Rocker still singing Dean's praises
from: newsday.com

Howard Dean may have stopped campaigning, but hard-driving rocker JOAN JETT is still running to become a Dean delegate in New York's Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday.

Jett first got involved with Dean's campaign about a year ago, after researching the candidates and making a contribution. Jett, famous for her recording "I Love Rock 'n Roll," stumped for Dean in Iowa and New Hampshire. "We went for two days and ended up spending three weeks," said KENNY LAGUNA, her producer and musical partner.

Jett is running for delegate in the Fourth Congressional District where her voting address is Rockville Centre. For Jett to have any chance to be elected as delegate, Dean must get at least 15 percent of the vote in the district.

However, Laguna said Jett's campaigning has been restricted because she is working on finishing an album, "Naked," due out in the summer.

from: cmw.net

International music icon, Cyndi Lauper will treat CMW delegates to a rare, intimate keynote interview as part of this year's Canadian Music Week Executive Conference. Lauper joins a long list of entertainment giants scheduled to speak, including rock legend, JOAN JETT and producer/manager songwriter, KENNY LAGUNA.

Presented by the Songwriters Association of Canada, JOAN JETT and KENNY LAGUNA will be interviewed by host/producer of MuchMusic/MuchMoreMusic Bill Welychka, on Friday, March 5 at 6 p.m. Cyndi Lauper's interview, to be conducted by Canada AM anchor Seamus O'Regan is scheduled for Saturday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per event and can be purchased at Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.ca. Admission is free for CMW delegates and Tune Up pass holders.

Making music for over two decades, JOAN JETT has been a figurehead for several generations of female rockers. Upon teaming up with producer/manager songwriter KENNY LAGUNA, her independently released self-titled debut album in 1980 was the most successful independent rock record of all time. Laguna assisted Jett in forming The BLACKHEARTS, whose first album reached the Top Five with the single 'I Love Rock'n'Roll' hitting the top of the Billboard Charts for seven weeks. Over the course of her extensive career, Jett has worked with the Beach Boys, the Sex Pistols and Paul Westerberg.

Jett heats up her cool, rocking image
from: Chicago Tribune

JOAN JETT hasn't released a new album in five years, typically plays at remote suburban locations and county fairs, and in recent years has shunned the concert circuit in favor of Broadway performances and USO tours.

But as Patti Smith is to punk, Jett is to rock: a pioneer who broke a male-dominated industry's conventions. To generations of aspiring musicians, Jett was proof that a woman with a guitar could be dangerous. Just ask the former members of Bikini Kill and L7, who credit her as a primary inspiration behind the early '90s riot grrl movement, or better still, listen for Jett's influence in the latest music from Sleater-Kinney, The Paybacks or Peaches.

Taking a break from stumping for presidential candidate Howard Dean, Jett and her four-piece BLACKHEARTS performed a no-frills 90-minute set Saturday night in Aurora's Paramount Theatre--a location more commonly associated with family theater and soft crooning than rock. In front of a near-capacity crowd, Jett relished her underdog role, which was made even more challenging by technical problems and a tame audience.
