Foo Fighters Release Two New Songs From 'Sonic Highways,' Announce 20th Anniversary Concert
from: beautyworldnews.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable "Outside," which was inspired by Los Angeles and "What Did I Do?/God as My Witness," which speaks of Austin, TX, are two of the songs the band released before their new record drops in stores on November 10.

The record contains eight tracks recorded in eight different American cities: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Austin, Nashville and Washington, D.C. Each song was also recorded with an artist who represents the city.

The band's frontman Dave Grohl described the album as "instantly recognizable as a Foo Fighters record" but with a twist in an interview with Rolling Stone.

"There's something deeper and more musical to it," he added. "I think that these cities and these people influenced us to stretch out and explore new territory, without losing our 'sound.'"

Here's the Foo Fighters' July 4 RFK Stadium Show Line-up
from: washingtoncitypaper.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable f you're like most of D.C., you missed out on seeing Springfield, Va.'s golden boy Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters at the Black Cat last month. It was the smallest venue the band had played since its last show at the Cat 11 years ago, and it made the city go absolutely nutso.

Riding high on the first few episodes of its road-tripping HBO miniseries, Sonic Highways, and ready to drop their album by the same name this Monday, the Foo Fighters are back to the arena circuit. And to celebrate their 20th anniversary (god, I'm old), they're hosting an all-day bash at RFK Stadium next Independence Day, with T-shirts to match.

The rest of the lineup, which was announced this morning with a poster in the go-go tradition, is far radder than the average stadium-show fare, taking cues from Sonic Highways' study of classic American music. Buddy Guy, Gary Clark Jr., Heart, JOAN JETT, LL Cool J, and Trombone Shorty will join D.C.'s own Trouble Funk and the Foos at RFK.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Nov. 8, so set your alarm clock earlyâ€"unless you're one of the 350-or-so folks who showed up in front of the Black Cat the minute the band's last D.C. show was announced, in which case, leave some for the rest of us.

She loves rock 'n' roll fashion! JOAN JETT teams up with Hot Topic for her first ever clothing line
from: dailymail.co.uk

low resolution image Not Enlargeable The collection of zippered pants, motorcycle jackets, dresses and tops, priced from $32.50 to $64.50, hit stores this week.

Music legend JOAN JETT has designed her first ever fashion line, collaborating with clothing brand Hot Topic to create an edgy range of rock ‘n' roll-inspired ensembles.

The collection, which is priced between $32.50 and $64.50, features plenty of punk designs and includes a zip-up tank top and a pleather jacket complete with lace-up sleeves.

Hot Topic, a retail brand found mostly in suburban malls, unveiled the collection as part of its 25th anniversary celebration.

For her first foray into the fashion industry, the 56-year-old called upon the services of her longtime friends and fashion designers Daang and Ray Goodman, the brains behind popular brand Tripp NY, to help her create the perfect collection.

'I've talked about doing something like this over the years but nothing ever came to fruition,' Ms Jett told WWD.

'Daang and Ray really get my styles and I didn't have to do the nuts and bolts of the design. They take my essence and translate my vibe and we go from there.'

The BLACKHEARTS frontwoman was already familiar with the retailer from her time on the road.

'I've known about Hot Topic for years and years because on the road there are very few places in certain areas of the country where you can find kind of rock 'n' roll clothes,' she said.

Asked to describe her own aesthetic, she said: 'It's tough to put words to your own self. It sounds kind of cliche to say but minimalist, rock 'n' roll, edgy and dark, but they all apply to my style â€" androgynous because I don't have a bunch of curves.'

Vote for the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees you think should be Inducted!
from: Rockhall.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS created a potent mix of hard rock, glam, punk, metal and garage rock that sounds fresh and relevant in any era. Their biggest hit, "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" (Number One in 1982) is a rock classic - as pure and simple a statement about the music's power as Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven." The honesty and power of their records make you believe that rock and roll can change the world.

