ROCK LEGEND JOAN JETT INKS WORLDWIDE ADMINISTRATION DEAL WITH BMG SONGS
from: BMG Music Publishing

Song Catalogue Includes Major Hits "I Hate Myself for Loving You," "Little Liar," "Don't Surrender," "Bad Reputation" and "Fake Friends"

LOS ANGELES January 28, 2002 - Scott Francis, President of BMG Songs, has announced the signing of multiplatinum rocker JOAN JETT to a long-term, worldwide administrative agreement. The deal includes Jett's catalogue of hit songs from her years with the BLACKHEARTS, her successful solo career and future releases.

Under the deal, BMG Songs will administer Jett's catalogue, which includes songs written by both Jett and her producer/co-writer KENNY LAGUNA, and has non-exclusive rights to license masters for synchronization. Just a few of the Jett/Laguna-penned hits include 1981's "Bad Reputation" (from Jett's breakthrough debut album) and the JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS classics "Victim of Circumstance," "(I'm Gonna) Run Away" and "Love Is Pain" (all from 1982's multiplatinum I Love Rock & Roll). The catalogue also includes the 1989 top 10 smash "I Hate Myself For Loving You" and "Little Liar" (both from Jett's Up Your Alley); the 1991 top 10 alternative rock hit "Backlash," co-written by Jett with Paul Westerberg; as well as Alice Cooper's international hit "House of Fire," co-written by Jett and Desmond Child. Included in this venture are several personal favorites which Jett and Laguna have acquired in their catalogue, such as "I Need Someone," a hit by the Belmonts (of Dion and the Belmonts fame), and "Make Believe," a hit for Tony Orlando.

"I am both proud and honored that BMG Songs will be taking care of the JOAN JETT catalogue," said Francis. "Joan is a rock legend who is looked up to by many of today's young bands. Her songs and performance style are instantly recognizable --she stands in rock history as the best female leader of a rock band."

According to KENNY LAGUNA, he and Jett chose BMG Songs as their new home after meeting Francis, Ron Broitman (Vice President, Film and TV) and their team. "We were impressed with their good character, enthusiasm and their solid knowledge of all the nuances of this particular part of the industry," he said. "They understand what the needs of songwriters are, both artistically and commercially. Besides, Scott's a pretty cool guy which you have to be to work with Joan, who is eternally cool."

Laguna was a member of Tommy James and the Shondells and wrote hit songs for them as well as the Ohio Express, Tony Orlando, Jackie DeShannon, Bill Medley, Darlene Love and many others. His production of "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow is a punk rock standard. Laguna has worked with Bikini Kill, L-7, Bad Religion, Barbra Streisand and many groups from pop to punk. His film endeavors run the gamut from the classic work of Nora Ephron to the raucous cult classic, Tank Girl.

Jett-- with her signature loud and aggressive but stripped down vocal, guitar and writing style-- has been one of rock music's most popular artists through a career that spans more than two decades. While still in her early teens, Jett, often called "the girl Elvis," founded the seminal all-girl rock group, The RUNAWAYS, whose hits such as "Cherry Bomb" made them an international sensation. Jett hooked up with producer/songwriter KENNY LAGUNA and formed her next group, JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, in the early 1980s. JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS have sold millions of albums, been a staple in the top 10 charts and claim the number 28 song of all time, "I Love Rock n' Roll." The title track to her 1982 multiplatinum album was number one on the Billboard charts for eight weeks on their own independent Blackheart label, after 23 major record labels refused to give Jett a deal. The team of Jett/Laguna had major hits with covers of "Crimson and Clover," "Everyday People" and "Do You Wanna Touch Me?" "Light of Day," which Bruce Springsteen wrote for Jett, became a number one rock track and a top 10 for the year on MTV in 1987.

Jett has also made the successful leap into acting. Her film credits include the starring role in Paul Schrader's Light of Day, with Michael J. Fox, and she appeared in Boogie Boy, an independent film by Pulp Fiction alums Craig Hamann and Roger Avary. Jett's "bad guy" credits include playing an evil immortal in the Highlander television series and playing a contract killer on Walker, Texas Ranger, where she reached a pinnacle in action film when she got to fight a martial-arts battle to the death with the legendary Chuck Norris. In 2001, Jett made her Broadway debut in the original cast of The Rocky Horror Show. She will return to the big screen this fall in the movie The Sweet Life, for which KENNY LAGUNA produced and wrote the title track. Her 1981 breakthrough hit "Bad Reputation" was recently heard in the blockbuster film Shrek and is the theme song for the popular syndicated TV show Freaks and Geeks.

Currently in the studio with Laguna, Jett continues to be a top live attraction and has been dedicated to touring U.S. military bases overseas for 20 years, as has Laguna since the Vietnam era. Since the September 11th terrorist attacks, both Jett and Laguna have increased their performances for the troops. She also recorded the team anthem for the WNBA's New York Liberty at their request and sang the National Anthem in Camden Yards at her friend Cal Ripken's request the night he tied Lou Gehrig's record. Jett also recorded the theme songs for two of ESPN's X-Games.

JOAN JETT is the first female rock recording artist to own her own record label, BLACKHEART RECORDS, and has set a standard for women in the industry.

The world's fourth largest music publisher, BMG Music Publishing is a unit of BMG.
