Steven Tyler, JOAN JETT Among Narrators for Discovery Channel's 'Hello World!' Series
from: loudwire.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Music will meet nature in a new Discovery Channel series this summer. Beginning July 9, the network will begin airing a six-part family-friendly series titled Hello World! that will take a look at the wonders of the natural world through the narration of some of music's top musicians, including Steven Tyler and JOAN JETT.

In addition to the two rockers, episodes will be voiced by Christina Aguilera, Usher, Ellie Goulding and Dave Matthews. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series is being made in association with the World Wildlife Fund and is produced by Radical Media. There will be back-to-back episodes airing over a three-week span during the month of July.

"All of these artists bring a powerful love for wildlife and the environment, and we cannot wait to share these films with families across the world," said Rich Ross, group president of Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Science Channel, with Terry Macko, senior VP of communications and marketing at WWF, adding: "As we're faced daily with news and information about the declining state of our natural world, this series brings a hopeful message that bridges generations to inspire conservationists of any age."

Tyler's episode is titled Red, White & You, and the description states that the show will provide the backdrop of how several critters like prairie dogs, hawks and wild mustangs like to spend their summer vacations. As for Jett, her episode Bad Reputation centers on animals like wolves, alligators and sharks that often get a bad rap. "It is important for us to learn about misunderstood animals and how they affect the ecosystem and support human life," says Jett.

So tune in beginning Saturday, July 9 for the first two episodes of Hello World! and come back the following two weeks to finish out the series.

Yoko Ono, Moby, JOAN JETT, Howard Jones play on animal sanctuary benefit album
from: music-news

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Presented by the educational non-profit organization, Compassionate Farming Education Initiative (CFEI), "Home on the Range" is a benefit compilation album and documentary film, both to be released June 24. The album includes unreleased and exclusive tracks by established, outspoken artists who are passionate about animal rights and environmental issues.

"Home on the Range" was conceived and produced by Kneel Cohn (Warshow Angels) to raise funds for farm animal sanctuaries and to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected animals. He explains, "I envisioned a charity project that brought together an incredibly eclectic and inspiring group of bands and musicians. Ultimately, "Home on the Range" became a tremendous example of what an earnest, heart-driven indie fundraiser can become."

All of the songs on "Home on the Range" were donated by artists who have had a voice in the peaceful, compassionate lifestyle movement. High profile artists like Chrissie Hynde, Moby, Howard Jones, Conor Oberst, and JOAN JETT have long promoted plant-based diets and animal rights activism. Yoko Ono, who provided an exclusive song memorializing a family pet, is one of the world's leading peace advocates.

Contributors to the documentary, including singer-songwriter and Broadway / stage star Nellie McKay, Warshow Angels, Princess Superstar, and Karen Ellis-Ritter and Joshua Ritter of Modern Day Alchemy, also contribute music to the compilation.

Other artists represent many genres, eras, and creative mediums: Fred Macherino (The Color Fred) from Taking Back Sunday, The Last Amendment (Penny Rimbaud and Eve Libertine from anarchist punk group Crass and Tony Barber from Buzzcocks), Stephen R Burroughs (Head of David), Justin Sane (ANTI-FLAG), The Giving Tree Band (leading the eco-friendly music production and manufacturing movement), Micah Tamblyn (Dropa), Share Ross (Vixen) and Bam Ross (The Dogs D'Amour) are The Lovestains, Joy Askew, and Early Melodic Animals (actor/activist JD Parsons, filmmaker Riz Story, Daniel Hudson and Jane's Addiction's Stephen Perkins).

12 Monkeys 205 Review: Bodies of Water
from: threeifbyspace.net

low resolution image Not Enlargeable The breath-catching I asked for last week was partially granted in this week's episode. We got to see a little bit of our old Cassie, a lot of a more empathetic Jennifer, and side of Deacon you would never want to see in person. Plus, I have a theory on who the Witness is.

aka The Witness Previous guesses about the Witness being a current cast member, existing in the future have been, shall we say, put on hold. The Witness is clearly a house, residing in another plane of existence that uses its inside walls as a graffiti-style etch-a-sketch to communicate with the acid-tripping elite of the Army of the 12 Monkeys. It's just as simple as that, no fuss, no muss. Just a sentient house.

I'm going to need a little more than that, I'm afraid. Is this a poltergeist situation? Maybe a reinterpreted Domovoi? Those supernatural situations are usually between the people living in a house and the spirit co-habitating with them. If that's the intent, you could extrapolate that the house is really home to the the spirit of the Earth and that its plan to wipe out everything is derived from its dissatisfaction with the way the house (The Earth in this case) been treated. That would be in keeping with the Domovoi tradition (Russian or Slavic house spirits that play tricks on you if you keep a messy house), but… I sure wouldn't want all this awesome storytelling to be a PSA for recycling. Please, Terry Matalas, don't let that be what's Happening (see what I did there?). Would the Earth be as upset about how man treats its fellow man? I doubt it would get all genocidal about it, but then I'm more of an indoorsman and don't really know the Earth that well.

