JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, the Smithereens
from: houstonpress.com

If you're going practically all the way to Tomball for a retro bill, it might as well be one that can practically rock you right back to the Loop. Hell, JOAN JETT might be able to do that even without twentysomething hardbodies the BLACKHEARTS backing her up. Since first stepping onstage with the RUNAWAYS in the mid-'70s, Jett has shown nothing but fierce determination and badass attitude, both in the chart-topping days of "I Love Rock and Roll" and "Bad Reputation" and as the patron saint of a generation of female rockers spanning Bikini Kill to the Donnas. Joining her are the Smithereens, Jersey boys who clung (loudly) to sharp hooks and crisp chords when '80s college radio was otherwise mired in mopey synth-pop and melody-challenged punk â€" and were rewarded with hits like "A Girl Like You," "Behind a Wall of Sleep" and "Blues Before and After." Giving nothing away, the band's latest LP, B-Sides the Beatles, dusts some cobwebs off more obscure corners of the Fab Four's catalog like "You Can't Do That" and "P.S. I Love You."

JOAN JETT is Still One Bad Girl Rocker Chick!
from: associatedcontent.com

In the 1990's JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS were a really rockin' band, and they had a huge following all over, but mostly on the east coast, esp. New York and Philadelphia. Their music is still popular today! Joan has always been kind of a rebel, and was theÊÊfirst female performer to have her own record label, BLACKHEART RECORDS. She was working with songwriter and producer KENNY LAGUNA, who helped her get started with BLACKHEART RECORDS. They spent their own capital to press and distribute albums, sometimes selling record out of the trunk of his car after her concerts.

Joan has been rocking it hard for a liong time now, since around 1975. she dropped out of high school at 15 to follow her dreams of being a rocker! moved to LA from Maryland, and went to Taft High School in Woodland Hills. She hooked up with a group called the RUNAWAYS, and with this band they did 5 albums from 1975 to 1979 Although she is most popular for her work with JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS.

Jett's vocal range is considered to be "Middle Soprano", which gives her vocal range a depth that suits her with a heavy, powerful resonation. Her song writing and musical technique seems to have been greatly influenced by a beat driven rhythm style, which is similar to rock bands from the Philadelphia area. Her lyrics feature many different ways in which love has been lost, working class issues, angry girl rocker themes. She has an intense drive to be singularly unique.

She has done work in other areas, film, television, broadway. I highly recommend this album as one of JOAN JETT's finest achievements.

JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS "The original hit collection" released July 1994, is an awesome collection of covers which showed exactly how talented this musician really is.

Red Rock Pictures Teams with VanÕs Warped Tour to Deploy New Film Distribution Model
from: businesswire.com

low resolution image Not Enlargeable LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Red Rock Pictures Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: RRPH), a film and entertainment marketing company, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with National Lampoon and the founder of Van's Warped Tour to promote and distribute the upcoming feature film "Endless Bummer." The film, starring Matthew Lillard, will be released in June of 2009 commensurate with the 15th anniversary kick-off of Van's Warped Tour. In addition to production and marketing expertise, Red Rock will facilitate licensing of the National Lampoon brand and distribution services.

"The climate is very challenging for traditional film distribution," said Red Rock Chief Executive Officer, Reno R. Rolle'. "The titles generating the most meaningful return on investment are those benefiting from costly and risk laden theatrical distribution. It's this box office exposure that fuels sales and rental revenue of DVDs at the retail level." Rolle continued, "Van's Warped Tour will reach close to 800,000 kids across 50 cities in the U.S. this summer. This represents an ideal demographic match for our film and we intend to market very hard to this captive audience. It's a solid movie with a great soundtrack that features JOAN JETT who also appears in the film. We expect to generate significant awareness promoting the film throughout the 50 city tour. This should translate very effectively into sales and rental of the DVD in the various retail outlets. In effect, we're replacing the theatrical component of traditional film distribution by partnering with a live concert tour."

Created in 1995 by Kevin Lyman as a music and extreme sports festival, Warped Tour is now the longest running annual tour in North America. Lyman began with a handful of his favorite bands then was joined the following year by Vans shoe company who among others, has sponsored the tour ever since. In addition to being an investor in the film, Lyman also has a "story by" credit and has been very involved creatively in the production and marketing of Endless Bummer.

The Cocktail Slippers Rehearsing with JOAN JETT (well almost...)!
from: cocktailslippers.blogspot

low resolution image Not Enlargeable At the rehearsal room in New York, JOAN JETT was rehearsing with her band in the room next to ours! We knew she had been playing our songs on her radio show, but meeting her by chance like that was a real rush. The RUNAWAYS was a real inspiration growing up, and Joan was sooo nice and just as beautiful as ever!
