Jett-Propelled Broadway Debut Joan adds edge to "Rocky Horror" revival
from: NY Daily News
by Emily Jenkins
"Don't dream it — be it."
The main theme of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" was something that really resonated with JOAN JETT.
"You can create the life that you want," she says of the movie's message. "Not just talk about, but do it."
Now, Jett, 40, is making her Broadway debut as Columbia in director Christopher Ashley's revival of "The Rocky Horror Show," proving that she has taken the message to heart: She's a rock icon reinventing herself as a Broadway star. "I am having a great time," she enthuses. "Every day, I look forward to going to work."
Jett was in high school when she first saw the cult film adapted from Richard O'Brien's campy Gothic rock musical.
"It was something I hadn't really ever experienced before," Jett says. "The outrageousness of everything, the whole range of sexuality. All those things really tapped into my teenage head at the time when I was figuring out who I was."