As Jett once described rock and roll: "It's a feeling thing, it's emotion. You don't think about it. If you start thinking rock 'n' roll, you're fucked. That's when you're homogenized. That's when it's boring. And that's when it's bullshit." From her days as a founding member of the all-female RUNAWAYS, Jett has made loud, hook-laden records that convey toughness and joy. Sporting black leather and a shag to create a sexy and androgynous look, Jett took over a role formerly reserved for male rockers. She formed the BLACKHEARTS in 1982, and their classic four-piece sound muscled past the synthesizers that dominated the 80s and carried the flag for rock and roll. Three of their albums - I Love Rock 'N' Roll, Album and Up Your Alley - reached the Top 20, behind songs written by Jett and manager KENNY LAGUNA. By covering songs from all corners of the rock catalogue - from Gary Glitter to Tommy James to Sly and the Family Stone - the band effortlessly broke down barriers between genres and eras. In the 90s, Jett's no-nonsense attitude and vocal style was a major influence on the riot grrrl movement, and she went on to produce Bikini Kill and record with L7. She continues to be an inspiration for young female rockers.

Rock Chic
from: apparelnews.net

low resolution image Not Enlargeable Attention rock chicks and fashion collab fans. The JOAN JETT X TRIPP NYC Fashion Collection for Hot Topic collection has just launched. The collaboration brings together the City of Industry, Calif.-based retailer, rocker JOAN JETT and rock ‘n roll clothier Tripp NYC, founded and designed by Daang Goodman.

The new collection will bow as Hot Topic prepares to celebrate "25 years of being "all about the music."

"Working with Daang and TRIPP NYC was effortless, as we approached this collection from the same fashion sensibility and DIY spirit," said Jett, in a statement. "I'm blown away by how the collection turned out - these clothes are some of my favorite new additions to my closet."

Goodman found inspiration in Jett's personal style and attitude, as well as her music to create eight "rock fashion basics," including skinny jeans, vests, moto jackets and tops, packed with details like pleather insets, metal zippers and lace-up details. Prices range from $32.50 for an asymmetrical tank to $64.50 for the moto jackets. You can see more pieces from the line in the video below.

"When I finally met Joan, I felt as if I'd known her forever, and was so excited to be working with her," Goodman said. "I've been designing for a girl like Joan all of my life! And I know the Hot Topic girl is going to love it!"

The new collection seems to be an indication that Jett and Hot Topic have buried the hatchet, so to speak. Last year, the two clashed over Hot Topic's Blackheart lingerie collection. Jett argued that the brand infringed on her independent label BLACKHEART RECORDS and her band's name The BLACKHEARTS.

To celebrate the launch of JOAN JETT X TRIPP NYC, Hot Topic's charitable arm, the Hot Topic Foundation, donated $250,000 to Little Kids Rock's "Modern Band" music program, which helps provide public schools with instruments, training, and other resources to teach popular musical styles. The gift was presented on Oct. 23 at the Little Kids Rock's annual benefit in New York, where Jett was named Rocker of the Year.

Founded in 2004, the Hot Topic Foundation has given nearly $10 million in grants to non-profit organization that "encourage young people to express their individuality through music and the arts."

JOAN JETT reflects on legacy
from: dispatch.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable NEW YORK â€" Punk pioneer JOAN JETT doesn't care if you lump her in with old folks.

The I Love Rock 'N Roll singer embraces aging while raging â€" and, at 56, relishes her gig as a rockin' role model.

Recently, the snarlingly sensuous singer-guitarist provided the three-chord thrash as she was named Rocker of the Year at the Little Kids Rock educational fundraiser. Alice Cooper presented the award. Other performers included Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Tommy James, who sang Crimson and Clover with Jett.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2015 nominee, who co-founded the seminal group the RUNAWAYS at age 16, spent decades fending off music industry men who snubbed and humiliated female rockers. Although the glass ceiling isn't entirely shattered, "There are girls playing rock 'n' roll in every city I go to," Jett said.

These days, her ferocious philosophy is tempered: Count your blessings; welcome challenges; find your passion; honor your parents; "be kind but don't take any crap."

"Aspects of me are very confident. I'm also very shy," confessed the woman who struts around the stage with flaring nostrils and arched brow, tenderized by a wink or wry smile.

Jett's parents bought her a $30 guitar when she was 13. Her teacher looked at her strangely when she wanted to rock.

"When you're a kid," she said, "you're naive" and "figure you can conquer the world. You don't think about obstacles."

Still, she acknowledged it was "life and death . . . scary" when 23 record companies rebuffed her first solo album.

The rejection was actually a "blessing" â€" prompting producer KENNY LAGUNA and his wife to sink their meager life savings into BLACKHEART RECORDS.

Jett peddled her vinyl "out of the trunk of the car."

"Some aspects of being young were difficult," she said. Even a rebel can "worry about what people think about you, say about you."

The grown-up Joan knows how to "take a step back and breathe."
