NEW YORK -- Cesar Galindo never forgets his roots. For the debut of his Czar by Cesar Galindo fall collection, the Houston-raised fashion designer looked to the Bayou City for some help.
Nine models from the Page Parkes agency headed to the Big Apple from H-Town to appear in Galindo's show, courtesy of Parkes. Also along for the ride was Bambi Lynn, whose company, Blinc by Bambi Lynn, produced the show with Gregory Triana of Blue Cashew Production. Lynn was accompanied by her daughter, Madison Ramsay, to get an up-close view of the fashion week activities.
"I've known Page since I was 14," Galindo explained. "She has always supported me. I thought it would be cool to have some Texas representatives."
Models Anna Robertson, Taylor Hilton, Kasey Costgrove, Marlee Menedez, Emily Matheny, Sarah Tierney, Shelby Bullard, Charlotte Stevens and Taylor May -- along with around 12 New York-based models -- showcased the collection of active sportswear made for the woman on the move in a new space, called The Hub, at the Hudson Hotel.
"Women have to live their lives and plan their days accordingly," Galindo said. "It's got to work for the office and a cocktail party."
Galindo's collection ranges from demure sheaths in Jackson Pollack-like prints to tight laser-cut leather slacks with a shoulder-baring satin halter vest and black bolero jacket. Standouts included a metallic blue dress with silver jacquard dots and a cocktail dress in shimmery shades of purple. Galindo topped some prints with full-length hooded sweaters and jackets for a more urban look.
"A hoodie can be worn for everything -- from a gala to yoga class," he said.
Some of the edgier looks got a nod of approval from rocker JOAN JETT, who saw at least five pieces she coveted and ordered them on the spot. (Galindo has previously designed outfits for Jett's concert tour.)
His response: "OK darling, whatever you want." |
