MORGANTOWN â€" Thousands of bikers from throughout the country will convene in Morgantown next week for four days of music and motorcycles.

The ninth annual MountainFest will feature classic rock, a custom chopper show and motorcycle stunt shows, among other entertainment.

MountainFest, LLC is a non-profit organization, with proceeds benefiting Mylan Park and related community projects at the recreational and educational complex. "This will be our ninth year," organizer Cliff Sutherland said. "We've donated over $6,000 to charity in the first eight years."

Sutherland helps plan the festival with Steve Solomon, board members and several volunteers.

The result is a $12 million economic impact, drawing about 60,000 bikers to the region.

"We've had motorcyclists here from over 40 different states and Canada and Mexico one year," board member Mike Alexander said.

JOAN JETT, the rock icon best known for her hits with the BLACKHEARTS, will headline this year's event with a performance on the main stage at Mylan Park from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening (July 28, 2013).

JOAN JETT is an originator, an innovator, and a visionary. As the leader of the hard-rocking BLACKHEARTS, she's had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles including the classics, "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "I Hate Myself for Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." She sits at the head of her own independent label, BLACKHEART RECORDS. Jett has acted in movies and television, including 1987′s Light of Day and in a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. She has appeared on such acclaimed television shows as Oprah (the last season) and Law and Order.

Performers will play classic hits at several Morgantown locations, including Triple S Harley-Davidson, the main stage and the Coal Bucket Saloon inside Mylan Park.

Performers include The Guess Who, Three Dog Night, Foghat, Jackyl with Jesse James Dupree and the Davisson Brothers Band, among other acts.

Cover performances are also planned, including Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin tribute band, and Jamiah on Fire and the Red Machine, a Jimi Hendrix tribute band. Alexander is managing the attraction stunt teams this year, as well as various other tasks to make sure the event goes smoothly.

The Ives Brothers "Wall of Death," a motorcycle stunt show including a high powered go-kart on a 15-foot vertical board wall, and Circus Una Thrill Show, a two-woman aerial high-wire act, are on the schedule.

At 1 p.m. on Saturday, about 1,500 bikers are expected to participate in a parade beginning at the WVU Coliseum and winding down High Street. "It's better than the percussion ensemble from a band," Sutherland said. "Take that times a thousand, and that's what it is."
