How Mary Tyler Moore & Her 'Groundbreaking' Show Inspired JOAN JETT
from: billboard.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Legendary rocker JOAN JETT mourned the loss of TV icon Mary Tyler Moore, who died Wednesday (Jan. 25) at age 80.

In 1996, JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS released a cover of the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song "Love is All Around," which reached No. 8 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.

In a statement to Billboard on Wednesday, Jett said, "I grew up watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I was inspired that women were shown as being equal to men and it had an influence on me as I became a musician. The show was groundbreaking, important and funny. I will miss Mary Tyler Moore."

from: newyorkupstate.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable WATERLOO, N.Y. -- del Lago Resort & Casino announced five more major music acts coming to its new entertainment venue, The Vine, this spring.

Boyz II Men, JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, Night Ranger, Jana Kramer and Colt Ford will perform at the resort and casino in March and April.

March 3: Boyz II Men
March 11: JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS
April 15: Night Ranger
April 21: Jana Kramer
April 28: Colt Ford
Vocal quartet Boyz II Men brought R&B harmonies to mainstream pop in the 1990s. Jana Kramer adds a sweet dose of country to the music schedule, but anyone who grew up with the WB might recognize her first as Alex Dupre from the TV series "One Tree Hill."

Two acts were snapped up right from the 2014 NYS Fair lineup.

Leather-clad rock legend JOAN JETT last drew 18,000 fans to Chevy Court, where she performed hits like "Bad Reputation" and "Cherry Bomb." Hard rock outfit Night Ranger emerged in the early 1980s with hits like "Sister Christian" and "(You Can Still) Rock In America."

Former golfer Colt Ford emerges as the starkest genre-bender of the crew, as a country artist who pulls influences from hip-hop and alt-rock. He's known best for the 2008 hit "Dirt Road Anthem," which Jason Aldean later covered.

Ticket sale dates and prices will appear on dellagoresort.com/entertainment.

Last week, del Lago Resort & Casino announced that Dustin Lynch will perform March 9 at The Vine. Casino management will announce another country music concert tomorrow.

They talked with JOAN JETT, Bowie guitarist -- Carlos Alomar, Sigma Studios Owner -- Joe Tarsia and one of the 'Sigma Kids' about their interactions with the Thin White Duke.

John had the opportunity to talk to his old friend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee JOAN JETT about her experience with David Bowie. She talked about her personal experience with David, what playing a show where Bowie and Freddie Mercury were in the crowd felt like, and what Diamond Dogs meant to her (and even recited the intro)!

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame- Induct These Women: The RUNAWAYS
from: inspirer.life

Before JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS or Lita Ford, there was The RUNAWAYS. This all-female band deftly navigated the punk scene in the latter half of the 1970's. Formed by Jett and drummer Sandy West, The RUNAWAYS became an integral piece of the punk scene in the US and abroad. The RUNAWAYS drew their influence from rock and roll royalty including David Bowie, Gene Simmons, and Suzie Quatro.

Following the release of their self-titled debut record, The RUNAWAYS quickly began touring with some of rock and roll's biggest names. They opened for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Cheap Trick to name just a few. In 1977, after the release of their second record, The RUNAWAYS launched their own world tour. They toured the US and Europe, and when they arrived in Japan The RUNAWAYS were in for a huge surprise.

JOAN JETT has described the reception at the airport in Japan as resembling Beatlemania. Throngs of eager fans waited for them on their arrival. The RUNAWAYS were number four on the music charts in Japan at the time and they played a series of sold out shows in the country.

Their firm footing in the punk rock scene and their global influence make The RUNAWAYS an obvious choice for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite their short tenure, The RUNAWAYS made an indelible mark on rock and roll. They were quickly accepted as an inevitable piece of the punk music landscape, mingling with punk icons like The Ramones and The Sex Pistols.

JOAN JETT is already quite definitely a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee as a member of JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS. The induction invited controversy when it was announced that Miley Cyrus would do the honors but the world quickly learned that Cyrus is a lifelong fan who has covered Jett's songs and even performed duets with the rock legend on more than one occasion. Cyrus's impassioned speech painted a picture of just how influential Jett has been throughout the course of her career. But just because she was inducted already does not mean The RUNAWAYS are off the list.

Thing is, there are a lot of rock and rollers who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than once. Ringo Starr was inducted as a member of the Beatles and for his work as a solo artist. Michael Jackson was honored twice and so were Jeff Beck, Neil Young, and Peter Gabriel. The list of multiple inductees goes on and on. Eric Clapton has been inducted three times, once as a member of Cream, a second time as a member of The Yardbirds, and finally as a solo artist.

What's missing from this list is a single female rock artist. No one would dream of taking away the well-deserved honors bestowed on these multiple inductees whose names read as a who's who of the history of rock and roll, but it can be easily argued that JOAN JETT is as integral to the fabric of rock as any of these men. Her name is absolutely synonymous with rock and roll. The RUNAWAYS helped solidify the female presence in punk rock and for this, they are long overdue for their day in the hall of fame.

JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS HEADING BACK ON THE ROAD
from: livewiretricities.com
low resolution image Not Enlargeable JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS are heading back on the road this month. Jett, who spent part of 2016 on the road with Heart and Cheap Trick as part of "The Rock Hall Three For All" tour, kicks off the New Year on January 21st in Charles Town, West Virginia at Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races. As it stands now, Jett and the band have dates on the books through September 23rd when they hit Tulsa, Oklahoma's Paradise Cove at Margaritaville. JOAN JETT & The Heartbreakers are expected to be rolling out their full itinerary in the coming months.

Although revered for both their classic '80s hits and ongoing pedal to the metal live shows, JOAN JETT revealed that back in the day, she and the BLACKHEARTS faced nothing but rejection upon trying to land a record deal: ["We wanted to be on a major, we really wanted to be on a major label. We sent four or five songs; 'Bad Reputation,' I Love Rock N' Roll,' 'Crimson And Clover,' 'Do You Wanna Touch Me. . .' -- maybe one other one, all of which turned out to be Top 10 hits. We got 23 rejection letters from all the majors and the minors: 'You guys need a song search. . . . Maybe she should lose the guitar. . .' So, you gotta say to yourself, 'Either they can't hear hits, or they're not listening to the tapes' -- but whatever it is, they completely ignored it."]
