Carpets & Candids: JOAN JETT's sheer stars
from: laineygossip.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable So good that she's not wearing this top with a bra underneath because I feel like it would ruin the effect of the stars. Which is always the dilemma with sheer. It always takes away from the design of it when you have to be "modest". It's just breasts!

Watch Green Day cover "Bad Reputation" with JOAN JETT at surprise show
from: altpress.com

Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is a man of many talents. Alongside being the lead singer of a massively popular band, working on Broadway and owning a coffee company, Armstrong is also the star of a new film. Geezer tells the tale of a middle-aged rocker having a nostalgic crisis about his punk youth while already settled into to family life. Tribeca Film Festival hosted the world premiere of the movie, plus a surprise performance from Green Day (minus bassist Mike Dirnt), which featured a special guest appearance by JOAN JETT and a cover of "Bad Reputation." Green Day Authority reported the following setlist and dug up some live videos. Check it out below.

Armstrong and Green Day drummer Tré Cool played with Jett, Jeff Matika and Jesse Malin.

Setlist:
1. Devil's Kind (from Geezer)
2. Scattered
3. American Idiot with JOAN JETT
4. Bad Reputation with JOAN JETT
5. Ordinary World (from Geezer)

Billie Joe Armstrong Rocks With JOAN JETT After 'Geezer' Premiere at Tribeca Film Fest
from: billboard.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable In the new film Geezer, which premiered Saturday night (April 23) at the Tribeca Film Festival, Green Day leader Billie Joe Armstrong plays a 40-year-old former punk rocker with a wife, two kids and loads of regrets. It's a character Armstrong obviously gets, but in real life, he's anything but a sad old man.

Taking the stage at Spring Studios after Saturday's screening, the 44-year-old father of two blazed through a brief set that included two Green Day tunes, a pair of songs Armstrong wrote for Geezer, and one very cool team-up with JOAN JETT, who makes a cameo in the film.

Backed by Green Day drummer Tré Cool and New York hometown hero Jesse Malin on rhythm guitar, Armstrong opened with "Devil's Kind," one of the tunes he penned for the movie. It's a raw, hyper-catchy punk jam reminiscent of the stuff Green Day released in 2008 as Foxboro Hot Tubs, and it definitely bodes well for the new album Armstrong has been teasing.

"Mike's gonna be pissed," Armstrong joked, referring to Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, who couldn't make the show. Also absent was the band's recently added fourth member, guitarist Jason White, who was busy playing a record-release show with his new side project, California.

Next came a couple of Green Day tunes: "Scattered," a scorching Nimrod cut that had Armstrong leaping through the air like it was still 1997, and "American Idiot," featuring Jett on guitar. The band only made it through a verse and chorus of the latter before segueing into Jett's 1980 all-time badass anthem "Bad Reputation."

Whatever youth elixir Armstrong is swilling, Jett's doing double shots. At 57, the RUNAWAYS founder and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer still has the voice, the sneer and the leather pants that made her a star when Armstrong was still in grade school.

As an audience that included Geezer co-star Selma Blair and director Lee Kirk cooled down following Jett's cameo, Armstrong closed with "Ordinary World," an acoustic ballad he performs in the film. With a chord pattern similar to Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice," it's a song about finding happiness after your dreams have fizzled.

Style superhero! Selma Blair takes a fashion risk in a cape-like dress to watch Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and JOAN JETT rock out at Geezer premiere
from: dailymail.co.uk

low resolution image Not Enlargeable There does not seem to be a go-to dress code for a red carpet that turns into a punk rock show, but this star did her best to hit a high note.

Selma Blair made a style statement at the premiere of her new film Geezer on Saturday night in New York.

The 43-year-old actress pushed the envelope in a dramatic look at the Tribeca Film Festival event.

While the rest of the premiere's attendees went for casual ensembles, the Cruel Intentions star stepped out in a striking creation by Christian Siriano.

Plucked from the designer's pre-Fall collection, the black dress wrapped around the star's physique perfectly.

JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS Take No Prisoners at AZ Bike Week
from: wror.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable From her illustrious solo career to her early beginnings in The RUNAWAYS, JOAN JETT has refused to be anything but herself, and that's the exact trait that has set her apart from her contemporaries.

Countless women, from Courtney Love to Lzzy Hale owe a debt to the likes of Jett, but her influence isn't limited to one gender, which might be her greatest accomplishment of all.

