The Best Uses of JOAN JETT Songs in Movies or TV
from: tvovermind.com

From the 70s on JOAN JETT has been all attitude and all awesome when she hits the stage. It's obvious that she's slowed down just a tad since she started, she is in her 60s at this point and no doubt feels her age every now and then, but her act has always been one of the most edgy of all time. When she first started out it was all edge, all the time, and she was adamant about creating a rock band of her own composed of only women. People have wondered in the past if that says anything about her sexuality but in truth she has been kind of vague about the subject since so many people have asked. It's interesting that such a thing would come up since in truth it's no one else's business and the main thing that anyone really wants to know is when and where her next appearance is going to be.

Here are a few of her songs as they've been played in TV and movies.
5. Guardians of the Galaxy - Cherry Bomb

People are absolutely elated to see this movie come out in the MCU lineup since it was one more step towards whatever master stroke the MCU was planning with the post-credit scenes that kept popping up. The Guardians in this generation were quite different than the Guardians in the previous generation however since the only person that was ever a Guardian to begin with was Yondu. Gamorra and Drax were far different before Marvel redid so much, and Groot is possibly older than any of them when it comes to the comics. Despite all that however the movie was a big hit, as was the sequel.

4. The Duff - Bad Reputation

It's a sad but true fact that some of the things detailed in movies are quite true when it comes to high school. The DUFF is unfortunately, in this film, the Designated Ugly Fat Friend that doesn't necessarily have to be fat or ugly but is less popular than anyone else. The only thing about this is that being truly popular doesn't come with prerequisite of being able to make other people miserable, but instead is the ability to feel good about yourself and to empower others to do the same. That being said, the 'popular' folks that live to make others feel absolutely horrid are typically the folks that have some very deep issues to deal with.

3. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising - Time Has Come Today

19 BLACK FRIDAY RECORD STORE DAY EXCLUSIVES WE CAN'T WAIT TO BUY
from: altpress.com

Black Friday and Record Store Day are two very different holidays. Where Black Friday is about finding the cheapest deals at the most convenient place, Record Store Day is all about shopping locally at independent stores.

Now, in an attempt to get more people to support their local record stores, RSD is coming at us with more exclusive releases, and we couldn't be more excited. Check out some of the releases hitting shelves Nov. 23.

1. BABYMETAL - "Distortion" (2000 copies) A single from earlier this year, "Distortion" is a song that kicks ass. With only 2,000 copies of this 12-inch vinyl featuring a studio version and Download Festival performance, this single from BABYMETAL is definitely on our wish list this Black Friday.

2. Ramones - Live In Glasgow December 19, 1977
This double LP is a Record Store Day exclusive with an unknown amount of copies. It marks the first time the multi-track recording of the Ramones' Apollo Centre gig is available. The recording happened just a few days prior to recording their classic live album It's Alive.

3. The Smashing Pumpkins - Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.
It hasn't been revealed how many pressings there are of the Smashing Pumpkins' release. All we know is that it's a picture disc, a record store day first and we want it.

4. JOAN JETT - Bad Reputation (Music From The Original Motion Picture) (3000 copies)
This JOAN JETT documentary soundtrack is something every punk-rock vinyl lover needs in their collection. Thankfully, you can finally get it this Friday.

5. Rage Against The Machine - Live & Rare (5000 copies)
Rage Against The Machine only released this collection of tracks in Japan in 1997, marking this 2018 release as the first time they're being pressed into vinyl. We need this new album like we need air. More importantly, we need it on vinyl.

6. Twiztid - splitinthispaint (1000 copies)
This is a rare Record Store Day release, with only a thousand quantities in stock. The seven-inch features remixes of two tracksâ€""Because I'm A Monster" and "Here With The Dead"â€"from Twiztid's upcoming album.

Hear John Legend, JOAN JETT, Tony Bennett's New Christmas Songs
from: rollingstone.com

Why Don't We, Jon Batiste, Aloe Blacc, Jim James join Miley Cyrus, DMX and Demi Lovato on Spotify's expanding holiday playlist.

For the second year, Spotify brings early presents for every kind of music fan under its proverbial Christmas tree with 15 new tracks added to its hit playlist, Spotify Singles: Christmas Collection. The new batch is a mixed bag of artists, with boy band Why Don't We's rollicking "Feliz Navidad" to alt-guitar virtuoso Jim James laying down a threadbare rendition of "Oh My Christmas Tree" to Meghan Trainor picking up the sweet and timeless "White Christmas" (which she recorded in Spotify's Nashville studio last spring.)

