She's your Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Cherry Bomb!

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Every few years, a veteran of the rock and roll rat race enjoys a rebirth.

JOAN JETT might be on the verge of one of those comebacks right now thanks to her relentless drive as a performer, and a new film biography that's premiering during this year's Sundance Film Festival.

The movie is called The RUNAWAYS, named after the band Jett played with as a Los Angeles teenager back in the '70s. The movie has had a lot of advance buzz already because the young Jett is played by Kristen Stewart, star of the Twilight movies. At the very least, that should be enough to draw scores of teenage girls to watch the beginnings of one of modern rock's most significant female figures.

More impressive to me is Jett's personal story after the RUNAWAYS broke up. She's one of the first stars to start her own record label as a means of getting her music to the masses, starting BLACKHEART RECORDS when she was barely out of her teens. She's a political activist who's played both anti-war rallies and done tours in the Middle East for U.S. troops. And when Seattle punk rocker Mia Zapata was murdered in the '90s, Jett took her place in the band The Gits to help raise money to find Zapata's killer.

And Jett isn't one to rest on her laurels or live off her past. She tours relentlessly, delivering classic songs like "I Love Rock and Roll" and "Bad Reputation."

Saturday night, Jett is headlining a show with her band the BLACKHEARTS at Park City's Harry O's. Tickets are available through Smith's Tix outlets. Tickets are now in the insane $80 to $100 range.

Friday you can catch two of the stars of Whose Line Is It Anyway? headlining at Abravanel Hall, as Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood take the stage. Excellent pop-rocker Brendon Benson headlines Friday at Urban Lounge, while Wu-Tang Clan member The Genius headlines Urban Lounge Saturday. And comedian Harland Williams headlines Friday and Saturday at Wiseguys Comedy Cafe in West Valley City.
