Sonic Temple announces 2019 lineup
from: bgfalconmedia.com
By Lauren Hammer | WBGU-FM Contributing Writer
At the Mapfre Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, the 2019 Sonic Temple Art and Music Festival will be hosting a very exciting lineup of artists this upcoming May. Sonic Temple is the biggest rock music event in Ohio, and this year's diverse lineup certainly lives up to that expectation. The festival will be featuring everything from rock legends to underrated bands still garnering popularity. Some of the biggest names playing hardly require an introduction, they include The Foo Fighters, Disturbed, Bring Me the Horizon, and JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS. These legends will be gracing the stage as well as some promising newer talents. Many of the bands playing this year are groups and artists on the rise with enough flair to speak for themselves. To list a few of them; Pussy Riot, Badflower, Killswitch Engage, The Glorious Sons, Dirty Honey, Beartooth, The Struts, and many many more will all be performing this May.
Each of these groups fit into the rock genre and subgenres in their own ways, unfortunately I can't go into an in-depth analysis on all 58 performers and groups coming to the stage this 2019. I can, however, spotlight a handful of them. I personally have seen three of these bands perform before and can say I very much look forward to seeing them again. The first of these three would be The Struts, an unapologetically extra group of glam rockers from Derbyshire. England. Their music is as exciting and glamourous as they are, always maintaining a distinct “Struts†vibe without getting stale or predictable. They've just released their second album this past October titled “Young and Dangerous†many songs from which they will likely be performing at Sonic temple. Another band I'm excited to see at this festival is The Glorious Sons, from Ontario, Canada. Their music can be described as slightly gritty, slightly soulful heartland rock. Watching them perform from any of their three albums is wild in the best ways. Their outlandish and erratic stage presence demands your full attention and they truly make it a show to remember. The final band I'll spotlight is called Badflower, a hard rock group founded in Los Angeles, California. Their music is mostly comprised of singles and EP's but each song is a deeply cathartic and violent outburst of emotion that truly can stand on its own. This mood set by their music is perfectly mirrored with the band's stage presence, going as hard as they physically can. They put on such an emotionally charged show its hard not to get swept up into the whirlwind with them. If every other band at Sonic Temple performs at the same degree as these three bands do, this will without a doubt be a festival to remember.

For the second week in a row, the number of new DVD and Blu-ray releases is extremely limited due to the holidays. Here's what's available Jan. 1.
"Bad Reputation": The documentary looks at how while JOAN JETT was becoming a music superstar with No. 1 hits like "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," there was a lot more to her story. Her life was a wild ride, as revealed by Jett and her close friends, who talk about how it really was in the early days of the '70s punk scene and the tough trek that led to rock stardom.
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer JOAN JETT brings her hot guitar and 'Bad Reputation' to Rocksino
from: cleveland.com
By Chuck Yarborough, The Plain Dealer
CLEVELAND, Ohio - JOAN JETT doesn't give a, ahem, hoot about her so-called "Bad Reputation." The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer embraces it.
Not because the singer who brings her band to the Hard Rock Rocksino on Sunday, Dec. 16, is mean-spirited, not by a long shot. She's a longtime animal rights activist (her famous leather look is fake, she noted in a New York Times interview about a new documentary called "Bad Reputation," and it's the only thing about her that IS fake).
It's just that Jett has been a take-no-prisoners kind of woman from her teenage days as a co-founder of the RUNAWAYS, and she's spent her life for both her music and her gender.
"You can't never take anything for granted,'' she said in an interview for The Plain Dealer's profile on her prior to her 2015 induction into the Hall. "You just have to put your head down and work.
"It's kind of hard for me because I'm in the middle of it, knowing this female thing has affected it,'' she said in a telephone interview in which she was joined by her friend and longtime manager, KENNY LAGUNA. "Girls are out there playing rock 'n' roll.''
Problem is, even today, they're not getting the respect and attention they deserve and have earned. As Jett said, "It's a struggle or any rock band to get attention,'' but it's doubly hard for women.
"We've seen statistics about women,'' interjected Laguna. "In alternative radio, it's 92 percent men. In rock radio, this classic rock oldies format that used to be cutting edge, [men] are in the 90 percentile, too. [more]

North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, celebrated another year of animal rescue work at its annual "Get Your Rescue On Gala" on Friday, Nov. 30 at Pier 60 At Chelsea Piers.
This year's evening drew attendees from all sectors of New York's animal-loving community and beyond. Impractical Jokers star Joe Gatto served as host for the evening's festivities where iHeart radio legend Elvis Duran received the "Crystal Collar Award" and corporate honoree Tito's Handmade Vodka was recognized. The gala's grand finale was a phenomenal live performance by rock 'n' roll icon JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS.
The next generation of heroes was represented by McKinney "Mac" Meek, the Ashland, Kentucky high school junior and "Mutt-i-Grees" Curriculum National Student Ambassador who received North Shore Animal League America's first-ever "Mutt-i-Grees Humane Leadership Award."
Among the "boldface names" to grace the red carpet, in addition to Beth and Howard Stern, were radio legend and Crystal Collar honoree Elvis Duran; Impractical Jokers' star and event host Joe Gatto; rock 'n' roll legend JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS; The Howard Stern Show's Robin Quivers and Gary Dell'Abate; Impractical Jokers' Brian "Q" Quinn; stage, film and TV actress, Kathryn Erbe; President & CEO of The Hallmark Channel, Bill Abbott; TV producer, entertainer and comedian, Brian Balthazar; WPIX-11 Anchor, Tamsen Fadal; iHeart Radio personality Maria Milito; comedian Lisa Lampanelli; iHeart Radio personality Mo Bounce; Good Morning America producers Tony Morrison and Danielle Librizzo; Good Morning America correspondent Will Ganss; NY Yankees play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay and broadcast journalist Jodi Applegate; New York Live host Lauren Scala; journalist and author Carole Radziwill; fashion designer Mark Bouwer; actor Branden Wellington; Jersey Shore Vacation's Vinny Guadagnino; WPIX-11 anchor Dan Mannarino; among others.
The yearly gala supports North Shore Animal League America's no-kill mission with all proceeds from the event dedicated to the ongoing capital campaign for Bianca's Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center located on the Port Washington campus. This 14,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will enable Animal League America to rescue even more animals by adding a second floor to the existing shelter that will host a cage-free, natural living environment for felines.
Yeah, That WAS JOAN JETT in Quincy This Weekend
from: y101radio.com
By Ben Braun
I gotta hand it to the folks over at Dot foods; they SERIOUSLY know how to throw a Christmas party (I mean, so I've heard). Every other year or so, organizers bring a major music act to Quincy to headline the event that makes everyone else say "man, they're SO lucky!" And this year is no different.
Man, they're SO lucky!
This year's headliner was none other than rock and roll lover and bad reputation haver, JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS! That's right, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers took the stage at Oakley-Lindsay on Saturday night and (presumably) melted the collective faces of all in attendance.
Recent Dot Christmas parties have featured country stars Big & Rich and Montgomery Gentry as well as Blue Collar comedian Bill Engvall. Details on the event are always pretty hush hush and they're pretty strict about who makes the guest list on these major festivities. Of course, if you want to be a part of the next holiday rager, here's the best way I've found to get in.
