JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS concert at Hudson Gardens
Rating: 5 stars
The wait is over. The one show that many of us wanted to see did not disappoint in the least. Sunday night, The Hudson Gardens And Event Center welcomed with open arms to their remodeled outdoor venue, the new inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS. For a bit, it looked like the weather might turn a little wet, but it did not stop the fans from filling the venue to capacity. The rocker who is originally from Philadelphia and now resides in New York gave it her all and did not leave anything behind.
JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS performed for over an hour-and-a-half- and prior to the show greeted some 60 fans with a very personable meet and greet. After the meet and greet was completed, she invited the photographer and another man to join her in a photo op as well saying "You two have worked this crowd and you deserve some recognition too. And with that, I would be honored to have my photo taken with you two. This is the kind of lady JOAN JETT is. She is personable, kind, generous and above all, she can pack a venue and for good reason. There is nothing like some good old rock 'n' roll.
JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS performed many of the old songs, 'I Love Rock N' Roll', 'Crimson And Clover', Bad Reputation, I Hate Myself For Loving You, Do You Wanna Touch Me, and she performed some newer ones as well. You Drive Me Wild, Activity Grrl, Stylistically, the new songs fit in with the rest of her catalog of great rock. And she is always smiling while on stage and just truly loving her job and having a blast on stage. And the fans feed of this. They were rocking the entire night.
When speaking to many fans waiting in line and meeting many once they had gotten into the venue and found their spots, the energy was high, the smiles were many and the same though was on everyone's mind. "This is the show I have waited for since the schedule was put out". The Examiner had a chance to speak with some of the fans. Mike Medina from Highlands Ranch said, "I have been in love with this lady for a long time. She can sing, she can play the guitar and best of all Ð she can rock." Toni Gold was too excited and all she could say is "I cannot believe I am here." This was a birthday gift from a few of her friends who did not tell her where they were going. They went to lunch, had a little birthday celebration, and then as they put it, "it was time to get the night rocking".
From the very young (5 years old) to the older (no age limit), JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS had a great show for everyone. Even the Director for The Hudson Gardens And Event Center said this is one of the largest crowds he has seen at a show. As the show wrapped upped and JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS had left the venue, the line to purchase any memorabilia was long. At one point, it looked to be about 300 fans waiting in line to purchase anything they could.
JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS had rocked and the memories will remain. And the lady proved that there are still great people in Rock music who enjoy treating their fans with respect. From the Examiner and The Hudson Gardens And Event Center, from all the fans, we would all like to say Thank You to a wonderful lady and her band for giving a great performance.
Next up for The Hudson Gardens And Event Center is two back-to-back nights with Colorado's own Firefall and the incredible Super Diamond. This is a great way to spend your Fourth of July with family, friends and talented artists. If you have not gotten your tickets yet, please visit hudsongardens.org and treat your family and friends to some music, fireworks and great times. |
