JOAN JETT coming to Silver Springs
from: ocala.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Rock queen JOAN JETT and local-boy-makes-good Easton Corbin are among the performers scheduled at the Silver Springs attraction in the first half of 2013.

JOAN JETT will play at Silver Springs in 2013.

The theme park announced the bookings in an email sent Thursday, and on its website. Also announced Thursday were Josh Turner and Jamey Johnson.

Corbin, a native of Trenton in nearby Gilchrist County, is scheduled for Feb. 23; Johnson arrives a month later on March 23; Jett rocks the springs April 13; and it's Turner's turn on June 15. None have performed at the park before.

Three acts in 2013 will be nighttime shows, "which is new to the series," according to Brooks Jordan, marketing director for the theme park. None of these four acts will be among the nighttime shows, he added.

"We're looking at about eight or nine concerts this year," Jordan said. "We're bringing in some pretty high-caliber talent, people who've never played at Silver Springs before."

And some fans can't wait.

"We're really excited about the whole series," said Mr. Bob of the Mr. Bob and Kathy Morning Show on Ocala's K-Country 93.7 FM.

He said Thursday he is particularly eager to again see Corbin, one of the freshest faces in country in recent years.

Corbin is the first man in 17 years to see his first two singles -- "A Little More Country Than That" and "Roll With It" -- hit No. 1 on the country charts. In 2010, he won breakthrough artist honors from the American Country Awards. His second album, "All Over the Road," was released 11 days ago; it debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Country Albums.

"He's such a great artist," Mr. Bob said. "We're very proud of him. And our listeners just love him -- and so do we."

Turner, Mr. Bob said, played the station's Acoustic Concert about eight years ago. "He opened with ÔLong Black Train' and everybody loved it so much that he was asked to play it a second time," he said.

"Long Black Train" was certified gold only 12 weeks after its release. Grammy Award-nominee Johnson is something of a rebel. "He's kind of an outlaw in the sense of Waylon Jennings," Mr. Bob said.

He also is a popular songwriter, writing for George Strait, Trace Adkins, Joe Nichols, Jessie James and James Otto, who headlined at Silver Springs earlier this year.

Jett is a classic rocker who has been hitting the charts since the late 1970s. With nine Top 40 singles, she is probably best known for the Ô80s anthem "I Love Rock Ôn' Roll" -- Billboard's 27th biggest single of all time.

Jett, the owner of eight platinum and gold albums, often is referred to as a "Queen of Rock Ôn' Roll."

"Whooooo-ee," Mr. Bob said. "JOAN JETT can still set the place on fire; she'll get the glass-bottom boats a'rockin'."
