United Artists' futuristic action film Tank Girl chronicles the adventures of a hard-edged renegade heroine with an irreverent sense of humor, based on the popular cult comic book series. Backing the action is an allstar lineup of modern rock artists with new songs by Hole, Bjork, Veruca Salt, Belly, Magnificent Bastards featuring Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, Joan Jett and Paul Westerberg and more, collected here on the original motion picture soundtrack.
Lori Petty (A League Of Their Own, Point Break) stars as Tank Girl, the smart, sexy tank driving protagonist; Naomi Watts plays her airborne but down-to-earth pal Jet Girl. Together, they travel through a post-apocalyptic future, getting themselves into and out of one jam after another.
Courtney Love served as executive music coordinator of the film and soundtrack. The album is a virtual "best-of" collection of alternative artists. Standout tracks include brand new material by Hole ("Drown Soda," live at the BBC), Bjork ("Army Of Me"), Veruca Salt ("Aurora"), Belly ("Thief"), Joan Jett and Paul Westerberg ("Let's Do It"), as well as new songs by Magnificent Bastards (featuring Scott Weiland), Ice-T and Bush. Devo's "Girl U Want" is a new recording of that classic.
