Burnoff rockin'

Best known for her seminal hard-rocking hit "I Love Rock ’n’ Roll," JOAN JETT has yet to soften her attack two decades later.

from: Koch Records

The release of tribute albums has become quite a marketing spectacle, gathering seemingly unrelated artists to pay respect to acommon bond, but there was one band that never truly received its proper veneration: Long Island’s TWISTED SISTER. Although many tribute albums are devoted to bands that sold outrageous numbers of records, had vast strings of hitsand provided influence to certain aspects of music, Twisted Sister is most deserving, as they paved the way for a number of revolutions in rock culture! Finally, recognizing the band’s importance, KOCH Records, in cooperation with production/distribution company Shooting Gallery, Inc., is pleased to release ‘Twisted Forever’on August 14th!

The album features many of today’s hottest artists (ranging from Lit to Nine Days), rock icons in their own right (including Sebastian Bach & JOAN JETT), masters of streetwise aggression (such asSevendust and Vision Of Disorder), as well as leaders of underground extreme movements (like Cradle Of Filth and Nashville Pussy) – an unlikely motley crew of talent to be inspired by the same band! But as Nine Days vocalist John Hampson testifies: "Twisted Sister has actually been a part of my musical world since I was 7 years old…" Even Public Enemy’s notorious frontman Chuck D shows his respect: "Angst Anthem music Dee and the boys personify, and obviously some of that rebellion rubbed off on fellow Long Islanders Public Enemy in the game of rap."

Twisted Sister founding member and guitarist JJ French applauds the effort: "All of the artists on this album felt that we made some impact on them. I can honestly say that I am humbled at the work of all of them."

Joan Cameo in Film

BY HOOK OR BY CROOK is a buddy film that chronicles three weeks in the life of a handsome, gender-bending, small-town butch with a nagging messiah-complex. Emotionally defeated since the death of her father, SHY heads to the big city to sink herself into a "life of crime". She is quickly distracted by VALENTINE, a deliriously expressive, wise-acre adoptee on a misguided search for her birthmother. The two freaky grifters join forces and learn the true meaning of "poise under pressure" in this visually stunning and wonderfully acted, anti-authoritarian tale of friendship, trust and redemption.

A true tragic-comedy, BY HOOK OR BY CROOK is like a female version of MIDNIGHT COWBOY—hilarious, poignant and brave, bringing grace and humor to its socially insightful subjects. It is also the first of its kind: It’s a movie about butches by butches and gives voice to a powerful new creative sensibility.

Shot at over 64 locations by indie vet D.P. Ann T. Rossetti (Go Fish) and directed with lush detail by first-time directors—the artist/rockstar duo Dodge and Howard—BY HOOK OR BY CROOK opens a carnival peephole into a world almost never before captured in a narrative film: the lives of real, working class butches (and the ladies who love them). A lucid piece of cinema verité with fearless moments of magic realism, this film is as rowdy as it is tender in its groundbreaking gender exploration and treatment of human fallibility, resilience and dignity. Sketches of mental illness and money troubles are made fresh with the rough and touching combination of rusty hot-rod glamour and unselfconscious vulnerability.

Britney Loves Rock 'N Roll
from: MTV News

In case you're not convinced that Britney Spears really does love rock and roll, the pop princess, who covered the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" on her last album, has put another dime in the jukebox and come up with an even more telling rock classic for her next one.

Spears has recorded JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS' 1981 hit "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" with hitmaker Rodney Jerkins for a scene in her upcoming movie, "What Are Friends For," as well as for her still-untitled third album, which a Jive Records spokesperson said is tentatively due November 6.

Jerkins, who produced Spears' Stones cover for last year's Oops! ... I Did It Again, said Monday (July 16) that their version of the JOAN JETT hit (which itself was a cover of a song by the Arrows) relies on the original melody but has a hip-hop element. Spears will perform it in a bar scene in the movie.

Rocker Jett still soaring
from: Las Vegas Sun

"I don't give a damn about my reputation," JOAN JETT sang on her 1981 landmark punk/hard rock album "Bad Reputation."

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Jett, 40, is older, wise and, perhaps, more concerned with her public perception than ever before.

Jett and her longtime band, the BLACKHEARTS, are playing shows throughout the summer and perform Saturday at the House of Blues. Jett said the notion that she's as tough as her leather-clad look and hard-rocking music is not entirely accurate.
