JETT AS COLUMBIA
from: Variety

Tyro Broadway producer Jordan Roth got creative with his cast for the revival of "The Rocky Horror Show" with a rocker, a talker and a gender-bender twist in his update of Richard O'Brien's musical take on the Frankenstein legend.

In a show that features the escapades of a cross-dressing mad scientist, Roth goes a step further with an example of female drag. He's cast Lea DeLaria ("On the Town") to play Eddie/Dr. Scott, roles originated by rock 'n' roller Meatloaf in the musical's London premiere and the 1975 Gotham production.

The latest "Rocky" continues the rock 'n' roll tradition as rocker JOAN JETT will make her Broadway debut as Columbia. And, in another novel piece of casting, Dick Cavett will perform narrator duties. The former talkshow host had appeared on Broadway previously, in "Otherwise Engaged" and "Into the Woods."

Other castings include Tom Hewitt as Frank 'n' Furter; Daphne Rubin-Vegas as Magenta; Alice Ripley as Janet; Jarrod Emick as Brad and Raul Esparza as Riff Raff.

Christopher Ashley will direct.

"Rocky" is set to open at the Circle in the Square on Nov. 13.

"The Rocky Horror Show" revival marks Roth's second legit production. He is also producer of "The Donkey Show," which continues in its Off Broadway run at the Club El Flamingo.
