JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS - SINNER
from: enigmaonline.com
I remember when the original Rock 105 hit the air years and years ago. They went from an easy-listening station to a rock station, much in the vein of WKRP in Cincinnati. When they changed formats, they played I Love Rock N Roll" by JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS for 24 hours straight. I used to love that song – until then.
The former singer for the RUNAWAYS Jett split form her bandmates to go in a more "punk" direction with the BLACKHEARTS. During the ‘80s she cluttered the rock charts with a number of songs such as the one mentioned above as well as "I Hate Myself For Loving You", and "Do You Wanna Touch Me", just to name a few.
The somewhat butch rocker fell off the planet in the ‘90s and remained a footnote or trivia answer for many… until now.
Regrouped with the BLACKHEARTS and sporting her raven tresses again (she was blonde briefly and sported a crew cut for a little while), Jett has released her most relevant work in 20 years.
Always cutting edge,, and fast-paced, Jett manages to keep up the pace after almost 30 year in the business without sounding like a rehash or someone trying to relive their youth. While I used to scoff at JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, I am now paying attention again.
The somewhat androgynous singer keeps us somewhat guessing in the theme-oriented album. There are many sexually charged sons such as "SINNER", "Naked" and "Everyone Knows", to the more suggestive A.C.D.C., which yes, addresses that issue, as well as the song, "Androgynous". "Baby Blue" is a more traditional Jett Bic lighter song, which I wish I had avoided.
SINNER is definitely worth a spin. The album wins back old fans, casual listeners, and invites the younger set to take part and realize you’re never too old to rock and roll.
