Legendary DJ Scott Muni Dies
from: BLACKHEART RECORDS

The greatest DJ in history, Scott Muni, died last night. He was our close friend. He helped us survive the hard struggle when we started. He believed in us when few did. He never turned his back on a friend. He will be dearly missed.

Goodby Scott.
We love U.

N.Y. Radio Legend Scott Muni Dies at 74
from: reuters.com
By Chris Morris

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Scott Muni, one of the legendary voices of New York radio, died Tuesday. He was 74.

The cause of death was not immediately known.

The popular disc jockey, who was an AM and FM star for nearly 50 years in the country's biggest radio market, suffered a stroke in January. It sidelined him from his last on-air job, a one-hour daily show at the New York classic rock station WAQX-FM (Q104.3).

KENNY LAGUNA has seen it all working with JOAN JETT
from: PostCrescent.com
By Jim Lundstrom, Post-Crescent staff writer

KENNY LAGUNA misses the days when the mob was running the music industry and juvenile delinquent street kids were making the records.

"Now corporations run the industry and overeducated computer nerds make the records," Laguna said. "They get a hit and dress up in leather, but, in truth, that's not who they are. That's part of the problem, who the acts are."

Laguna certainly knows his leather-clad rockers, having worked with JOAN JETT from her post-Runaway period on as friend, producer, manager, co-songwriter and, currently, as keyboard player in The BLACKHEARTS, who appear with Jett at Waterfest in Oshkosh on Aug. 22.

Smart, fun soundtracks for 'Garden State,' 'Freaks & Geeks'
from: RGJ.com
by Mark Earnest

Ah, the lost art of the soundtrack. The '80s pretty much ruined them, making them collections of potential hits and new-artist samplers tied to the record label instead of conceptual works tied to the film. The two soundtracks below attempt to remedy that, and both are recommended because of it.

Lawrence Laguna, 84, award-winning architect
from: newsday.com
By Bill Kaufman, Staff Writer

Despite the fact he was an award-winning architect who enjoyed a career that included designing numerous buildings on Long Island and elsewhere, Lawrence Laguna was a very modest man.

"He was not the kind of guy who walks into a room and takes over the room," said family friend Karol Kamin.

Laguna died Sept. 1 in South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside of kidney failure. He was 84.

Jett also loves rocking the troops
from: redding.com
By Constance Pratt, Record Searchlight

JOAN JETT rocks. Everybody knows it, but how many people know that Jett is rock 'n' roll's answer to James Brown and Bob Hope?

She's the hardest-working woman in show business and "she's the number one noncombatant to be in many of last decade's war zones," said Julie Radar of BLACKHEARTS Records.

Jett has entertained in places like Kosovo, Bosnia and Iraq. She's done two tours of Afghanistan, the first one just two months after 9/11. Jett doesn't really like to talk about it, said Radar. She just does it.

Naked CD Review
from: Sonicwave.com
Left Eduardo (Translated from Spanish)

If I say to you that JOAN JETT finished publishing a new disc, probably, you will try not to believed me immediately, but if in addition I say to you that this is perhaps one of the best works of her career, it provides insurance that no longer you will doubt it. The only problem that you can find is that disc is published for Japanese release only, which is more difficult to obtain in Spain and you will have to resort to buying it on an internet store. The disc includes songs written by different people such as Rudy Yuly, singer of the Tiny Hat Orchestra, Paul Westerberg, leader of The Replacements, Joey Levine, Linda Perry, Kathleen Hanna and our own Joan. All have a surprising high level. Joan is excellent singing all the subjects that she never had published on one CD, although she had done it in limited editions, DVDs, etc. Riffs a plenty and classic punk rock with JOAN JETT in top form (impressive cover art) is what you are going to find on this disc. You have to hear her perfect version of Season of the Witch by Donovan. INCREDIBLE.

Real Wild Child Video Anthology Review
from: allmusic.com
by Adrian Zupp

The expression "paved the way" could have been coined for JOAN JETT. Back in the '70s, it was Jett and her fellow nymphs in the RUNAWAYS — along with Suzi Quatro on the other side of the Atlantic — who really laid down the blacktop for later female rockers to take the ride (e.g., the Go-Go's, Hole, L7, Bikini Kill, the Donnas, et al.). Jett, even more so than fellow RUNAWAYS alumna Lita Ford, made it OK to throw on the leather duds and raunch like a guy. Which all makes this two-DVD set pretty significant. Other DVDs exist of concerts by Jett and her BLACKHEARTS band, but this mix of videos, live numbers, interviews, and even TV commercials is the definitive documentary of this talented rock & roll rowdy. In all, there are 37 chronologically ordered music videos here, with a variety of alternate versions paired up with originals. (But that provides welcome insight rather than overkill.) All of Jett's hits are repped, including "Everyday People," "Crimson and Clover," "Do You Wanna Touch Me?," "Light of Day," "I Hate Myself for Lovin' You," "Dirty Deeds," and her signature cover of "I Love Rock & Roll" (which was at number one for seven weeks back in 1982). Highlights are many and include the original color version of "I Love Rock & Roll," an interview with Jett and longtime musical partner KENNY LAGUNA, and a 2001 rendition of "Cherry Bomb" with former RUNAWAYS frontwoman Cherie Currie. Throw in all the extras and you get 144 minutes of pure 5.1 Dolby Digital, boots 'n' all bliss. A woman on top way before anyone ever breathed the term "riot grrrl,"JOAN JETT cross-pollinated rock & roll, punk, and glam and gave it a refreshing female sneer. Real Wild Child is proof positive that the lady with the raspy vox and racoon eye makeup was always way underrated.

Larry Laguna
from: BLACKHEART RECORDS

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Kenny's father, Larry Laguna, on September 1st. This gifted and talented man was an award winning architect who had been listed in Who's Who In America. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, the noted American artist Mariella Laguna. Larry was a modest and dignified man who will be sorely missed.
