"Rock & roll is a lifestyle"
from: clarin.com
JOAN JETT fulfilled the dream of the kid rock: use your sexual identity paradigm, its principles of liberty as a flag, your group as a means, her label as a resource, their struggle against social injustice as a guideline. The rock as a verb. Today is a lady rocker 53 which serves us by phone from somewhere in the U.S. States.
You started your career, your adolescence and finally mediating ther tour brings you to South America. What keeps you on the road? The rock! I enjoy playing my music, songwriting, touring, the life of rock & roll itself. Ther coming to Argentina finally, that although I have high expectations, I do not know what to expect. I know your audience, know it is very demonstrative, I have said and that increases the excitement for me. We will offer a show without much paraphernalia giant group: will our issues, from the time of The RUNAWAYS, my solo hits and everything we've done with The BLACKHEARTS, of course. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and accept invited us happy.
You're considered one of the best guitarists in the world by the magazine "Rolling Stone".
I am proud and am honored to be part of that, though these things are a bit arbitrary. Yes I would like to consider in the near future more women, of course. That is, there are great guitarists and musicians in general.
Your hit "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is not a proper subject but The Arrows, is unfair to both parties? I think not, that song represents me, is mine, I love rock 'n' roll, could not say more than that at the time, appropriated to me and the audience would identify with it. Not my own, but talk about me. I like to sing, talk about the life of the rock, I am a rock singer and a rock song. I am myself. The important thing to preserve is to be genuine.
How did you find the version of Britney Spears? I have not heard. Neither I ever heard! I find it rare for a pop artist versione a rock song. I knew I would ask about it and think it was like not to have a good opinion about it, I did not listen. Britney Spears did not know you love rock 'n' roll! (Laughter) You lived in England after the separation of your band the RUNAWAYS in the eighties, and have worked with Steve Jones and Paul Cook of Sex Pistols. What is your vision of those days, what was passing in those turbulent times of post punk rock and an England altered? Cook and Jones met in the United States, they turned with Sex Pistols at the time. I began my solo career and wanted to record with them. Honestly and I asked them what they thought the material: it worked and now. I think they must have liked, otherwise they had not! England was truly revolt, but a little calmer after the seventies where everything had exploded. Punk rock was the result of that, so I went there, was very different to what is living in the United States. I grew up musically and personally. I met and worked with many artists of the time. It was a good choice to have gone.
Without having taken part directly from the feminist movement of the '90s rock called "Riot Grrrl", has been from a precursor of women in rock to an abortion rights activist, liberators and emancipatory. With the girl band L7 made a theme of yours, "Cherry Bomb" in the '90s.
It was the mid-nineties, yes it was good that. The rock is up sex if it wants and that can scare. If you are a woman, if I'm the one who is in charge of the stage, the interpretation of the song, I'm the parent. The man that can please him so much as not, but what's there, that's rock. Women express ourselves and fight alike. The Riot Grrrl are brave women who have not remained silent, not pop artists created to sell or consume or sexism. Someone might say that today, should there be a band like The RUNAWAYS, could be a commercial invention, and there would be kicking to show that not fret. Things have not become simpler, I'm afraid ... It remains a power struggle. Women take our instruments and we say what we say, but there are men who are frightened or despise her. And others, men of rock, which are in them, know what they say. It's about being free to be the rock the way for this, to live freely and sexuality row for equal rights. The rock is a genre of music: it's a lifestyle.
