JOAN JETT's Orioles' love letter (and other celeb O's fans)

We all know singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer JOAN JETT loves Rock and Roll; she's proclaimed that plenty of times since her breakout hit in 1982.
She also has proclaimed her love for the Orioles for years. It's hard to forget when she donned an Orioles ÒJettÓ jersey in the front row at Yankee Stadium in the 1980s.
Well, now the 54-year-old rocker who grew up in Rockville -- yes, very appropriate -- wanted this generation of Orioles to know how much she's enjoying their resurgence.
Jett sent a letter this week to the Orioles that was posted on the bulletin board in the home clubhouse. She wrote about how her dad took her to Memorial Stadium on Aug. 13, 1969, which was the date of Jim Palmer's no-hitter against the Oakland A's.
She wrote that she's been taking her iPad on stage and hiding it next to her amp so she can check the Orioles' scores this year.
Jett closed the letter by telling the Orioles to keep on rocking. She also sent a box of swag including CDs and T-shirts.
Truthfully, most of these Orioles weren't born when Jett was on top of the music world, but surely the support was much appreciated.
She's not the only celebrity trumpeting the Orioles right now. Actor Josh Charles, a Baltimore native, was on Dan Patrick's radio show (which is also a national TV simulcast) on Monday wearing his Orioles' hat. Charles, the nephew of long-time local sports personality Stan ÒThe FanÓ Charles, also answered some Orioles trivia questions.

I didn't see it, but I heard he needs a refresher course on O's history (Really, Josh, you didn't know Brady Anderson held the club record for homers in a season? That one's a gimme.)
Also, Benji Madden, lead guitarist for the rock band Good Charlotte and a native of Waldorf, continues to tweet up a storm in support of his Orioles. Madden, his twin brother, lead singer Joel, and Joel's wife, TV personality Nicole Richie, have become friends with O's center fielder Adam Jones.
It got me thinking about some of the other celebrity Orioles' fans out there. There are some obvious ones with Baltimore connections like writer/directors/producers John Waters, Barry Levinson and David Simon. Game show host Pat Sajak has a home in Severna Park and always stops in to say hello during spring training.
Actor Billy Bob Thornton grew up in Little Rock a huge Brooks Robinson -- and consequently Orioles -- fan. He has an autographed Robinson glove on a shelf next to his Oscar.
Actor/comedian Robert Wuhl also has been at spring training games in the past sporting an Orioles' hat or windbreaker.
And there's actor Ed Norton, who has sported an Orioles hat and took batting practice with the team years ago.
Arguably the funniest Orioles fan is Elaine Benes, Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character in Seinfeld. Supposedly from Towson, Elaine, like Jett, has no problem showing her support for the Orioles in New York.
I don't know if Jada Pinkett Smith is an Orioles fan, but she might be considering she grew up in Baltimore during the Cal and Eddie years.
Obviously, several Ravens have been major supporters of the Orioles recently.
Not sure if I missed any others -- but undoubtedly readers out there can add to the list.
