This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.

The amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted American women the right to vote, a right known as women's suffrage, and was ratified on Aug. 18, 1920, ending almost a century of protest.

The movement is the impetus behind the documentary "Rise Up: Songs of the Women's Movement," which will premiere at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, on New Mexico PBS. It will air again at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, and 9:30 p.m. Sunday, March 8.

"Rise Up" chronicles the role that music played in one of the nation's most dynamic social movements of the 20th century - the women's rights movement in the 1960s and '70s.

Hit songs that became empowering and beloved anthems are performed by Aretha Franklin, Lesley Gore, Helen Reddy, Loretta Lynn, Janis Ian, Holly Near, Gloria Gaynor, Dolly Parton, JOAN JETT, Cyndi Lauper, Melissa Etheridge, Tina Turner, Eurythmics (Annie Lennox) and others.

The documentary is being aired as part of Women's History Month.

At the helm of the documentary are Heather A. Smith and Donna Korones.

Smith says the documentary is intended to be informative, while reminiscing with the music.

Iggy Pop has never done anything by halves and the latest release from his former band, The Stooges, proves that ethos hasn't changed a bit. The band are set to release a huge vinyl box set of their seminal album Fun House.

A pivotal moment in the evolution of rock and roll, the album has long been lauded as the birthplace of punk and while the band aren't making that claim they are giving the record, released in 1970 and enjoying its 50th anniversary, a proper outing.

Out on July 17th via Rhino Records, the album is a huge 15xLP collection that features the album's complete session, a live New York performance from 1970, a slipmat, posters, prints, a 45 adapter, and two 7″ singles. It makes one hell of a box set.

The set also comes with liner notes from a plethora of artists who saw the record as the pinnacle of their inspiration, including, Tom Morello, JOAN JETT, Flea, Thurston Moore, Henry Rollins, Steve Van Zandt, and more.

But you better be quick as there are only exactly 1,970 copies available for purchase and this collector's item will go very quickly indeed.

from: nightswithalicecooper.com

JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS are squeezing in a string of spring dates before they join up with Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Poison for a major stadium tour this summer. Jett and the band kick off the run on March 13th in Ivins, Utah at Tuacahn Amphitheatre and wraps things up over two nights -- June 5th and 6th -- at Las Vegas' The Pearl.

Jett will play a one-off show during the summer on July 18th at Sparks, Nevada's Nugget Event Center, and already has her first post-Crue / Leppard tour gig planned for September 7th in Syracuse, New York at the New York State Fair.

Although revered for both their classic '80s hits and ongoing pedal to the metal live shows, JOAN JETT revealed that back in the day, she and the BLACKHEARTS faced nothing but rejection upon trying to land a record deal: ["We wanted to be on a major, we really wanted to be on a major label. We sent four or five songs; 'Bad Reputation,' I Love Rock N' Roll,' 'Crimson And Clover,' 'Do You Wanna Touch Me. . .' -- maybe one other one, all of which turned out to be Top 10 hits. We got 23 rejection letters from all the majors and the minors: 'You guys need a song search. . . . Maybe she should lose the guitar. . .' So, you gotta say to yourself, 'Either they can't hear hits, or they're not listening to the tapes' -- but whatever it is, they completely ignored it."] SOUNDCUE (:30 OC: . . . completely ignored it)

Every Song In The Birds Of Prey Movie
from: screenrant.com

Birds of Prey features songs that are just as wild and crazy as its butt-kicking heroines. Here's every song heard in Harley Quinn's new movie.

The soundtrack for the latest film in the DC Extended Universe, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), features songs that are just as wild and crazy as its cast of butt-kicking heroines. Starring and produced by Margot Robbie, directed by Cathy Yan, and with a screenplay by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), Birds of Prey is a female tour de force, and as such, its soundtrack is stacked with some sensational women musicians.

Joining Robbie's now-iconic Harley in Birds of Prey is Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance/Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli/Huntress, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain. Throughout the film, these different women's stories begin to slowly intersect, and eventually, they're forced to team up in order to take down Gotham crime boss, Roman Sionis/Black Mask (Ewan McGregor). He's aided by his right hand man and violent psychopath, Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina), but together, these ladies are unmistakably a force to be reckoned with.

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) begins with Harley recounting her breakup with the Joker and it's all set to the rather obvious but no less perfect song choice of "I Hate Myself For Loving You" by JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS. From there, the film moves to the club - Black Mask's club, specifically - where many scenes in the film take place and almost all of which feature a song from Birds of Prey: The Album, like "Bad B**ch" by Doja Cat or "Invisible Chains" by Lauren Jauregui. (Note: the soundtrack album doesn't include every song heard in Birds of Prey, just those recorded for the film.)

After Harley overhears her roller derby pals talking behind her back and tosses the tray of margaritas (all while Liquits' "Desde Que" plays at the Mexican restaurant), she gets the bright idea to blow up Ace Chemicals. The stunning shot is accompanied by another on-the-nose song choice, "Joke's On You" by Charlotte Lawrence, that plays as Harley triumphantly struts away from the rainbow-colored explosion. With Harley's character established, Birds of Prey moves on to introducing its other heroines, like Renee Montoya and Huntress in a scene where the former investigates the latter's latest crime - an assassination inside an Italian restaurant set to "Sweet Dreams (Of You)" by Patsy Cline. Meanwhile, Harley is lusting after a most delicious bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich as Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More, Baby" plays.
