She loves rock 'n' roll - and fans love her
from: pamplinmedia.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable In case you were wondering, JOAN JETT really does love rock 'n' roll.

After more than four decades in the business of creating great music, the legendary rock singer is still taking no prisoners as she adds to her "bad reputation."

When JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS touch down at Chinook Winds Casino & Resort in Lincoln City for a pair of concerts March 3 and 4, the audience will get Jett's heart, but it can't touch her soul.

That's nestled deep in a rock 'n' roll career that began with the all-female RUNAWAYS at age 16 in 1975, hit gold after she formed the BLACKHEARTS in 1979 and continues to strike a chord with fans everywhere who like a little attitude with their rock music.

The BLACKHEARTS' biggest hit, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in 1982 and remains an anthem played in movies and at sporting events throughout the country. Their version of Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover" (a personal favorite) and "Do You Want to Touch Me?" both reached the top 20 the same year. In 1988, along came "I Hate Myself for Loving You," which climbed as high as No. 8 on the charts.

Jett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015; "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" made it into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016.

The best thing about all of this? Jett, 58, isn't slowing down for anybody.

Jett made time for her fans who read the Portland Tribune, calling while driving from Houston to Lake Charles, Louisiana, for the BLACKHEARTS' first road show of the year:

JOAN JETT - still the high priestess of the church of rock
from: nashuatelegraph.com

My Thoughts

There are those rare rock artists never seem to go out of vogue. They are those acts whose appeal can't be dimmed with the passing of time. JOAN JETT is such a rock performer.

There are legions of music lovers everywhere for whom the screaming guitars and pounding drums of ear-splitting butt-kicking, rock 'n' roll are an anthem. Those who have seen punk rocker extraordinaire JOAN JETT in concert - as she tears into her signature song, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," or my personal favorite, "I Hate Myself for Loving You" - know that she's an absolute monster vocalist.

At 58, the sassy leather- clad queen of punk rock shows no signs of making any effort to tame the monster in her. She is still an emotional cyclone on stage, twisting through power chords and letting loose with growling screams as she prowls the stage like an alley cat.

At its core, rock 'n' roll, and punk rock in particular, is a rebellious genre, and there's nobody in the business who does punk rock better than Jett. This is why we pay the money to see her amplify that cocky sneering lip, the bad attitude and "I don't care" rebel stage persona. We all love that firebrand music that leaves our ears ringing long after the show is over.

Is there anyone among us who, the minute they hear that intoxicating lead-in to "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," doesn't become instantly infused from it, and who isn't immediately up on their feet singing along and playing air guitar like they're on stage at Madison Square Garden? I don't think so. I know this to be true because I count myself as one of those fantasy rockers whose stage is the living room. For all rock star wannabes everywhere, Jett is indeed a collective guilty pleasure.

2017 TOPPS First Pitch Features Stars and An Incognito Wrigley Field Hot Dog Vendor
from: beckett.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Some collectors aren't fans of celebrities and non-baseball people appearing in their packs because they're not baseball. The 2017 Topps First Pitch inserts find a way to branch the sport and pop culture.

Entering it's third year, the 2017 Topps First Pitch checklist features a mix of actors, singers, athletes from other areas and even a Miss USA.

A total of 20 First Pitch cards are available in 2017 Topps Series 1 Baseball. They're not all that tough to pull at 1:8 hobby packs (they're not exclusives and are in hobby jumbo and retail as well).

Among the bigger names in the set are Star Trek legend, William Shatner, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk and rock pioneer, JOAN JETT. There's also Stephen Colbert who attempted to go undercover as a hot dog vendor at Wrigley Field last September.

Blondie announce new album ft. Sia, Charli XCX, JOAN JETT, and more
from: ew.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Blondie are back with their 11th studio album, Pollinator, due out May 5 via BMG. Their first album since 2014's Ghosts of Download, this collection will feature collaborations with major hitmakers like Sia, Dev Hynes, and Charli XCX, as well as stars like JOAN JETT, Laurie Anderson, The Strokes' Nick Valensi, the Smiths' Johnny Marr, Bob's Burgers' John Roberts, The Gregory Brothers, and Adam Johnston.

But Blondie's core songwriters, Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, are still at the center of the band's sound, heard first on the new single, "Fun," featuring TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek. Heavy on percussion and synth, the track was helmed, like the rest of the album, by Grammy-winning producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney Sigur Ros), and recorded at New York's The Magic Shop studio.

"Quoting Emma Goldman, 'If I can't dance I don't want to be part of your revolution,'" Stein told Pitchfork when premiering the track. "In these trying times we need some fun." Harry added, "We're very serious about fun."

Per a release, Dev Hynes' track "Long Time" is a song about "racing down the Bowery," while the Sia-penned "Best Day Ever" is a collaboration with Nick Valensi. Charli XCX wrote both "Gravity" and the hidden tune "Tonight," which is only found on the CD version of the album and also features Laurie Anderson. Johnny Marr worked on a song called "My Monster" and Adam Johnston's track "Fragments" was first heard "as a sample on the Canadian indie artist's YouTube movie reviews." JOAN JETT lends her vocals to "Doom or Destiny," written by Harry and Stein, and John Roberts' voice is heard on "Love Level." The Gregory Brothers appear on "When I Gave Up On You."
