JOAN JETT "Make Believe" 1980 *(Video Master)
from: youtube.com

JOAN JETT's first post RUNAWAYS LP, Originally titled "JOAN JETT" was initially released on the German Label Ariola, and in the US on BLACKHEART RECORDS in 1980. In 1981 the album was retitled "BAD REPUTATION" and released on Boardwalk Records.

Recording for this LP began in March of 1979 at Chappell Studios in England. Former Sex Pistols, Steve Jones and Paul Cook produced the sessions. Of the three songs that were recorded, "You Don't Own Me" and "Don't Abuse Me" were included on the album. An early version of "I Love Rock and Roll" was also recorded and appeared as the B-side of the "You Don't Own Me" single released in Holland in 1979. "I Love Rock and Roll" would later be re-recorded with Jett's band THE BLACKHEARTS in June of 1981, and would spend eight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Charts!

The next sessions were recorded at Fidelity Recorders in Studio City, CA in August of 1979, this is the same studio where Jett had recorded the first RUNAWAYS Album. Seven songs were recorded and produced by KENNY LAGUNA and Ritchie Cordell. Of the seven songs, only "You Don't Know what You've Got" made it on to the LP. "What Can I Do for You" was also recorded, these tracks were to have been used in The RUNAWAYS Movie "Were Alll Crazy Now" which never finished Production (all seven songs later appeared on the JOAN JETT Compilation CD "1979").

Later that year, in December of 1979 Jett, Laguna and Cordell were recording again at The Who's Ramport Studios in England. Seven more songs were cut ranging from Gary Glitter's "Doing Alright with the Boys" and "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "Sam the Sham" and The Pharaoh's "Wooly Bully" to the Jett/Laguna original "Jezebel", all of which made the LP, as well as Tommy James and the Shondells "Hanky Panky", which was only on European pressings of the LP, and The Who's "Call me Lightning" which was the non-LP B-side of the Single "Make Believe". Some additional recoding was also done on "You Don't Know What You've Got" from Fidelity's August 1979 session.

In January 1980, recording continued with the Jett/Laguna/Cordell original "Let Me Go", Wind's "Make Believe" and "Too Bad on Your Birthday". The Lp was completed in March of 1980 with the recording of the Laguna/Cordell/Jett Composition "Bad Reputation", which would eventually become the title for the LP.

Paul McCartney, Selena Gomez, Pearl Jam Demand Gun Control Reform from Congress
from: radio.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Almost 200 musicians have come together to sign an open letter requesting Congress take action about gun control. The letter, spearheaded by Billboard and Everytown for Gun Safety (a movement to end gun violence), cites the mass shooting in Orlando as well as the death of Christina Grimmie hours before as reasons why music spaces are no longer safe. And they want the government to do something about it.

"Music always has been celebrated communally, on dancefloors and at concert halls," the letter states. "But this life-affirming ritual, like so many other daily experiencesâ€"going to school or church or workâ€"now is threatened, because of gun violence in this country."

It continues, "The one thing that connects the recent tragedies in Orlando is that it is far too easy for dangerous people to get their hands on guns."

The signees request that Congress instill two measures to restrict how guns are sold and purchased: 1) Require a background check on all gun sales, and 2) Block suspected terrorists from being able to purchase a weapon.

JOAN JETT was the first to sign the letter with Lady Gaga following suit shortly after. As of now, the signatures range across all ages and genres. Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Britney Spears, Pearl Jam, Iggy Pop, Selena Gomez, Kid Cudi, L.A. Reid, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, Dixie Chick's Natalie Maines, Questlove, Sara Bareilles, Tony Bennett and many more have all added their signatures to the letter.

The letter comes at a key time. Yesterday (June 22), Democrats took over the House floor by staging a sit-in, stating they wouldn't leave until Congress voted on stricter gun control. Their protest began at noon and didn't end until 3:00 a.m. Thursday (June 23) morning, when House Speaker Paul Ryan adjourned the session after forcing through a vote on a major spending bill, according to The New York Times.

ROCK OF VEGAS ANCHORS FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCE'S ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM
from: dailyitem.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable As a giant of rock churned out "Bad Reputation" to open her Fremont Street Experience concert, a tiny female performer clung to the metal barricades separating the VIPs from the general-admission crowd. She's known as Lil Miss Firefly, a 27-inch tall, sideshow burlesque performer and occasional Fremont Street busker, there to see JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS.

