Why The RUNAWAYS Rejected 'I Love Rock 'N Roll'
from: iheart.com/

The title track for JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS' best-selling album could easily have been a hit for Jett's previous band, The RUNAWAYS, but they turned it down.

Jett showed the song to the The RUNAWAYS in 1977. The band broke up in 1979. Two years later, "I Love Rock 'N Roll" became a massive hit for Jett in the U.S and set the tone for her Hall of Fame career with her own band.

She tells SXM's Volume that the only reason The RUNAWAYS didn't record "I Love Rock 'N Roll" was because they had just done another song with a similar title.

"It was a completely rational reason why we didn't do it. ...I totally kind of agreed with the girls," Jett recalled. "When I found the song, our first album had just come out and we had covered Lou Reed's 'Rock N' Roll.' I didn't want to just turn right around and do another song with rock n' roll in the title. To me it's geeky. ...It was just too much 'rock.' They didn't want to do it..."

The original song was written by Jake Hooker and Alan Merrill and released in 1975 by the Arrows. Jett first heard the song while watching television in the U.K. while on tour in '76.

When The RUNAWAYS turned down the idea of recording the song, Jett said she kept it in her back pocket for a future project.

The version that became a hit for her in 1981 was at least her second try and recording it.

Jett's will be back on tour in 2021 with Motley Crue, Def Leppard and Poison.

TOM MORELLO ANNOUNCES A COLLABORATION WITH LADY GAGA, JOAN JETT AND FAITH NO MORE
from: metalheadzone.com/

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello posted several pictures on his Instagram account and announced an upcoming collaboration with many musicians including Lady Gaga, JOAN JETT, and Faith No More.

As you might remember, Tom Morello has been hosting his own SiriusXM Lithium show named after his 2007 album ‘One Man Revolution.' ‘One Man Revolution' album was released after Morello started performing as The Nightwatchman in 2003 due to his political views.

On his show ‘One Man Revolution,' Tom Morello has been welcoming musicians and celebrities to talk about daily issues and their music. As he recently announced on Instagram, Tom was planning to have a special episode for the Pride Month. In the upcoming show, there will be many musicians including Lady Gaga, Judas Priest, JOAN JETT, Faith No More, Green Day, and more joining Tom to talk about Pride Month 2020.

On the caption of his Instagram post, Tom mentioned how he grew up in a small conservative town imposed with prejudiced views. However, apparently later he realized he was wrong and began fighting equality for all.

Here's what Tom Morello stated on the caption of his Instagram post:

"This week on my #OneManRevolution at SiriusXM Lithium show we celebrate with Pride Month 2020 with Lady Gaga, Judas Priest, Queen, Faith No More, Bikini Kill, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Green Day, Lock Up, K.Flay & more!

I grew up in a small conservative town where mean spirited homophobia was rampant. As a young person, I shared those prejudiced views. I later came to realize how ridiculous and wrong that was and that the fight for equality for each is the fight for equality for all. I still have a lot to learn but in the meantime, it's time to rock to some awesome jams. TUNE IN!"

Prince to Springsteen: six of the greatest backing bands behind the stars
from: thenational.ae

From the E Street Band to The Wailers, the biggest stars made it with a little help

On June 9, 1972 opening notes for one of rock music's most famous bands were strummed.

Almost half a century ago, US singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen signed with Columbia Records and immediately set to work on his classic 1972 album, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ.

That meant he needed to assemble a band to match his ambition.

But that's not as easy as it sounds. Setting up the right group is more than simply looking for the finest musicians available.

It is more about finding that rare alchemy of talent and humility that would, in turn, create a musical shorthand, allowing both leader and group to be in sync on stage and record.

Here are six examples of artists at one with their band:

1. Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band
Springsteen's band was named after the street in New Jersey where he assembled the original quintet from players in the neighbourhood.

The success of Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ, and subsequent records Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town and The River are a showcase of the group's influence on The Boss's sound. From the saxophone playing of the late Clarence Clemons, to the sturdy riffs of Steven Van Zandt, the line up provided the fire and drama to Springsteen's chronicles of life in small town America.

The fact that The E Street Band remains synonymous with Springsteen's celebrated body of work is an example of how, in popular music, the whole is better than the sum of its parts.

Fea to Play Second Live-Streamed Tribute Concert, This Time Honoring Mentor JOAN JETT
from: sacurrent.com

For those who didn't get enough of Chicana punk quartet Fea during its recent live-streamed tribute to riot grrrl groundbreakers Bikini Kill, fret not. The SA-based band's got another tribute performance on the way - and, as with the previous, it will deliver the lyrics en espanol.

Fea will perform a Thursday, June 18 show via the StageIt online platform, billing itself as Letty Fea y Los Corazones Negros.

Those with even a rudimentary grasp of Spanish have likely figured out the group's performing a Spanish-language tribune to JOAN JETT. It's also scheduled to play some of its own tunes, hold a Q&A and pay a birthday tribute to members Phanie Diaz and Sofi Lopez.

"You don’t want to miss the show!" Fea teases on Facebook. "Who knows who will be there?"

Does that mean Jett herself?

Consider it a possibility. After all, the legendary rocker has not only been a source of inspiration for the band but also a mentor. Fea released its sophomore album No Novelties late last year on Jett’s BLACKHEART RECORDS, and Jett championed Girl in a Coma, the outfit the Fea spun off from.

The show will start at 9 p.m. CST and costs $5 to view. Information and virtual tickets are available online.

from: billboard.com

Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison and JOAN JETT's North American stadium tour won't be happening this summer, the artists announced on Monday (June 1).

"We wanted to continue to communicate with our fans and update you with valid information as it becomes available. The official decision has been made to move all 2020 North American stadium tour dates into the summer of 2021," the four iconic rock bands said in a joint statement on social media. "The new stadium dates are being rescheduled. Your tickets will be honored for all postponed shows and refund policy information will be made available shortly. Stay tuned, be safe and we will see you next year. - Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison & JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS."

The run of 30 dates was originally scheduled to kick off in just two weeks, with the first show slated for June 18 at Jacksonville, Fla.'s TIAA Bank Field. Inspired in part by the success of Motley Crue Netflix biopic 'The Dirt,' the stadium tour was meant to run through the entire summer, hitting major cities including Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Detroit before wrapping up Sept. 5 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. (Tuk Smith & The Restless Hearts were also slated as the opening act for the North American jaunt.)
