Kenny on downloading, the USA CD, and Pete Townshend

To the "gang":
The furor over the downloading is upsetting to Joan and I.
People do not know what they are talking about.
The person who said downloading and trading is part of the community in his wife's high school, should also be aware that shop lifting and drug taking is similarly a part of life in the high school community. This does not make it right or legal.
The fellow who thinks stealing is OK because the CD prices are 20 dollars is way off as well. The CD's do not cost one dollar. With shipping, royalties, artwork, retail profit, and other expenses, the record companies may only make under 2 dollars on an 18 dollar CD, and with their profit they have to pay for developing new music, salaries for staff, and all other kinds of overhead expenses.
The person who said no one has been successfully prosecuted for bootlegging off the Internet should also be aware that the record business is now trying to prosecute people who engage in this practice. With new law expected to be defined over the next few years. This will happen.
We acknowledge that it is the fault of the industry that we did not educate the public in time. However, it is absolutely true that the problems that big artists like Metallica are addressing are going to hurt the little bands and the record stores far more than it will hurt established touring bands.
There is a mind set amongst the record collecting public that Metallica and Joan are trying to change for the good of everybody.
For the fellow who's wife runs a high school, I would not expect her to teach for free. Why should artists not get paid for selling their music simply because it is so easy to steal it?
Over the long haul, new music is suffering.
For those wondering about the CD known by them as "USA" should be aware that this CD is a publishing sampler and includes several songs that were not available on blackheart. this is not for sale; rather it was created to present our songs worldwide for TV, movies, and for other artists to record them.
That is why the Alice cooper worldwide hit "HOUSE OF FIRE (written by Joan)," as well as "I NEED SOMEONE" (Belmonts), and "MAKE BELIEVE" (Wind {Tony Orlando & KENNY LAGUNA}) were included, even though Joan is not singing on these.
And finally, a word on Pete Townsend.
Pete is innocent. He is wonderful, caring man, who has proven to be rock and roll's most important songwriter. He was singled out by police in England to take the heat off of more than 50 British police who were caught messing with porno for all the wrong reasons. This is a terrible injustice.
