Ted Dooley
from: JOAN JETT & KENNY LAGUNA
Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Ted Dooley. Ted "Teddystar" passed away suddenly on April 1st. He was a staunch Democrat, worked hard in the educational field, being employed for the last 20 years as the DIrector of Boston Compact -- even worked on Robert Kennedy's campaign and was in the Olympic trials in 1968 for running.
His funeral began with "Light of Day" and ended with "Don't Surrender." It was mentioned a couple of times during the service that he loved and admired JOAN JETT and was indignant that she had not yet been admitted to the rock n' roll hall of fame.
Ted was 58 years old. He is survived by his wife Diane and their two children - Nora, who is a star soccer player and his son, Michael.

We gotta warn you: Picking a winner from this year’s crop of sexy vegetarian nominees is gonna be tough. JOAN JETT: Electric Warrior
from: Gibson.com
JOAN JETT is finishing up the final touches on her album "SINNER" in a New York studio, and her new song "Naked" is blaring over the speakers. It is classic JOAN JETT: buzz saw guitars, sing-along melodies, and that amazing voice—rough and soft, sweet and tough at the same time—lashing it all together and taking it to new heights with every chorus. "Every bit of trouble that I cherished / Every bit of truth that I let perish / Every little bit of me is naked," Jett howls, nearly pleads, and then sneers, "Yeah."
This is rock ‘n’ roll as it ought to be—raw and catchy and soulful. This is the music that has been JOAN JETT’s mission, gift, and lifeblood for 30 years, since she started the legendary RUNAWAYS when she was 15. Jett’s sound—succinctly described by longtime manager KENNY LAGUNA as a cross between "Yummy Yummy" and the Germs—is so prevalent these days it is easy to forget that she invented it. You don’t have to dig very deep below the surface of anyone from Green Day, the Donnas, and Bikini Kill to Avril Lavigne, Pink, and a slew of lesser bubblegum pop punk to find her. Every time a producer wants to sprinkle a little edge or credibility onto a manufactured starlet, from Ashlee Simpson to Kelly Osbourne, JOAN JETT’s sound is borrowed. The irony is not lost on her.
JOAN JETT has fought hard for her success. It was built in the face of hostile audiences, oblivious record executives, and entrenched resistance. She has held her ground onstage while spit on, hit with bottles and batteries, and cursed. Millions of records and about a dozen hit songs later, she takes it all with a grain of salt. She has earned some of the most loyal fans in the world and she has become a North Star for every girl who picks up a guitar. Besides, nothing is more rock ‘n’ roll than kicking down doors and doing what everyone says can’t be done. And as everybody knows, JOAN JETT loves rock ‘n’ roll. [more]

While most of us would believe ourselves connoisseurs of music, who can ever really resist a good tune and some gyratory beats?
It’s embarrassing, yes, but when you’re all alone in your bedroom and the door’s locked, that play button hovering inches away from your finger or mouse pointer, well, why not? You know you want to.

JOAN JETT to release new album in June
from: therockradio.com
It's been more than a few years since JOAN JETT had a new album out, but the wait ends June 6th when SINNER is released. It's her first new release since Pure And Simple came out in 1994, and it features songs about politics and current events alongside Jett's usual subject matter -- love, sex, and relationships. Jett said, "If anything, the lyrical content might be expanding. It's not all about falling in or out of love." Jett and her band the BLACKHEARTS will support the album by playing the alternative-rock-leaning Van's Warped Tour this summer, on top of their own shows.
In 2004, Jett released an album in Japan called Naked. A few of the songs from that record are also on SINNER, but they've been redone, making this her first all-new record in 12 years.
2006 is the 25th anniversary of her BLACKHEART RECORDS label, and the singer will reissue her catalogue this year to mark the milestone.

from: wausaudailyherald.com
by Patrick Thornton for the Wausau Daily Herald
STEVENS POINT -- After four years of staging Rock the Brewery concerts, the Stevens Point Brewery has learned a few things about entertaining.
Organizers have assembled a lineup of national music acts, made arrangements to feed everyone in attendance and will have 200 half-barrels of beer on hand.
"We also will have three times as many bathrooms then we did the first year," said Art Oksuita, the director of operations for the brewery. "We learned our lesson that year." [more]

Fitchburg officials give Warped Tour’s visit OK
from: telegram.com
by M. Elizabeth Roman
FITCHBURG— The Vans Warped Tour, which features dozens of punk and alternative-rock acts, has a history of tying up traffic for more than eight hours.
But local officials, looking ahead to the tour’s appearance in Fitchburg this summer, are not concerned. They say traffic woes resulting from previous tour stops in Brockton, Northampton and Foxboro were specific to those areas’ highway patterns.
"We put a lot of consideration regarding all aspects of the event," said Deputy Fire Chief Michael Spano said. "It is a long elaborate planning process that involves Fitchburg, Lunenburg and Leominster." [more]

