Gov. Nikki Haley meets her hero JOAN JETT

Of the three people Gov. Nikki Haley has said she would like sit down with, two -- former Gov. Carroll Campbell and former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher -- have passed away.
She got to meet the third on Monday -- rocker JOAN JETT.
Haley and her husband, Michael, lunched with Jett at the Peacock Alley restaurant in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York where the Republican Governors Association is meeting.
Jett heard the governor was a fan of hers and agreed to meet, Haley campaign spokesman Rob Godfrey said. Plus, it turns out the singer of "I Love Rock 'n Roll" is a political junkie.
They pair discussed their careers and challenges, Godfrey said.
"Strength, talent, passion, and courage...it doesn't get any cooler than her," Haley wrote in a Facebook post.
The governor will quote lyrics from Jett on her Facebook page. Haley told Marie Claire in 2011: "When I am going through the toughest times, I'll blast her music. She was one of the first female rockers when female rockers weren't accepted. When no one would sign her, she created her own label. And when she accomplished everything she walked away! I mean, how cool is that?" |
