'WrestleMania 35': JOAN JETT Set to Perform "Bad Reputation" Live, Ronda Rousey Responds
from: bleedingcool.com

Rock icon JOAN JETT is no stranger to large crowds, but come April 7th she'll be stepping out into WWE's "Grandest Stage of Them All" WrestleMania 35 to perform one of her signature songs "Bad Reputation" live to honor Ronda Rousey's title defense at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Rousey adopted Jett's hit song from her debut album in 1980 of the same name during her UFC run in 2013, carrying it over carried to WWE in 2018 as she transitioned from the Octagon to the Squared Circle.

Currently holding the title belt as WWE Raw Women's Champion, Rousey faces off against WWE SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch at the annual professional wrestling spectacle. This year marks the first time a women's match has ever main-evented a WrestleMania.

In a stunning turn of events this week on SmackDown, Flair defeated the brand's current champion Asuka to capture the SmackDown title. Flair now holding a belt adds an extra dynamic to the match â€" but then there's always the option the WWE has to invoke Asuka's rematch clause to benefit the storyline. It would be bad form on the WWE's part to shoehorn Asuka into the WrestleMania main event at the last minute and change it to a Fatal Four-Way. What it does do is build a potential Lynch/Flair storyline post-WrestleMania: Flair could cost Lynch the title without actually winning the match. That way, Rousey and Flair still have titles â€" leaving Lynch out in the cold. Serious storyline potential there.

A staple in the music industry for over 40 years and Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Inductee in 2015, Jett joins the likes of Motorhead, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Kid Rock, Diddy, Machine Gun Kelly, Skylar Grey, Travis Barker, and Run-DMC and more â€" all having been a part of WrestleMania lore.

JOAN JETT loves rock 'n' roll and rockers love her right back

Joan Larkin was nine years old when her family moved to the town of Rockville. Enough said. Five years on, she got her first guitarâ€"but quit lessons when her instructor insisted on teaching her folk songs.

After the family moved to California, her parents divorced and Joan Larkin changed her name to JOAN JETT. Not because it sounded like a star (although it does). But in a textbook case of "you couldn't make this up," she did it because her mother's maiden name was Jett.

It's easy to label JOAN JETT as a one-hit-wonder for the classic 45 I Love Rock and Roll with her band The BLACKHEARTS. Yet she had already seen substantial success with her previous band The RUNAWAYS, touring with, among others, Cheap Trick, the Ramones, Van Halen and Tom Petty.

More to the point, it is the sheer scale of the song's success that tends to eclipse her multitudinous other achievements. Originally by The Arrows, I Love Rock 'n' Roll was first recorded by Jett as a demo in 1979 with members of the The Sex Pistols.

Fast forward three years, and the record was number one on the Billboard 100 for seven weeks in a row in 1982. It is now the 56th best selling Billboard single of all time

JOAN JETT talks new music, more

JOAN JETT and KENNY LAGUNA - her longtime producer and songwriting partner, as well as the keyboardist in her band, the BLACKHEARTS - know they are still making good music. They just wish more people would get to hear it.

"We're trying to figure out a way to work on the single 'Fresh Start,' which I think is the best thing we've done in years and years," Laguna says of the theme song from the Jett documentary "Bad Reputation," released last year. "It's very hard for people of our era to get on mainstream radio. … I don't resent it at all, like some of our friends. People who are so iconic, like the Stones or Bruce Springsteen - they're not getting on the radio. When I was a kid and buying rock and roll records, my parents were freaked out that their idols were off the radio. No more Doris Day, sorry. That's what happens."

"We keep trying," adds Jett, 60, who has called Long Beach, N.Y., home for decades. "What else are you going to do? You just have to try. Keep fighting."

After all, that's what the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has been doing for pretty much her entire career. So why stop now?

"We keep waiting for our George Foreman moment," says Laguna, referring to Foreman knocking out Michael Moorer in 1994 to regain the title of heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 45.

For Jett, though, getting another hit isn't the point. "You realize that the idea of 'a hit' is a whole business thing going on that has nothing to do with what is the best, the most fun songs that people want to hear," she says. "It just doesn't work that way."

"Joan never had a hit," Laguna begins.

"Without a struggle," finishes Jett.

JOAN JETT Shreds Stubb's at SXSW Music
I love rock & roll is here to stay
from: austinchronicle.com

JOAN JETT doesn't play rock & roll. She is rock & roll.

The onetime Joan Marie Larkin, 60, doesn't just love rock & roll, as she declared in her breakthrough hit of 1981. She embodies the genre like no one this side of Keith Richards. Which made her Tuesday night Stubb's set for the SXSW Interactive Bash so cool on a sticky Lone Star evening.

Myles Hendrik, the DJ spinning grooves before the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member and her meat-and-potatoes band, seemed hi-tech in the face of what followed. Then again, his set sounded like someone's iPod on shuffle, even as he actually matched beats on tracks from the Smiths to AC/DC.

So this night belonged to Jett, who consistently delivers live. She gave us those hits: "I Love Rock & Roll," "Do You Wanna Touch Me," "Crimson & Clover," "Fake Friends," "Light of Day," "Bad Reputation." She also gave us "Cherry Bomb," a reminder that the native Philly suburbanite began her career as leader of all-girl punk metallurgists the RUNAWAYS.

Jett gave the assemblage a couple of surprises in I Love Rock & Roll deep cuts "Love Is Pain" and show opener "Victim of Circumstance," complete with a rare lead guitar break from the bandleader. As Sly Stone's "Everyday People" closed the set, Danny & the Juniors' "Rock & Roll is Here to Stay" already rising on the P.A., Jett and band took a sweaty bow.

They had just played the best show many of us will see this week.

'Music speaks to people in different ways': lunch with JOAN JETT

Inside St Kilda's revamped Esplanade Hotel the venue's famous live music space, the Gershwin Room, is empty and quiet. JOAN JETT, in the midst of a summer tour, had a look around and briefly flashed that same dazzling, slightly mischievous smile her fans saw the previous night when she was playing a show across town.

"That's a great stage," she said, "nice and low, close to the audience."

Over more than four decades in the music industry the place Jett most likes to be is close to her audience, connected to rock'n'roll fans and like-minded musicians who put creativity and passion ahead of celebrity status and the lure of riches. It's far from an easy ride in the cut-throat world of business and entertainment but Jett, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three years ago, has never been particularly interested in strolling along life's easier paths.

Stepping into the bustling Espy Kitchen, which only recently opened after a near three-year refurbishment of the entire venue, we take our seats close to where multiple chefs are furiously working the grills, loading pizzas into wood-fired ovens and lining up dishes to be quickly whisked away to customers.

Dressed head-to-toe in black, her black hair loosely framing dramatically darkened eyes, Jett suggests a beer, perhaps Drake's Hop Vice to start lunch. Being a warm outside that seemed like a splendid idea so we each ordered a bottle.
