Concertgoers love rock 'n' roll -- and U.S.
from: statesman.com

College students played hacky sack. Shirtless, sunburned guys ate turkey legs, and couples sat together on blankets. Everybody was drinking beer. It was another big rock 'n' roll show at Auditorium Shores on Sunday.

But KLBJ's "Shore Thang," the first big concert in town since Tuesday's terror, was anything but a normal event. The crowd pushed up front and pounded their fists, but in many of their hands were flags.

Red, white and blue were everywhere during that rare rock concert that opened with the Army color guard playing "The Star-Spangled Banner," followed by the Bells of Joy, a local gospel group.

America: The Good Neighbor
from: JOAN JETT & KENNY LAGUNA

We are both very proud to be Americans and were touched by this one man's editorial. We would like to share this article with our fans around the world. Gordon Sinclair's comments were orignally broadcast on June 5, 1973:

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

The Barbarians will learn what America's all about
from: Leonard Pitts Jr, Sindicated Columnist

They pay me to tease shades of meaning from social and cultural issues, to provide words that help make sense of that which troubles the American soul. But in this moment of airless shock when hot tears sting disbelieving eyes, the only thing I can find to say, the only words that seem to fit, must be addressed to the unknown author of this suffering.

You monster. You beast. You unspeakable bastard.

What lesson did you hope to teach us by your coward's attack on our World Trade Center, our Pentagon, us? What was it you hoped we would learn? Whatever it was, please know that you failed.

Backstage Beauty: Cynthia Steffe
from: pagesix.com

"It's a mix between a punk rocker queen and a princess," said Cynthia Steffe before the staging of her Fall 2001 collection backstage at Bryant Park. "I'm calling it Blade Runner meets JOAN JETT and ends up on Park Avenue."

"There's a lot of luxury - bits of mink, fur and lots of leather - in wearable, chic cuts like classic trenches, blazers," she explained. "It's an interesting juxtaposition."

JOAN JETT comes to Oceanside
from: lajollanews.com

She is a vision of the power of rock'n'roll at its most basic level. She is the last of a dying breed of rock'n'roll iconoclasts that can hold a crowd in the palm of her hand. She can purr and growl at the same instant, taking you to Heaven and Hell on the same train. She is JOAN JETT, rock'n'roll icon and Baltimore Orioles fan. She's never played by the rules, and that is what makes her matter. She'll be in Oceanside on July 21st, and if you've never seen her act live; well, it's a cathartic moment.
