Mega Bash may mean mega prizes

GALLIPOLIS — If you are willing to shell out $100 for a ticket to the Mega Bash fund-raiser next month, you have a chance to walk away with your share of $1 million in cash and prizes, including a 2006 Corvette Convertible, a Harley Davidson Fatboy and $100,000 in cash.
Although it may sound too good to be true, the Mega Bash is indeed real and is planned for May 26, and May 27.
The Children’s Center of Ohio is sponsoring the event at the Gallia County Junior Fairgrounds. Tickets are $100 each.
The weekend will kick off May 26 with a free performance — for the public, not just for ticket holders — by JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS. Also that night, a 2006 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Screaming Eagle will be raffled.
Only those who buy $100 tickets for Saturday’s Bash can buy $10 raffle tickets for that giveaway. There will also be a motorcycle contest with prizes given for best chopper, best custom bike and best traditional bike, among others.
On Saturday, major prize giveaways will begin at noon and will continue every five minutes until 7 p.m., when the grand prize of $100,000 will be given away. Even if someone wins a prize, their name will be put back in the hat to be eligible for more prizes. You do not have to be present to win. Free food will be served.
Robert Boggs, one of the organizers of the event, said the Bash is going to be a great day for people in Southern Ohio. Similar events have been held throughout the region and have been successful.
"This is really going to bring in a lot of people in. Not just people from the local counties, but nationwide. It’s good for the economy and everybody locally." Boggs said.
He said the event is also important because it supports the Children’s Center of Ohio. The center operates two 24-hour residential treatment facilities — the boys’ in Patriot and the girls’ in Kitts Hill — that care for boys and girls in a variety of crisis situations.
The children are sent to the centers by the courts and social service agencies to receive treatment for problems in their home or legal issues resulting from troubled pasts.
""This is going to be our (Children’s Center) fund-raiser. We’ve never done anything of this magnitude. But, we don’t want to go out into the community begging all the time and we thought this was a great option," Boggs said.
The money raised through the Bash will go toward building a new boys’ home and expansion projects at the girls’ home, among other things that a trimmed-down state budget cannot provide funding for, Boggs said.
A minimum of 8,000 tickets must be sold for the event to be held, Boggs said. There will be a maximum of 10,000 sold.
Tickets can be purchased online or locally at Allyn’s Jewelers.