John Legend gives the Jackson 5's "Give Love on Christmas Day" his signature piano-soul treatment, Nina Nesbitt sings a stunning "O Holy Night" and Juilliard buds Jon Batiste and Danielle Brooks (Taystee from Orange Is The New Black!) team on "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" that's perfect for a crackling fire on a cold night.

There's also a jazzy rendition of "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" by Tony Bennett and Diana Krall (the yin to the Springsteen classic's yang). Indie rockers Pale Waves gave George Michael's "Last Christmas" a spritely yelp. And - my personal favorite - JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS blew through Spotify's New York headquarters in September with a Keith Moon-inspired "Little Drummer Boy."

"Hopefully we captured the rock and roll flavor of Keith's amazing style, while still maintaining the poignant nature of the great lyric and the song," Jett said.

"It's definitely the most rocking track we have across our Christmas singles," Spotify Singles executive producer Bryan Grone tells Rolling Stone. "The moment you hear it you're like ‘hell yeah, that's JOAN JETT.'"

Speaking of classic rockers, Levon Helm's daughter Amy Helm recorded a faithful cover of The Band's "Christmas Must Be Tonight," backed by bluegrass band The Wood Brothers. "I loved getting to sing this beautiful song my dad performed in The Band with my dear friends," Helm says.

Michael J Fox, 57, jams out on an electric guitar with JOAN JETT on stage at Parkinson's benefit for his foundation ... over 20 years after receiving his diagnosis
from: dailymail.co.uk

It's been over 20 years since Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, a disease which is known the cause severe tremors.

That didn't stop him from taking the stage with rock legend JOAN JETT at The Michael J. Fox Foundation's annual gala, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson's, in New York City.

A yearly star studded event, the gala raises millions of dollars in the quest to cure Parkinson's disease.

Michael, 57, looked dapper on the red carpet in a tailored suit and a blue and red striped silk tie.

The actor smiled alongside his wife of 30 years Tracy, 58, who glowed in a two-piece ensemble with a long black tulle skirt and a black and white embroidered floral sleeveless top.

And, the hosts of the evening got a ton of support during the night from their brood of beautiful children.

Twins Schuyler Fox and Aquinnah Fox, 23, Sam Fox, 29, and Esme Fox, 17, were dressed to impress as they sandwiched their parents on the red carpet before the soiree.

The Spin City star was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease in 1991.

JOAN JETT and Michael J. Fox perform on stage at A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's benefitting The Michael J. Fox Foundation at the Hilton New York on Nov. 10, 2018.

Michael J. Fox joined rocker JOAN JETT to perform at the A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's benefit gala in New York City on Saturday (Nov. 10). (Light of Day reunion, anyone?)

The duo played electric guitars to back up Steve Winwood's performance benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which strives to find a cure for Parkinson's disease. Fox himself was diagnosed with the chronic illness in the early ‘90s.

Shortly before the performance, Jett's Twitter account shared, "60,000 new Parkinson's cases will be diagnosed in the U.S. alone this year. Tonight Joan is at @MichaelJFoxOrg's #FoxGala raising money for important research to help cure the disease."

JOAN JETT arrives at Saint Laurent at the Palladium at the Hollywood Palladium on Feb. 10, 2016 in Los Angeles.

Jim Gaffigan, Willie Geist and John Mulaney took to the stage to perform comedy routines during the event. Attendees also included Katie Couric, Jennifer Grey, Clark Gregg and Fox's Back to the Future co-star Christopher Lloyd.

JOAN JETT's new 'Fresh Start' video featuring female candidates will make you so proud you voted
from: yahoo.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable

It's no accident that JOAN JETT's new video hit the internet on Election Day. The rocker's new clip features the faces of the record-breaking number of women on the ballot for Tuesday's midterm elections, including Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who would become the country's first black female governor if she wins. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who testified against Brett Kavanaugh during the Supreme Court confirmation process; feminist leader Gloria Steinem; California Sen. Kamala Harris; and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg are some of the other strong women whose pictures flash on the screen during the three-minute clip.

They're all accompanied by images of America through the years - a rotary phone, a schoolgirl sitting at her desk, members of the now-defunct All American Girls Professional Baseball League - along with some powerful quotes.

