Guitarist Keith Mack of Rehoboth Beach will join his former national rock band, Scandal, for an eight-date mini-tour of the East Coast which will kick off Saturday in Hartford, Conn.
Speaking by telephone from New York City on Monday, where the musicians were gathering for a rehearsal, Mack said he was excited about the tour. "It's going to be fun," he said. "It's been a little hectic. We've been e-mailing each other song ideas for the set list."
Original band members participating include Mack, vocalist Patty Smyth, guitarist Zach Smith, keyboardist Benji King and drummer Tommy Price. Kasim Sulton will fill in for the group's late bassist, Ivan Elias.
The musicians are taking time off from their various personal endeavours for the tour. "Zach lives in San Francisco," Mack said. "Tommy is usually busy playing with JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS. It isn't easy getting everyone together."
The pop group broke up in the mid-1980s after charting with an eponymous EP which went gold and a followup album, "the Warrior," which went platinum. Hit singles included "Goodbye to You," "Love's Got a Line," "the Warrior," "Hands Tied" and "Beat of a Heart."
In August of last year, VH1 convinced the group to reconvene in Los Angeles for an episode of the "Bands Reunited" reality show. In November, Mack and Smyth performed an acoustic version of her solo hit, "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough," on the former television talk show hosted by Smyth's husband, John McEnroe.
Mack said the group's booking agent tried to land a Delaware or Philadelphia show for Saturday, Feb. 12, but ended up booking the Trump Marina in Atlantic City, N.J. "I'm sure I'll be seeing a lot of my friends there," Mack said.
