JOAN JETT can see similarities with biopic alter ego Kristen Stewart as she advises Twilight star on dealing with fame

Rocker JOAN JETT yesterday revealed how she is helping Twilight star Kristen Stewart deal with fame.
The 20-year-old actress plays girl-power pioneer Joan in new bio-pic The RUNAWAYS, out on Friday.
Although Joan admits Kristen's fame is far more extreme than she experienced in her days in the girl band, she says they share many similarities.
And she is confident the young star can handle the pressure.
"Look what she's got to deal with," said Joan, 51. "You can be a successful actor and still be able to go out and buy a loaf of bread but there's nothing that Kristen can do at the moment.
"What I meant to her is more through example than me saying, 'No, you should do this, or no, you should do that'.
"I don't deal with the people she deals with and the questions that they ask her and all that stuff, so I can only say, I can only do what I do.
"And if she learns something from the way I handle my own stuff, it's just to be in control."
Kristen cut her hair into Joan's shaggy style for the film, which charts the short-lived but explosive career of The RUNAWAYS.
Dakota Fanning plays the group's singer Cherie Currie and Michael Shannon plays shady manager Kim Fowley.
Joan, who has been dubbed the godmother of punk, was an executive producer on the film and was always on hand to help Kristen.
She says: "I told her, 'I don't want you thinking, what would Joan do? I want you to just do it, because I guarantee you, whatever choice you make, it's going to be what I would have done.
"Just have fun with it, have fun being it, and you can get away with any bad behaviour, blaming it on me."
The film has lashings of rock, drugs and even a snog between Joan and Cherie but ultimately it's about girl power.
Kristen's Joan tells Cherie she could have said no to a soft-porn photo shoot as the group try to battle against a chauvinistic rock industry.
Joan describes watching herself being played by someone else as "a surreal experience".
But the rocker, who has always refused to comment about her sexuality, says she had no problem about people seeing the girl-on-girl kiss.
She said: "It's like stuff that happens all the time, every day, and it's not a big deal."
Joan got her first guitar at the age of 13. She was living in a suburb of Los Angeles when she and drummer Sandy West formed The RUNAWAYS in 1975.
The band, which lasted until 1977, struggled to be taken seriously because of their overtly sexual image.
But Joan inspired a generation of girls who went on to write and play their own music.
She had a solo hit with I Love Rock 'n' Roll in 1979 and was one of the first female artists to set up her own recording label, BLACKHEART RECORDS.
In 2003, she was No87 in Rolling Stone's respected countdown of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
For Joan, these kind of accolades, like the biopic, are things to be proud of.
