Aerosmith lands
Steve Tyler serenades his daughter and grandson as the rock outfit hits the Molson Amphitheatre stage

from: torontosun.com

Aerosmith got up close and personal with their fans -- and relatives too -- last night at the Molson Amphitheatre as veteran frontman Steven Tyler and his Boston bandmates made regular use of a catwalk that often brought them within feet of their besotted audience.

The only annoying aspect was that every close encounter with Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton (drummer Joey Kramer stayed behind his kit and guitarist Brad Whitford also remained back) produced one big photo op as fans rushed down the aisles to take pictures with their cellphones.

Doesn't anyone just sit back and watch a friggin' show anymore?

Apparently not.

Otherwise, Tyler's gorgeous daughter Liv (in town making the Hulk sequel), and who I'm assuming was her young son Milo, could be seen at the side of the stage enjoying the concert along with the crowd.

They were first sighted when Tyler wandered over to sing Pink (in a rather cute coincidence Milo was also wearing enormous pink headphones) and later when he was belting out Walkin' the Dog and whistled, "Come over Rover and let Liv take over!"

Family affair aside, much like they've been doing on this extensive world tour, which is soon to come to a close, Aerosmith opened their two-hour set with Love in an Elevator.

Tyler, 59, was decked out in his usual-over-the-top haberdashery of leopard print hat, sunglasses and a coat that looked like something from a Broadway musical, while Perry favoured black leather pants and a red silk shirt.

v In fact, in one of the concert highlights during Draw the Line, Perry poured water over himself, stripped off his shirt and then bashed his guitar with his wet clothing while gold confetti kicked up.

Other standouts proved to be rather obvious ones, Last Child -- which Tyler claimed they hadn't played in Toronto since a 1976 concert at Maple Leaf Gardens -- Dream On, Livin' On the Edge, Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way -- and blues covers like Baby Please.

Opening last night was '80s rock outfit JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, who proved to be a much classier act than Motley Crue, who accompanied Aerosmith when they were in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre last October.

Jett, who turns 47 in just a few days, has aged well with a lean, hard body of a woman half her age and still has those pleasing-to-the-ear raspy pipes, and favours a tough rock chick look of black leather and black eyeliner.

Her biggest hits, I Love Rock n' Roll, I Hate Myself For Loving You and her cover of Crimson and Clover, came at the end of her 45-minute set but for anyone who missed Jett -- due to the traffic and long box-office lineups -- she'll be returning for a two-night stand at Casino Rama on Feb. 8-9.
