Top 10 Christmas songs of the 80s
from: examiner.com/

I know most people who think about classic Christmas songs and moving renditions probably think about Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole or some other great singer that was way before the Gen X era. However, for Generation X, the 80s hold some of our Christmas song classics done by great singers like Bruce Springsteen, Bono and Chrissie Hynde. I've compiled a list of what I believe are the top 10 Christmas songs of the 80s. See if you agree with me.

10. Christmas Wrapping -- The Waitresses (1981)
You'll remember them as the band that sang, "I Know What Boys Like". This Christmas song was their take on the new type of music called "Rap". Not bad for 1981.

9. I Wish Every Day Could Be Like Christmas -- Bon Jovi (1987)
Anything Jon Bon Jovi sings sounds good. He could sing me the phone book and I'd give him a standing ovation.

8. Little Drummer Boy -- JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS (1981)
I love listening to the gravelly voice of JOAN JETT singing Little Drummer Boy. Her early 80s rendition of this song belongs on your Christmas playlist.

7. Christmas is the time to Say I Love You -- Billy Squire (1981)
I don't care what anyone says about Billy Squire, the early 80s would not have been the same without him and his music.

6. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) -- U2 (1987)
U2 is one of the greatest bands of all time and I like hearing this song on the 80s station during Christmas time.

5. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas -- The Pretenders (1987)
There's just something about Chrissie Hynde. She was awesome in the 80s and she still is today.

4. Santa Claus is Coming to Town -- Bruce Springsteen (1981)
The Boss rocked this song out in the 80s and you can still here 30 it years later on radio stations at Christmas time.

3. Merry Christmas (I don't want to fight tonight) -- The Ramones (1989)
The music video was funny, and Joey Ramone, well you don't get cooler than him. Love this rock-n-roll Christmas song.

2. Do They Know it's Christmas? -- Band Aid (1984)
Some of the participants in Band Aid included: Boy George, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, Big Country, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Sting, and U2. This Bob Geldof single generated $14 million for famine relief in Africa.

1. Last Christmas -- Wham! (1984)
"Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next year you tore it apart...", so it's a sad Christmas song, but I still rate it as #1 for the 80s.
