Bands Reunited: Scandal (featuring THOMMY PRICE)
from: VH1.com

In the early '80s, Scandal dominated the MTV airwaves with their pop-rock hooks and the sassy stage presence of Patty Smyth. But after a meteoric rise, the band lost member after member, suffering a slow and painful demise. In 1981, guitarist Zack Smith founded Scandal, whose lineup included bassist Ivan Elias, guitarist Keith Mack, Keyboardist Benjy King, drummer THOMMY PRICE, and tough-talking vocalist Patty Smyth. The band’s raw vitality led to a gold record, making them an MTV favorite.

RAMONES - RAMONESMANIA WE GOT THE AIRWAVES

Rockin' the NYC club SPIRIT where Blondie, The Strokes, Sonic Youth, Tommy Ramone, C.J. Ramone, Elvis Ramone, frequent Ramones record producer Daniel Rey, the unstoppable JOAN JETT, Andrew WK, Alan Vega (Suicide), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Bill Stephenson, Mark Sheehan, Jed Davis & Bandcamp. And rock they did.

Jed Davis & Bandcamp got the evening kicking with a tremendous high energy set which included the now classic song "I Still Remember You", produced by Tommy Ramone. The crowd was in awe all evening as Blondie pulled out all the favorites...non-stop, and the Strokes blasted away and held nothing back through 11 songs, new hits and older ones. Oddly the Strokes never performed any Ramones songs in their respective set which I think the crowd was expecting every now and then. I was.(?) Sonic Youth was intense as always n' super tight, in addition to long time punk, Alan Vega from SUICIDE).

'80s make a comeback They paved the way for modern rock. And they're taking their act on the road
from: journalsentinel.com

On the radio
Less alternative and critically appraised '80s pop sounds have resurfaced among Milwaukee music listeners.

A few weeks ago, radio station WLTQ-FM (97.3) converted from light rock classics to an all-'80s rock format. Jeff Lynn, program director at the new WLTQ, now known as "The Brew," said the station's new focus will be on mainstream hard-rock '80s songs.

"The program is conceived and programmed right out of Milwaukee," Lynn says. "It's generally rock of '80s we play, but not strictly, which gives us a bit more latitude. We can play some Boston tunes from the late '70s or other stuff from the early '90s. . . . For now, we're playing strictly rock, no pop."

I Wanna Be Celebrated

Back in the late 1970s, when punk was still considered very much a dirty word in the music industry, the Ramones used to end their live shows with lead singer Joey Ramone hoisting aloft a homemade banner whose message was, to the group's loyal faithful, as much a beacon of freedom as the one raised in New York harbor by Lady Liberty. "Gabba Gabba Hey" read the sign, echoing the climactic rallying cry of the group's song "Pinhead" — a tune inspired by Tod Browning's classic circus sideshow horror film "Freaks," and the gleefully maniacal chant that its misshapen title characters use to welcome those from the "normal" world into their misbegotten midst: "Gabba gabba/We accept you/We accept you/One of us/Gabba gabba/We accept you/We accept you/One of us."

It's been better than a quarter of a century since that banner was first unfurled, and a full 30 years since their August 1974 debut show at Hilly Kristal's seedy CBGB's was witnessed by a grand total of five warm bodies (six if you counted the bartender's dog). And yet, even though they never had a hit single or a hit album during their entire existence as a band — an existence that ended with a largely unheralded "retirement" in 1996 after an exhausting 2,200-plus gigs aimed squarely at the status quo of musicdom — the Ramones live on.

Mostly in spirit, to be sure: The September 15 death of guitarist Johnny Ramone from prostate cancer marked the passing of now three of the four original Ramones; only drummer Tommy survives his former bandmates. Joey succumbed to a blood disease in April 2001, and bassist Dee Dee Ramone died of an apparent drug overdose in 2002, right after the group's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But with the high-profile documentary "End of the Century" currently showing around the country, with Tommy working on a possible Broadway-bound musical based on their life story, and with never-ending testimony from musicians from the mid-'70s onwards that the Ramones were as influential to their own and successive generations as the Beatles were to theirs, the mass acceptance denied the Forest Hills misfits throughout their career seems finally to have arrived.

Blondie, The Strokes, Sonic Youth, C J, Ramone,Tommy Ramone and Elvis Ramone Daniel Rey, JOAN JETT, Andrew WK, David Johansen, Alan Vega (Suicide) Josh Homme, (Queens of the stone age) Bill Stevenson, Mark Sheehan, Jed Davis & Bandcamp hosted by Mickey Leigh

Johnny Ramone died at his home in Los Angeles, California, three days after the Ramones 30th anniversary concert in Los Angeles, which he had planned along with Arturo Vega, the band's creative director. The celebration was intended to be a two-part party with a New York City event to take place on October 8th, which is Johnny and Ramones' bass player CJ's birthdays. "Johnny was fully aware of his health situation, " says Vega, "and we discussed what to do in the event of his death. His words were 'We can't disappoint the fans and all the people that are working so hard on the shows.' " Following Johnny's wishes, the October 8th event will take place as planned - at the Manhattan nightclub Spirit, 530 West 27th Street.

Mirroring the 30th anniversary of the Ramones event in Los Angeles on September 12th, there will be an exhibition of Ramones memorabilia that will include the musical instrument that led the punk revolution -Johnny's white Mosrite., in all its battle-tested glory, and Joey's exquisite rose-tinted glasses. This exhibition will include photographs from the elite New York punk photographers Bob Gruen, Godlis, Leland Bobbe, Roberta Bayley and Stephanie Chernikowski. Ramones mentor and original manager Danny Fields will be part of the exhibit, along with Los Angeles punk photographer Jenny Lens, Janette Beckman and from the UK Ian Dickson. Tommy Ramone will read a special message to all Ramones fans. Mickey Leigh, Joey Ramone's brother, will co-host the show at Spirit, which is produced by the Ramones career-long creative director Arturo Vega.
