low resolution image Not Enlargeable Musicians and notable personalities Matt Sorum (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver), JOAN JETT, Kevin Martin (Candlebox), actresses Tamala Jones (Castle) and Liz Carey (Chelsea Lately) and more have donated one of a kind, autographed items to help raise money at the AVM Awareness and Support Julie event taking place in NYC on September 30th, 2015.

Available on site during the AVM Awareness and Support Julie event are celebrity, athlete and music figure autographs, including a Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) autographed G N' R 24" drum head, JOAN JETT signed items, Candlebox autographed Epiphone acoustic guitar, ABC's "Castle" script signed by the cast. All will be auctioned and raffled off throughout the evening.

Thirty-one year old Julie Nuccio was diagnosed with a cranial AVM (arteriovenous malformation) on July 28th, 2015, just one day before her birthday. Musician, Matt Sorum says "When I heard about this through my friend Kevin Martin (Candlebox), I wanted to help Julie. I was happy to donate the signed Guns N' Roses drumhead for the event to create awareness for AVM."

Although notables such as MLB player Joe Niekro (deceased), NFL player Mike Patterson and actress Tamala Jones have suffered from AVM, the lack of awareness of this condition is still in need of major attention.

To kick off AVM Awareness Month (October) and in support of Julie, her sister is hosting the event, which has been sanctioned by The Joe Niekro Foundation, on Wednesday, September 30th at Jerome's at Rivington F+B.

Darlene Love and Little Steven album release at the Whiskey
from: examiner.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Last weekend Darlene Love and E-Street band guitarist Steven Van Zandt played 2 sold out shows at the Whiskey (Sept. 18 and 20th). These shows were to celebrate the release of "Introducing Darlene Love," which Van Zandt produced. The band included around 20 musicians, of horns, strings, bass, drums, guitar, and backing vocals. A few members came from Conan's Basic Cable band - Jerry Vivino (Sax), Mike Merritt (Bass), Richie "La Bamba" Rosenberg (Trombone), and Mark Pender (trumpet). Friday's show started at 10:45 pm 30 minutes after the scheduled time and lasted almost 2 hours. Legendary producer and manager Lou Adler was brought out to introduce the show. In attendance were song writing icons Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Richie Sambora, and Steve Jordan. Earlier in the week Love was at the Grammy Museum as part of their "In Conversation With" series.

The set included Crystals classics "He's A Rebel," and "Da Doo Ron Ron," which Love led the crowd singing. The set also included a few covers of songs by artists Love admires including JOAN JETT, The Righteous Brothers, and Ike and Tina Turner. Love left the stage for a few songs and let Van Zandt take over then returned to close set and do an encore. The encore was "River Deep, Mountain High," and "Jesus Is The Rock (That Keeps Me Rollin). Love turned 74 this past July and her voice hasn't changed a bit. What's better than seeing two legends like Van Zandt and Love together at such a historic venue. She put on a great performance and had the perfect group of musicians. Be sure to check out her new album "Introducing Darlene Love."

from: vogue.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable JOAN JETT, who turns 57 today, was just a teenager when she first muscled her way into the Los Angeles rock scene with the 1976 cult hit "Cherry Bomb," which paved the way for the RUNAWAYS to become the first all-girl group to make it in punk's boys clubâ€"kicking off a fierce yet fine-boned brand of androgyny that she has embraced to this day. From her spiked obsidian shag to her sooty, kohl-rimmed eyes and cheekbones sculpted with slashes of fuchsia blushâ€"punctuated with the occasional rainbow lid or soft-shine red lipâ€"Jett offered a tough-edged yin to bandmate Cherie Currie's blonde, feather-haired yang. In honor of the feminist icon's birthday, here's a look at her five signature beauty moves for girls who don't just love rock 'n' roll, but want to look the part.

What happens in Vegas does not stay in Vegas - it ends up on YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter - so let's prepare for the 2015 iHeartRadio fest by taking a look at top highlights from the past years.

