One of the most eagerly awaited package tours of the summer has begun. On Thursday (July 14), three of the most recent inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- Heart, Cheap Trick and JOAN JETT -- began the "Rock Hall Three for All" tour at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Mich.
Heart's 14-song set saw them eschew some of their biggest hits -- "Magic Man," "Never" and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You," for example, were nowhere to be found -- in favor of four songs from their new album, Beautiful Broken, "Two", "Sweet Darlin'," "I Jump" and the title track. After closing the main portion with "Barracuda," they performed two Led Zeppelin songs, "Immigrant Song" and "Misty Mountain Hop."
JOAN JETT wasted little time in getting started, opening with "Bad Reputation" and delivering songs from all phases of her career, from the RUNAWAYS ("Cherry Bomb" and "You Drive Me Wild") to glam-influenced rocker ("I Love Rock 'n' Roll," "Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah)") to pop metal ("I Hate Myself for Loving You"). Her encore was a cover of Sly & the Family Stone's "Everyday People."
Cheap Trick's opening slot also used the opportunity to promote their fine new effort, Bang, Zoom, Crazy … Hello, but only in the form of one song, "Heart on the Line." The rest of the set was filled with staples like "Hello There," "I Want You to Want Me," "Dream Police" and "Surrender." As usual, bassist Tom Petersson had his turn in the spotlight with a cover of the Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting for the Man."
The setlist from all three can be found below, with video of Heart ("Barracuda") above and JOAN JETT ("Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah)") and Cheap Trick ("Hello There") below. The "Rock Hall Three for All" tour runs through Sept. 23, and you can see all the dates at Heart's website.