I think a better guess is that the house is just a representation the Witness uses to communicate with people because they'd have no hope of understanding him otherwise. Think of an intermediary or translator. What does that make the Witness? Possible candidate: Time itself. Last week, the mythology of the show expanded in a way that personified Time to have characteristics like a living thing. It's starting to look like personified Time has gone suicidal and has put a noose around its own neck, while using the Army of the 12 Monkeys to kick out the little stool it's standing on. Think about it. If Time spoke to you, would you have any chance of understanding it directly? Doubtful. Would Time make a pretty credible all-seeing, all-knowing "other"? Since I'm not counting actual deities here, I can think of nothing more credible than personified Time would be. If I'm right, how do we go about cheering up Time? It's not like Time can take… time-off! Hilarious.

All of that makes it sound like I didn't notice Aaron showing up in Cassie's vision quest with the Witness. That's not true, I just don't think Aaron is The Witness.

Jennifer
Future Jennifer had an interesting revelation that only sounds partially true: Primary-ness fades as the Primary ages. This is the reason she offers as to why Cassie must go back and team up with 2016 Jennifer. I have serious doubts about how much her powers have diminished. I wonder how long the Daughters would hold on to a prophet that can't prophesize any more. Maybe it's an honorary, emeritus type position since she got them through the worst of the plague and all. Manipulating things to position Cassie when and where she's needed seem more likely to me.

The Mary Tyler Moore theme song as interpreted by JOAN JETT opened this week's interaction with a much peppier and happy looking 2016 Jennifer Goines. Sure, she needed her meds and the BLACKHEARTS to drown out the voices and live a normal life, but who doesn't? One of the things the meds weren't helping with was her Kevin Garvey-esque lingering apparition of her dead mother. All-in-all though, Jennifer has made a LOT of progress from the committed wacko we met last season. She's still wacko, but she really wants to be normal. More than anything, I gained an appreciation for Jennifer as a fighter that I didn't have prior to this episode.

JOAN JETT, & BRYCE KANIGHTS INTRODUCE CINDY WHITEHEAD AT THE 2016 SHOF.
from: girlisnota4letterword.com

We know some people couldn't make it to the 2016 Skateboarding Hall of Fame Awards that were held on May 13, 2016 at the City National Grove in Anaheim, California, and have asked to see video of JOAN JETT's induction speech that she did for Cindy, as well as the talk's that David Hackett and Bryce Kanights gave about Cindy's skateboard history.

We've also posted Cindy Whitehead's full induction speech that includes a message about female empowerment for girls out there.

We hope you enjoy the video!

Huge thanks to JOAN JETT, KENNY LAGUNA, BLACKHEART RECORDS, and Greg Oliver for Joan's awesome video introduction. You are all amazing! A big shout out to powerhouse Lisa Jenkins who believed in the GN4LW message and helped make this all happen. Bryce Kanights for the heartfelt words and discussing Cindy's skate history, David Hackett for his re-cap of Cindy's past and present, Skateboarding Hall of Fame and IASC for the honor, and much love to all of our friends and family who have been supporting since day one.

Cindy's final message for girls out there:

"So tonight I'd like to congratulate every little girl out there that defies her parents, stands up to her brother, the kids at school, or authority, and goes out there and goes after what she wants, not hearing the word NO, and fighting for what she loves. You can totally do this. We OG girls have your back".

"It's definitely time to smash the hell out of some glass ceilings, kick some ass, not care what anyone else thinks, and show the world just what girls can do - and I encourage all of you girls to go out there, have a blast, set the world on fire, and do some epic shit."

JOAN JETT has been a star since she was 16.

She's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has enduring monster hits in "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" and "Bad Reputation." She is an icon.

And she's coming here.

Jett called us during a break in her tour with fellow Rock Hall members Heart to talk guitar, the music industry and connecting with her fans through music.

Q. You started playing guitar at 13, and you were in the RUNAWAYS a few years later. Did you always want to be a musician?
A.
I wanted to be so many different things when I was young. At age 5, I wanted to be an astronaut. I wanted to be an archaeologist. In junior high school, I started with chorus class and things like that, and I dreamed about doing plays. I guess it was about that time I started noticing guitars on the radio.

I remember hearing the band Free and their song "All Right Now." It was out of tune. I knew it felt great. That's what guitars sound like. I asked for an electric guitar for Christmas, and I made a lot of hideous noise.

Long-rocking Jett rolls into Dells for May 20 show
from: wiscnews.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Though she clearly does not believe in a mandatory retirement age for rock musicians, JOAN JETT is not opposed to writing and singing a song or two about the challenges of crossing a certain age threshold.

Jett's latest album, in fact - the hard-rocking "Unvarnished," released in 2013 - is peppered with such songs, about mature themes including losing a parent, surviving the end of a long-term relationship and taking stock of one's life.

"I guess rock ‘n' roll is stepping into a new age because now you've got rock ‘n' rollers who are getting older, and how do you reconcile rock ‘n' roll with those subjects (of aging) when we've always associated it with fun, free-living and all that sort of stuff?" Jett, 57, said Monday afternoon during a telephone interview with Dells Events.

"Yes, rock ‘n' roll can be that, but it's also about life, and we're storytellers just like in any other genre (of music). I think it's really important to connect with other rockers and other people who love music and talk about the things we all go through," she said.

Connecting with audiences is what keeps Jett - who along with her band the BLACKHEARTS has sold millions of records, performed before audiences all over the world and was in 2015 inducted into the Rock ‘n' Roll Hall of Fame - touring, even as she enters her fifth decade as a recording artist and performing musician.

That pursuit will bring her to Wisconsin Dells on May 20 for an 8 p.m. show at Crystal Grand Music Theatre, as part of a 50-show tour that runs from next week through November.
