Star-studded "RUNAWAYS" premiere
from: blogs.sltrib.com

One night after JOAN JETT's triumphant concert at Harry O's on Main Street in Park City, the film "The RUNAWAYS" finally opened to a full house at the Eccles Center.

JOAN JETT and Cherie Currie, the two leaders of the all-girl band of the 1970s called The RUNAWAYS, were on hand and were available for questions after the film, as well as stars Michael Shannon, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.

Shannon never spoke, as most of the questions from the audience focused on the strong women characters, directed by a woman.

"Everyone knows JOAN JETT," said Stewart at one point. "Nobody knows how hard it was to be her."

Inevitably, there were questions about whether Stewart and Fanning did their own singing in the film. Yes, they did. "I had done some singing before," Fanning said. "But nothing as iconic ... I hope I did as good a job as Cherie did."

Jett, who was an executive producer of the film, answered a question about how she felt seeing the film for the first time. "It was very surreal, but in a good way," she said. "I have to give [the actors] credit for their work ethic."

Currie was emotional as she spoke for a few moments. "I'm actually shaking right now," she led off by saying. Then she paused. "Dakota Fanning is my favorite actress of all time," she said, giving props to the actress who portrayed her and who was undeniably the star of the film, although Stweart's "Twilight" experiences have catapulted her to superstardom.

Jett gave a statement that summed up the spirit of the night. She said, "What's so threatening about girls playing rock and roll?"
