Rock & Roll Singer JOAN JETT to Visit Service Members at Fort Hood on USO Stateside Tour

WASHINGTON, May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The USO is sending USO tour veteran JOAN JETT to visit troops stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, May 2-4. During the visit, Jett will dine with the troops, sign autographs and tour the base. This is the fifth in the USO's newly revised stateside tour program and Jett's sixth USO tour. Jett entertained troops on a USO tour to Afghanistan in 2002.
JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS have been performing for America's service men and women since 1982. In 1976, she began her career with the first all- girl hard rock band, The RUNAWAYS. Jett later became the first female artist to own a major record label, BLACKHEART RECORDS. She has been labeled as one of the most influential rock 'n' roll women of all time.
In 1982, Jett and the BLACKHEARTS created one of the biggest hits, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," plus eleven smash singles including "Crimson and Clover" and "Everyday People." The band reunited in 1999 to record the album "Fetish." In 2001, the group released "Unfinished Business," which features a collection of sports-related songs.
The USO Celebrity Entertainment Program continues to be a morale booster for America's service men and women, bringing a touch of home through music, laughter and personal outreach. In addition, nearly 12,000 volunteers dedicate their time and talents to serving military personnel and their families at 121 locations around the world.