A Warped Nassau show
from: newsday.com
by Rafer Guzman, Newsday Staff Writer
Good news about this summer's Vans Warped Tour: It won't be held on dust-ridden Randalls Island.
Instead, it will take place on the pavement-covered parking lot of Nassau Coliseum.
The Warped Tour, a traveling punk-rock festival now in its 12th year, has traditionally been held at Randalls, where a combination of sun-baked soil and gigantic mosh-pits usually results in sweaty, dirt-covered kids. This year, however, the tour is relocating to the relatively dust-free lots outside the Coliseum. A Warped Tour spokeswoman says renovations on the island are forcing the festival to move. [more]

RUNAWAY WITH JOAN JETT
AND THE BLACKHEARTS THIS SUMMER
from: Ken Phillips Publicity Group
Rock Icon to Release Album, Perform at Warped Tour & More
New York, NY (April 12, 2006) - Rock icon JOAN JETT, the original riot grrrl, is back. As co-founder of the all-girl, straight-up rock and roll group The RUNAWAYS, Joan cracked the door for female artists to rock just as hard as the boys. On June 6th, 2006 JOAN JETT will keep her fire burning with the release of SINNER on her own BLACKHEART RECORDS. As veterans of the punk scene, it's only natural that JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS will perform on The Vans Warped Tour 2006, as well as their own tour dates in support of the upcoming release. This summer Blackheart will also re-issue JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS' catalog, completely remastered by Greg Calbi with enhanced elements and bonus tracks.
It's been over a decade since the release of her last studio album, and on this upcoming record, Jett shows no sign of backing down from the chunky, kick-ass riffs, catchy hooks and forceful voice that made her a household name. Producing SINNER with her long time partner and singer-songwriter KENNY LAGUNA, the new album is the kind of music she's been known for since her hit "I Love Rock n' Roll" spent eight weeks at #1 on the Billboard charts. "Although this album still touches on themes of love, sex and relationships it also comments on the political and social climate in this country today," says Jett about the new CD.
SINNER kicks off with "Riddles," a melodic attack on doublespeak, "riddles," that pass as information from today's political "leaders." Riot grrrl and protégée of Miss Jett, Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill/ Le Tigre) lends her piercing vocals to "Watersign," "Tube Talkin'," and "Five," a song about the persistency of the tabloids. While many tracks on the disk are boldly sexual ("A.C.D.C.," "Fetish," and "Baby Blue"), contrary to its name, "Naked" is actually an introspective look at one's self, about going inside someone's thoughts and emotions and learning what makes people who they are. High-energy tunes feed Braves' fire
from: ajc.com
by Shane Harrison, Nick Marino, Sonia Murray
Everybody talks about the crack of the bat, but what about the boom of the bass? A ballgame's not a ballgame without music. So in honor of the Atlanta Braves, who played their home opener Monday and have games throughout the week, we present the nine greatest pop anthems for sports stadium airplay, with explanations for why each song works.
"Shout (Parts 1 and 2)," the Isley Brothers (1959)
Thanks to its infectious "little bit louder now" gimmick, this old-school R&B anthem — a track on the official "Jock Rock" compilation — is easy for crowds to sing.
"I Love Rock and Roll," JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS (1982)
The beat is big enough for fans to clap and stomp in time. And the repetitive hook is unavoidable — you learn the lyrics whether you want to or not. [more]

The retired colonel once headed the entertainment program for the Department of Defense.

CHEYENNE - Rod Hottle was an Air Force colonel who carried toilet paper for the stars.
That wasn't all he did, of course. He had that and about a dozen other jobs over the course of his career, including constructing buildings, overseeing the support of military bases and tending missiles.
He helped fly emergency command planes, which, in the event a nuclear attack annihilated the nation's Strategic Air Command, would be called on to direct the nation's counterattack. [more]

Punk rocker Jett still loves her rock 'n' roll

At 10 a.m., JOAN JETT is supposed to call. Me. On my phone.
This is THE JOAN JETT: Legendary singer, pioneering guitarist and rock 'n' roll icon.
A one-time member of the all-girl band The RUNAWAYS, best known for "Cherry Bomb," Jett later hit the top of the charts with her No. 1 song, "I Love Rock N Roll."
10:05 passes. Then 10:15. 10:20 ...
I figure the tough, bad-ass JOAN JETT is probably busy chewing glass for breakfast. Or skinning a cow for leather pants.
10:34 a.m. the phone rings.
It's JOAN JETT.
QUESTION: You rock so hard, I have to wonder who you listen to?
ANSWER: I still listen to a lot of stuff I grew up listening to. Once in a while something jumps in there. It varies. I grew up with a lot of David Bowie, T. Rex and stuff like that. [more]

Warped tour thrives even as music business slumps

NEW YORK (Reuters) - When only 800 kids showed up to see 10 bands for the first performance of the 1995 punk rock extravaganza the Warped Tour, founder Kevin Lyman's worst fears about his new venture seemed to be coming true.
The tour was a disaster, selling only 56,000 tickets that summer and landing a penniless Lyman back in his regular job of stage manager at a Los Angeles club.
But 11 years later, the punk and skateboarding tour employs more artists and crew than there were ticket buyers that first day. [more]
