low resolution image Not Enlargeable Jett began her career in the all-girl rock group, THE RUNAWAYS, with the hit "Cherry Bomb." She latter ventured on her own to form JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS which their music became a staple on the Top 10 charts. This 2-DVD set celebrates Jett's record-breaking talent with more than 35 videos. The DVD showcases such classic songs as: "I Love Rock & Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," and "Do You Wanna Touch Me?" the DVD offers live versions of "Bad Reputation, " "Crimson & Clover" and "Cherry Bomb" featuring former Runaway Cherie Currie.

HOT FYI - After 23 labels refused to pick it up Jett's song "I love Rock N’ Roll" she released it on her own label. The song hit number 1 on the Billboard Chart for two months and has landed as the #28 song of all time on the Billboard Chart.

JOAN JETT still loves rock 'n' roll
from: SouthofBoston.com

Back in the '80s, JOAN JETT's music was rough enough to call punk, but smooth enough to score a handful of hits. A lot of that had to do with her longtime collaboration with manager, song producer and friend KENNY LAGUNA.

Jett and Laguna first started working together in 1979 when Jett was 18. She had been singing and playing guitar in the RUNAWAYS, an all-girl rock band that also featured Lita Ford. Laguna helped Jett produce a six-song EP shortly after the RUNAWAYS abruptly broke up.

At that point, Jett no longer had a band or a record deal, and no one offered to sign her.

JOAN JETT Rocks
from: UCSF Access

I recently placed an early morning phone call to KENNY LAGUNA, who is rock star JOAN JETT's longtime musical partner, collaborator, producer and friend.

"Joan is a hard core rocker and left to herself, she would make straight- ahead punk records," says Laguna. "And myself, if working alone, I would write disposable pop music. So together, we've got this pop punk thing going." Jett has been called "the queen of punk" and "the girl Elvis." She has helped pave the way for many female rockers, including riot grrrl acts like L7, Babes in Toyland and Bikini Kill, all with whom she's musically collaborated.

Captivated by the rawness and onstage performance of glitter rock artists like the New York Dolls, T. Rex and David Bowie in the mid-1970s, Jett joined the Los Angeles music scene in 1975 with the first all-girl hard rock band, The RUNAWAYS.