"Women will no longer be silenced no matter what party they are in. Period," one of them reads. That statement comes from former Fox News star Gretchen Carlson, who alleged in a July 2016 lawsuit that she was fired after rejecting sexual advances from her former boss, Roger Ailes. Carlson's complaint prompted other women to come forward with their own accusations against Ailes, and he stepped down from his commanding position as chairman of Fox News two weeks after Carlson's lawsuit was filed.

Jett's new song with the BLACKHEARTS plays in the background. "Sometimes I feel like I've been here before/ It's like the past knocking on my door/ Sometimes I feel like I'm standing still/ Or better yet I'm running up a hill," Jett sings with the BLACKHEARTS. Then the chorus: "I need a fresh start, let's go back to the top/ Rewind the tape and reset the clock/ This time, there's no turning back."

It's enough to send even the least inspired voter running to the polls in the minutes before they close, which is the entire point, of course.

Jett has a well-deserved reputation of her own as a barrier-breaking woman. In the '70s, she was a leader of the RUNAWAYS, a band made up of all teenage girls. Later, as Jett recounted in her 2015 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, she was turned down by 23 record labels headed up by men. She eventually founded her own BLACKHEART RECORDS, which continues to operate.

Video Premiere: JOAN JETT's 'Fresh Start'
from: blabbermouth.net

The official music video for "Fresh Start", a brand new song from JOAN JETT, can be seen below. The track is included in the Jett documentary "Bad Reputation", which was released in theaters and on demand on September 28.

The film, which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival, was directed by Kevin Kerslake and written by Joel Marcus.

"Bad Reputation" is described as "a look at the life of JOAN JETT, from her early years as the founder of THE RUNAWAYS and first meeting with [manager/producer] KENNY LAGUNA in 1980 to her enduring presence in pop culture as a rock 'n' roll pioneer."

"Fresh Start" deals with the problems that rock singers face as they reach a certain age. "Sometimes you need to say to yourself, 'Am I still enjoying what I'm doing? I need to find the fire again,'" Jett told Entertainment Weekly, where the track premiered. "Part of it was just thinking about rock in general. It's always been a young person's game, writing about sex, love and partying. As rock and rollers get older, what do they write about? I'm not sure there's an answer, but we're looking for it."

The "Bad Reputation" soundtrack album was released on September 28 via Legacy/Blackheart. The career-spanning soundtrack premieres "Fresh Start", alongside definitive live and studio performances by JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS as well as tracks featuring THE RUNAWAYS, BIKINI KILL, members of THE SEX PISTOLS, and more. The album includes "Androgynous", an unreleased track performed by Miley Cyrus, Laura Jane Grace and JOAN JETT.

JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS have created an unforgettable catalog of iconic recordings that can be heard around the world every day on radio as well in zeitgeist - capturing TV and motion picture soundtracks ranging from "Baby Mama", "Kick Ass", "Shrek" and "Easy A" to "Once Upon a Time", "Nashville", "CSI", "The Muppets", "True Blood", "Jessica Jones" and "The Sopranos" to Steven Spielberg's most recent science-fiction feature "Ready Player One". Jett's music has been used in a variety of commercials including campaigns for Target, Volkswagen, Hyundai and others.

An archetypal profoundly influential musician who's been called "the godmother of punk" and "the original Riot Grrrl," JOAN JETT blew open the gates of rock and continues to inspire new generations of cultural revolutionaries.

JOAN JETT: 'When I'm away I FaceTime my two cats'

The singer, 60, on the hardcore RUNAWAYS, coming to London in the 70s and hanging out on a houseboat with Sid and Nancy

Something hit me physically, hearing a guitar. When I reached pre-puberty, 11, 12, rock'n'roll started to break through on the radio, and my ears picked up where they didn't before. I started to notice songs like Bang a Gong by T Rex, or All Right Now by Free. I wanted to make those sounds. That was how it started.

The RUNAWAYS were hardcore, man. I had a clear vision: I wanted to form a girl rock'n'roll band. There's no reason girls can't do it. Girls just weren't supposed to because it wasn't "lady-like". Our first gig was at a house party. I don't really remember it. Once we were a five-piece line-up - me, Lita Ford, Cherie Currie, Micki Steele, Jackie Fox - everything felt more comfortable. Everything felt right.

Nobody gave me advice early on in life on how to navigate the industry. But my advice to people is to stay out of their own heads: don't live in the future, don't think about what just happened, don't get stuck in negative thought patterns. We all do it, but the quicker you can get out of it, the better you're going to be. Work hard and be authentic. Be genuine.

