Here's more information on the Uline Warehouse's main attractions this year:
. Rick Springfield, 10 p.m. June 25: Springfield will forever be remembered for his 1980s hit "Jessie's Girl," but he has quite the extensive résumé, from former "General Hospital" actor to subject of a feature-length documentary, to fiction author, of the new novel "Magnificent Vibration."
. Kansas, 10 p.m. June 26: The wayward sons have been carrying on for 40 years with their Midwestern-style progressive rock.
. ZZ Ward, 10 p.m. June 27: After playing earlier slots for both Summerfest and the Harley-Davidson 110th anniversary celebration last year, the blues-soul "Put the Gun Down" singer graduates to headliner status.
. Saints of Valory, 8 p.m. June 27: Many a musician has started a band with dreams of touring the world. But the members of the wide-eyed alt-rock act Saints of Valory already hail from around the world â€" specifically, Brazil, France and Texas.
. Michael McDonald, 10 p.m. June 28: Possessing one of the most distinctive baritones in the business, the blue-eyed soul singer, formerly with the Doobie Brothers, doesn't exactly stand for trendiness, but he earned cool points last year parodying himself in a funny skit with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake.
. John Hiatt and the Combo, 3 p.m. June 28: Revered singer-songwriter Hiatt has been covered by an impressive list of other revered musicians â€" Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt and Iggy Pop among them â€" but he's also made a name for himself for his own renditions of his performances and tireless work ethic; his latest album "Mystic Pinball" is studio album No. 21.
. David Nail, 10 p.m. June 29: Nail constructs his country catalog with modern Nashville trends, consequently scoring hit singles with "Let It Rain," "Red Light" and last year's "Whatever She's Got."
. Yonder Mountain String Band, 9:45 p.m. July 1: The progressive bluegrass band â€" formed not in the mountains but the flat terrain of Urbana, Ill. â€" recently bid adieu to mandolin player Jeff Austin, but a special guest will be taking his place at Summerfest.
. Railroad Earth, 7 p.m. July 1: Building a fan base across 13 years with a progressive bluegrass style that can touch on rock, jazz and other genres, Railroad Earth self-released its latest album "Last of the Outlaws" in January.
. JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, 10 p.m. July 2: Inspiring countless female rockers to follow in her footsteps (and male rockers too), Jett with the BLACKHEARTS came back with 2013's "Unvarnished," her first studio album seven years, to show she's still got the chops.
. Berlin featuring Terri Nunn, 3 p.m. July 2: Immortalized, and admirably mocked, for the "Top Gun" love song "Take My Breath Away," the band emerged early in the 21st century with "Voyeur," its first album in 16 years; two more have followed since, including last year's "Animal."
. SoMo, 10 p.m. July 3: The randy R&B singer broke out on YouTube covering Chris Brown and a medley of songs from Drake's "Take Care" â€" the same day that album dropped â€" before achieving success for his own tunes with this year's top 10-cracking, self-titled, major label debut album.
. The Chainsmokers, 10 p.m. July 4: Sick of hashtags and the selfie? Electronic dance music duo the Chainsmokers skewered social media-driven vapidness with the satirical hit "#Selfie" â€" and became trendy itself.
. George Thorogood & the Destroyers, 10 p.m. July 5: Remember that scene in "Wayne's World" when Wayne and Garth had nothing noteworthy to say about Delaware? They forgot about Delaware-born George Thorogood and his foot-tapping boogie rock swagger â€" most famously displayed in the overplayed, but still effective, "Bad to the Bone."
. Cole Swindell, 9:30 p.m. July 6: Swindell is benefiting greatly from the Luke Bryan bump, his former frat brother at Georgia Southern University turned country superstar. After writing six songs on Bryan's "Spring Break...Here to Party," Swindell's pursuing his own solo career, scoring a hit with "Chillin' It."
. Jacob Martin Band, 8 p.m. July 6: Could any musical group in American history have a more boring name than the Jacob Martin Band? No matter; the new country act should have plenty of people cheering its name with its country-radio-ready tunes. |
