Kristen Stewart Does Her Own Singing In 'RUNAWAYS,' JOAN JETT Reveals 'She's an actress of weight, honesty, integrity and depth,' Jett tells MTV News at 'New Moon' premiere.

low resolution image Not Enlargeable LOS ANGELES -- It's no secret that Kristen Stewart has become very, very famous over the past year. It's also no secret that she takes her craft very seriously, respects a lot of artists who have come before her and holds a special place in her heart for JOAN JETT.

At Monday's (November 16) "New Moon" premiere, the legendary rocker was a special guest on the red carpet, walking just a few feet ahead of the A-list actress who has spent the past few months sharing her short, spiky haircut for "The RUNAWAYS," an upcoming film about Jett's all-girl '70s punk band. Stewart told us the film is going to aim for a Sundance premiere in January, and Jett revealed much more about the pair's friendship and whether KStew will be performing her own music in the flick.

MTV: So, Joan, are you a "Twilight" fan?
JOAN JETT: I'd obviously heard about the movie, but before she was cast as me, I hadn't seen it. Of course, when she was cast as me, I wanted to see the movie, and I've seen everything she's done. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was really entertaining, and I'm excited that she was cast as me in "The RUNAWAYS."

Kristen Stewart is playing JOAN JETT in The RUNAWAYS

low resolution image Not Enlargeable JUST when you thought another Twilight movie would leave her typecast as the unlucky-in-vampire-love teen Bella Swan, Kristen Stewart is preparing to smash that mould and start kicking some serious butt as pioneer female rock star JOAN JETT.

The RUNAWAYS, the story of the so-called "jailbait rock" band that launched Jett as a teenager in 1975, is due for release next year.

"It's the coolest opportunity I've ever been given," says 19-year-old Stewart, who also is starring in the drama K-11, directed by her Australian-born mother Jules Mann-Stewart.

"The reason rock 'n' roll is the way it is now and the reason girls are allowed to be not just outspoken but sexually aggressive is because The RUNAWAYS did it first.

"I hadn't heard of the band before I started production on The RUNAWAYS."

"Everybody knows JOAN JETT but nobody really remembers how she got her start."

A Blackheart Christmas

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Usually, I am not into the idea of Christmas albums...especially rock Christmas albums.

However, BLACKHEART RECORDS, JOAN JETT's record label, has proved me wrong. They are releasing an album that sounds so cool you'll want to embrace the holiday spirit.

A Blackheart Christmas is available on vinyl for the very first time. The album features holiday standards from Girl in a Coma, The Dollyrots and original tunes from Seattle punks The Cute Lepers and veteran Blackheart band The Vacancies. A modern take on Silent Night closes out the 11-track offering recorded with JOAN JETT on vocals and guitar.

Jett's BLACKHEART RECORDS, a company she started over 25 years ago, made her the first woman to start her own rock label.

Play this while decorating the tree!