LONG BEACH, NY - One of this years can't-miss exclusive film and music events will take place Saturday, September 26th as world-renowned hip-hop artist and political activist Talib Kweli will be on hand for the world premiere screening and Q&A for his film "Talib Kweli: Prisoner of Conscious, Live from Brooklyn" in The Madison Theatre at Molloy College at 10pm during the 2015 Long Beach International Film Festival. In May 2013 Talib Kweli released his fifth solo album. The following summer in June 2014, Talib performed the album in its entirety for a crowd at Williamsburg's Brookyn Bowl. This film documents that performance.

"Talib Kweli: Prisoner of Conscious, Live from Brooklyn" will screen as part of "The JOAN JETT Music in Film Series", a new category added this year in honor of longtime supporter JOAN JETT's involvement in the Festival and as an homage to her induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier in 2015.

Other films in the JOAN JETT Music Film Series include "All in Time", "Landfill Harmonic" and "Lee's 88 Keys" - a feature documentary that shares the story of 2015 Jazz Hero Award Winner, composer and pianist Lee Shaw. Shaw lived a diverse, accomplished, and charmed life but struggled with being a woman in a male dominated field throughout her career.

This year, the Long Beach International Film Festival (LBIFF) will be celebrating its 4th Anniversary as they bring a fresh line up of exciting films from around the world to Long Island. Taking place September 24-27th primarily in the City of Long Beach, NY the event will once again branch off into Rockville Centre as well. There are also three new screening venues to expand its film programming - along with filmmaker's lounges and after parties at local restaurants and hotels.

The winner of Best Feature Film will receive one complementary studio day at Grumman Studios in Bethpage, NY along with the services of a colorist from Technicolor to assist in any future projects.

Rock Icons: My list of the greatest females in rock
from: calgarysun.com

Some would say that rock n' roll is an old boys club but I think that there has been a long list of great females throughout the years to come along and break the doors down on that theory.

Be it punk, glam, new wave or pop, there have been plenty of great women there to help shape the modern rock sound and pave the way for even more female artists along the way.

Although sex appeal does play a role in some of these artists success stories, beauty alone could never carry these women through the ranks of becoming a true rock icon.

Raw talent, charisma and attitude is what all of the women on this list have in common and have allowed them to become household names in the music world.

Last week I gave you my list of the top male frontmen in rock, this week I'll even things out and give you my list of ten women who deserve equal standing amongst the icons of rock.

10. Gwen Stefani
Long before Gwen Stefani was a pop star/fashion icon/television talent show judge, she was the lead singer for the So-Cal ska-rock band No Doubt.

Formed in 1986 by her brother Eric, No Doubt was inspired by the music of bands such as Madness, Fishbone and The Selecter. They released their self-titled debut album in 1992 but it wasn't until their third album, Tragic Kingdom, in 1995 that they would achieve mainstream success.

Stefani's platinum blonde hair, stunning good looks and wild fashion sense made her stand out amongst the guys in the band and that caused some tension as journalists and photographers would mainly focus on her for their articles.

JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS AT KENTUCKY STATE FAIR IN LOUISVILLE, KY ON 28-AUG-2015
from: nationalrockreview.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable What a difference a year makes. Last year, Devour the Day and JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS were scheduled to close the Kentucky State Fair concert series. However, a massive storm washed out their show. This year, under a picture perfect Kentucky Sky, Devour the Day and JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS came back for another try, this time resulting in a magical evening.

Local radio station, 95.7 WQMF, disc jockey Charlie Steele greets the largest crowd of the entire fair season kicking off the night's festivities. Memphis-based Devour the Day take the stage, starting their set with "Respect," the opening track off their 2013 debut album, Time and Pressure, which immediately grabbed everyone's attention. Their hard driving, hard rock set rolls right into "Blackout" and "Get Out Of My Way," which everyone enjoys.

Taking a quick breather between songs, guitarist David Hoffman pauses a moment to snap a panoramic photo of the crowd. He says he plans to post it on his "Myspace" site (actually, it is on the band's Facebook page). The guys are clearly enjoying themselves, taking in the energy of the crowd and the great evening; they were all smiles on stage.

Launching into the last half of their set, Devour the Day perform "Move On" and "Handshakes To Fist Fights." The later features a great line, "I ain't going out like that!"
