Tomorrow Show, The - Get Ready To Rock With Tom Snyder! 'Punk & New Wave' Collection Coming!
from: tvshowsondvd.com
Late last year we first had the heads-up that The Tomorrow Show, starring Tom Snyder, would come to DVD sometime in 2005 from The Shout! Factory. It's been at the back of our mind these many months, but no further word of the release, which planned to focus on punk rock and new wave music, had come...until now, that is!
Shout! is telling us that The Tomorrow Show - Punk & New Wave will be a 3-DVD set that has finally gotten into shape for a release as soon as January 24, 2006. And even that's a date that may change, as we can imagine when we look at all the music licenses that must be involved with this material! Still, it will be well worth waiting for, especially if you're a fan of this type of music (I certainly am, and am drooling at the prospect of this). Here is the description provided by Shout!:
"The Tomorrow Show" with Tom Snyder began in 1973 as a late night 60 minute show following Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, then expanded to 90 minutes in 1980. As the punk and new wave music of the late 1970s and early '80s emerged, The Tomorrow Show welcomed many of the key figures in the genre - for interviews as well as live performances. This three disc set includes performances and interviews with Elvis Costello & The Attractions, The Ramones, Iggy Pop, The Jam, Plasmatics and Split Enz. The DVD set also includes interview segments with Paul Weller, JOAN JETT, Patti Smith, and an unforgettable appearance by John Lydon. [more]

Radio Infinity sees 'growth' in 'CBS-FM

ROCKY II: Rocky Allen returned to WPLJ (95.5 FM) yesterday afternoon, six years after he left, and broke out the old "As I was saying..." line.
Mainly, Allen broke out his old "Showgram" personality - friendly, easygoing, droll, a little jaded - and his old "Showgram" sidekick, Blain Ensley.
Since Allen left, Ensley has been a sports guy and a morning sidekick on WNEW (102.7 FM), never seeming quite as comfortable as he does with Allen. [more]

by Douglas Maher
Cleveland, Ohio (AHN) – The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.
J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame, located in Cleveland.
This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five. [more]

Marathons are insane, but a 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles), hoofed to the likes of JOAN JETT, might be palatable. The Nike Run Hit Wonder starts at 6 p.m. Sept. 24, and Joan and her BLACKHEARTS, the Donnas, Fountains of Wayne, Nina Sky, Z-Trip and the Aquabats will play their hits at stages set up throughout the course (perhaps making the event more draining for them than the participants). Runners start outside the Exposition Park Rose Garden, cruise through USC, and finish on the field of the L.A. Memorial Coliseum.

15,000 runners, one cool Jett
from: suntimes.com
by Susanna Homan
On Tuesday night, nearly 15,000 people in Grant Park sweated to the beats of JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, the Donnas, Fountains of Wayne, Chingy, Nina Sky and DJ Z-Trip.
They weren't dancing -- they were running in the second Nike Run Hit Wonder race, an event that blends live music with long-distance running. Along the race route, the bands played on six stages and kept the runners' legs pumping.
Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion Mia Hamm kicked off the first race, a 10K, at 8 p.m. "I will not be at the front," the soccer superstar warned the cheering crowd. "I'm retired." Hamm and her husband, Chicago Cubs shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, moved to Chicago at the end of last season, she says. "My husband and I feel so welcome." [more]

JOAN JETT takes a run with Nike
from: Midwest Beat Magazine
by Anita Maree Lande
Over 15,000 runners participated in the Nike-"Run Hit Wonder" 5k and 10k race in Grant Part on a warm summer night in Chicago. This unique and popular race will hit four cities this year with stages set up along the runners trails to hear live performances from different bands before, during, and after the race. This year Nike picked JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS as their exclusive headliners.
When the BLACKHEARTS took stage, the pumped-up crowd rocked and rolled all night, song after song. The band sprinted with crowd favorites like "Light of Day", "Bad Reputation", "Love is Pain", and "Crimson and Clover". They then hurdled over some newer songs like "Naked" and "Five" and finally went into top-speed with their biggest hits "I Love Rock -n- Roll" and "I Hate Myself for Loving for You".
JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS gave the thousands of runners who finished the race an additional hour of rock-aerobics including fist pumping in the air and jumping to the beat of each song. It seems like Nike's theme of their '05 event is right on when they say; Run Fast. Run Loud.

JOAN JETT played at Feather Falls Friday night to a nice-sized crowd. Playing some great hits like "Do You Want to Touch" and "I Love Rock-N-Roll" had the fans dancing in the isles. Joan took a moment to mention the hurricane victims before starting a couple of new songs off her up and coming CD such as "It's Gonna Take A Long Time," "Five," and "Naked". Joan ended the evening with "Crimson and Clover" and "I Hate Myself For Loving You".

New Mexico's Eyeliners share new style with El Paso
from: elpasotimes.com
by Leonard Martinez
Austin, Seattle and Los Angeles are the cities that typically come to mind when thinking of music scenes.
The Eyeliners would like to add Albuquerque to that list.
"Areas like (Albuquerque) tend to have a lot of great musicians," Eyeliners singer Laura Baca said in a telephone interview from Providence, R.I., where the band was performing. "Cities like that are isolated, so there are not as many things to do so you get immersed in the music. It's really great for kids to have stuff to do. Music is a great thing." [more]
