JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS Concert Review - Hudson Gardens (Littleton)

Before last night, I'd only seen JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS live in concert once before when she opened for Def Leppard in 2000. Vocalist Joe Elliott went on record saying Jett was the best opening act Leppard ever had. In the last 15 years, JOAN JETT has risen from opening act to executive producer for the 2010 film The RUNAWAYS, which chronicled The RUNAWAYS' career, to 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
Jett (real name Joan Marie Larkin) delivered a well-balanced set to a huge crowd at Littleton's Hudson Gardens. Opening with "Bad Reputation" and "Cherry Bomb," The BLACKHEARTS came out swinging with a ferocious punk attitude. Colorado fans quickly got their first vocal workout of the evening singing "Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah" over and over again during Gary Glitter's glam classic "Do You Wanna Touch Me".
Next up was "Light Of Day," the memorable title track from a forgettable 1987 movie starring Jett and Michael J. Fox. The chorus always reminded me a little of "On The Dark Side" off the Eddie And The Cruisers soundtrack (another box office flop.)
After this string of hits, Jett dipped down into some deeper tracks including "Love Is Pain" from I Love Rock 'N' Roll and "Fake Friends," the lead track off Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth.
Joan's biggest hit "I Love Rock And Roll" predictably brought the fans to their feet, but I give Jett props for inserting several straight ahead rockers from her most recent studio album, 2013's Unvarnished.
"Crimson And Clover" (yet another cover) has always been a personal favorite since MTV played the hell out the music video in its first year on the air. (Jett's 1981 album I Love Rock 'N' Roll is now has a "33 1/3" Anniversary edition available now featuring live bonus tracks.)
Jett isn't super chatty on stage, but she lets the music do the talking. However, she did recount how "Make it Back" is her reflection on the spirit she saw in the people after superstorm Sandy. The evening ended with a nice cover of "Everyday People" by Sly & The Family Stone.