They come in all shapes and sizes at FSE. This was true the night of May 28, when a boisterous crowd of 12,000 turned out for the opening of the free-admission Rock of Vegas series. The title reminds, maybe not too coincidentally, of the Rock of Ages stage show at the Rio. Like that production, Rock of Vegas is primarily a celebration of throwback rock. The performance by Jett leads to the June 11 performance by 3 Doors Down. On July 2 it's Cherry Poppin' Daddies, followed by Robby Krieger of The Doors on July 23, Vertical Horizon on August 6, Melissa Etheridge on August 20 and Smash Mouth on Sept. 3.

The launch of the series was an unqualified success, as the turnout for Jett's show approached the numbers for FSE's most successful free shows (Cheap Trick last year and REO Speedwagon in 2014), which included UFC president Dana White, The D co-owner Derek Stevens, former FSE president Jeff Victor (who in November joined Stevens' operations as VP of operations) and FSE marketing director Tom Bruny.

Bruny has been instrumental in developing a robust entertainment program on Fremont Street since taking his post in 2008. He's managed to find the right mix of proven acts okay with playing a free-admission concert outside during the Vegas summer. "It's a challenge," he says, "but when you see the results, you do know that there is no better value in town than to see these types of acts for free."

Eight years ago, live performances were limited to Third Street Stage on the weekends. Today, three stages are active every night of the week. Brody Dolyniuk and his Zeppelin USA tribute band played to about 2,000 fans on May 29. Yellow Brick Roadâ€"founded by Dolyniuk and the city's longest-running classic-rock bandâ€"performs Thursdays on the First Street Stage from 8-11 p.m., with Zowie Bowie hitting the stage at Third Street from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Good-time bands like Spandex Nation (a hair-metal tribute), Cash Presley (classic rock) and '80s Station are all in rotation. And, of course, the Viva Vision LED show runs hourly each night on the FSE canopy.

This heavy measure of free entertainment is made possible through funding from Fremont Street's "member" hotels, operating like a sort of homeowners' association: the Fremont, California, Main Street Station, Golden Nugget, Four Queens, The D, Golden Gate and Binion's all pay regular dues to finance the overall operation of FSE. "We work together as a marketing organization for this destination," Bruny says. "FSE is really a sub-destination for Las Vegas, where we have 151,000 rooms, but less than five percent are Downtown. We're trying to get some of the 95 percent staying elsewhere to enjoy entertainment along the FSE corridor."

One who found such entertainment was Lil Miss Firefly, who by the end of Jett's set had somehow navigated her way to the front. She was held aloft by a friend and waved at the ever-rocking Jett, who could only smile and nod in her direction. Only in Vegas, and only on Fremont Street.

The Who, Vedder, Jett Play In Someone's Backyard
from: wheb.iheart.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Music will meet nature in a new Discovery Channel series this summer. Beginning July 9, the network will begin airing a six-part family-friendly series titled Hello World! that will take a look at the wonders of the natural world through the narration of some of music's top musicians, including Steven Tyler and JOAN JETT.

In addition to the two rockers, episodes will be voiced by Christina Aguilera, Usher, Ellie Goulding and Dave Matthews. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series is being made in association with the World Wildlife Fund and is produced by Radical Media. There will be back-to-back episodes airing over a three-week span during the month of July.

"All of these artists bring a powerful love for wildlife and the environment, and we cannot wait to share these films with families across the world," said Rich Ross, group president of Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Science Channel, with Terry Macko, senior VP of communications and marketing at WWF, adding: "As we're faced daily with news and information about the declining state of our natural world, this series brings a hopeful message that bridges generations to inspire conservationists of any age."

Tyler's episode is titled Red, White & You, and the description states that the show will provide the backdrop of how several critters like prairie dogs, hawks and wild mustangs like to spend their summer vacations. As for Jett, her episode Bad Reputation centers on animals like wolves, alligators and sharks that often get a bad rap. "It is important for us to learn about misunderstood animals and how they affect the ecosystem and support human life," says Jett.

So tune in beginning Saturday, July 9 for the first two episodes of Hello World! and come back the following two weeks to finish out the series.