I grew up a tomboy. I was going to be what I wanted to be. It wasn't my parents who put any pressure on me to do feminine things, it was society that was saying, "You can't play guitar because you're a girl." Girls were playing violin and cello; so what they were saying was that we can't be like the Rolling Stones. That's who I wanted to be. Singing about sex, singing about rock'n'roll.

New Wave: Dare to Be Different, the story of influential radio station WLIR, is coming to DVD and digital Dec. 7 from MVD Entertainment Group.

U2, the Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Blondie, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, The Clash and The Cure were boosted by a small suburban radio station on Long Island, NY, WLIR. Looking At JOAN JETT's 'Bad Reputation' Documentary Through The Lense Of An Archivist
from: wuwm.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable

Hall of Fame rock musician JOAN JETT has been in the music scene for over 40 years. She got her start in the iconic punk band The RUNAWAYS in 1975. Since then, millions of fans have celebrated her songs, including "Bad Reputation" and "I Love Rock and Roll."

Those songs are also celebrated in a new documentary, Bad Reputation.

The film, directed by Kevin Kerslake, looks back on Jett’s career with interviews from Jett herself, her longtime manager KENNY LAGUNA, as well as other band members and musicians whom she's influenced.

The retrospective calls on hundreds of items of archived material from throughout Jett’s career. That’s where Caroline Jaecks plays a role. She's the Blackheart (Joan’s management company and record label) archivist for Bad Reputation, and she curated the company’s materials needed for the documentary.

Before the making of the documentary, Jaecks was working primarily in marketing for Jett - a job she originally declined. "I was like, 'I can't work for JOAN JETT - that's crazy! I was barely out of college ... I was still very new ... [But] I had a couple good mentors that encouraged me to go for it," she recalls.

Jaecks says her skills in video editing gave her the confidence to work with the "mountains of media" that covered over four decades of Jett's career.

"I was thinking, 'there must be some negatives or slides around here somewhere,' so I just tore the whole office apart. I found a very chaotic filing cabinet full of miscellaneous everything and I just went to work," she says. "There were slides and negatives and there was 16-millimeter film, there was every format of video you could imagine from 1980 on."

Jaecks notes that Jett was an inspiration to her growing up as she played in bands herself. Seeing Jett throughout the years as Jaecks sifted through performances, photoshoots and every day snapshots helped add a complete picture to Bad Reputation.

Nirvana Reveal Two New Members In Reunion Photoshoot
from: alternativenation.net

Brody Dalle has shared a new photo of herself and JOAN JETT posing for a group photo with Nirvana backstage at Cal Jam 2018 prior to their reunion performance. Dalle played bass on "All Apologies" while JOAN JETT served as singer. Dalle confirmed that she was officially a member of Nirvana for 24 hours.

Brody Dalle posted, "When I was in nirvana for 24hrs 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 @ohalfin 💋ðŸ"·ðŸ"¸."

Dalle is the lead singer of the band The Distillers, and is married to Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl played with Homme in QOTSA and Them Crooked Vultures. Ross Halfin did the Nirvana reunion photoshoot for the band at Cal Jam. He also shared the photo on Instagram.

Halfin wrote, "Nirvana reunion rehearsals, photographed at Cal Jam. Featuring JOAN JETT, Brody Dalle, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear."

JOAN JETT discussed how 'intense' Kurt Cobain's fans are in a new NME interview about her participation in the Nirvana reunion as a lead singer. JOAN JETT fronted Nirvana at the 2018 Cal Jam Festival and for two performances in New York in 2014 to celebrate the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

You took Kurt's place when Nirvana were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014 and again at Cal Jam.

"I was honoured and humbled to be asked for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (performance). It was so scary but, at the same time, how could you say no as a Nirvana fan? But I got through that okay. And then the other day the Foos were playing a concert and I guess they wanted to do a couple of Nirvana songs. Dave asked if I would come out and do a couple and I said 'sure'."

Would you be open to doing more shows with them?

"If they do (more shows) and they want me to be a part of it, I'd be honoured to. I feel blessed being asked when I was asked. It's very heavy though, because Kurt's fans are intense and it's a lot to take on. You just can never be sure if you're doing right, but you can only do the best you can do and if the band asks me, that's as close as I can maybe get to Kurt giving me the thumbs up."