However, hit records and a Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction doesn't hurt, either.

JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS Take No Prisoners at AZ Bike Week

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Jett, BLACKHEARTS along with Heart impress

In case you don't already know, it's Arizona Bike Week; yesterday kick-started the annual event. This mammoth celebration of all things chopper-related also includes an active concert roster throughout its weeklong run, featuring a lot of longtime acts guaranteed to incite nostalgia and deliver hit-filled sets, like Social Distortion, Blues Traveler, and Reverend Horton Heat. JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS were one of the opening night's acts.

The longtime rocker, and 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, took the stage with her band (DOUGIE NEEDLES on guitar, bassist Hal B. Selzer, drummer Michael McDermott, and Kasim Sulton on keyboards and vocals) to deliver emphatically slightly more than an hour's worth of the straight-ahead rock tunes, loaded with the hook-laden guitar riffs, anthemic stomps, and catchy vocals that have helped Jett collect and keep a fan base since she went full throttle with her solo career back in the '80s. The set delivered the familiarity and comfort by including several of those hits that the crowd was anxiously awaiting.

Everyone went nutso when they tore right into "Bad Reputation," and rightfully so - it sounded pretty killer. Jett's voice sounded powerful and growly. The general event sound system was crisp and booming, so it took their inspired delivery and pushed it over the edge. That level of energy waned a bit by the end of the night, but it served to throw the show into high gear.

With no break, it was right into "Cherry Bomb," the biggest hit by the RUNAWAYS, the legendary all-girl teen band that gave Jett her start. It was a little bittersweet to hear it. It's a killer tune, of course, but it also served as a reminder of the controversy involving Jett's response to RUNAWAYS' bassist Jackie Fox's announcement last year about being raped as a teen by the band's producer, Kim Fowley. Supposedly, Jett was in the room at the time it happened but she maintains that she has no recollection of the incident. In any case, the fans were jazzed to hear it and doubly thrilled when she turned the mic toward them to let them handle some of the chorus. Later, she did another RUNAWAYS track, "You Drive Me Wild," sharing that it was "the first song I ever wrote."

After those couple of opening tunes, she stripped off her black leather jacket and addressed the crowd with "Welcome to Arizona Bike Week. We're the BLACKHEARTS from New York," and asked if they were ready to have some fun. Turns out, they were. They launched into Jett's popular cover of the old Gary Glitter song, "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)," which inspired a lot of answers from crowd members who definitely did want to do some touching.

Triple bill - Heart, JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, Cheap Trick - to play Usana Amphitheatre, August 29
from: sltrib.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Three recent inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will join forces on tour this summer - which includes a stop in Utah.

The bands Heart, JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS and Cheap Trick will share the bill on Monday, August 29, at Usana Amphitheatre in West Valley City.

Heart, inducted into the Rock Hall in 2013, made its big splash in the '70s, melding the talents of sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. Their first four albums - "Dreamboat Annie," "Little Queen," "Magazine" and "Dog and Butterfly" - each went platinum, and yielded a string of still-familiar songs that include "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," "Heartless," "Straight On" and "Dog and Butterfly." They continued to produce hits in the '80s, including "What About Love," "Never," "These Dreams" and "Alone." Nancy broke away from Heart in the '90s, to raise a family with her husband, filmmaker Cameron Crowe, and to write music for his movies, including "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous." The sisters reunited as Heart in 2002.

JOAN JETT, previously known as a founding member of the pioneering all-female band The RUNAWAYS, started recording with her new band, The BLACKHEARTS, in 1979. Their first studio album, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," was released in 1981 and went platinum, with the title track hitting No. 1 on the singles charts. The band's other well-known singles include "Crimson and Clover" (a cover of the Tommy James and the Shondells song), "Do You Wanna Touch Me" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You."

Cheap Trick maintains mostly the same line-up that propelled it to stardom in the '70s: Singer/guitarist Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen and bassist Tom Petersson. (Original drummer Bun E. Carlos stopped touring in 2010, replaced by Nielsen's son Daxx.) The band was known for its furious live shows, captured in the classic 1979 live album "Cheap Trick at Budokan," which included one of their biggest hits, "I Want You to Want Me." Other hits include "Surrender" and "Dream Police."

Tickets for the Usana Amphitheatre show - ranging from $30.50 to $90.50 - go on sale Friday, April 8, at 10 a.m., via Smith's Tix.
