Vegan With a Vengeance Wins ‘Proggy’ From PETA, Rave Reviews From JOAN JETT
from: peta.org

Brooklyn, N.Y. — In recognition of her efforts to provide conscientious cooks with creative, healthy, and humane alternatives to meat-laden meals, Brooklyn’s Isa Moskowitz, author of Vegan With a Vengeance, has won the award for Best New Cookbook in PETA’s 2007 "Proggy" Awards. Proggys—short for "progress"—are presented to animal-friendly people, organizations, and companies. Moskowitz will receive a commemorative plaque and will be featured on PETA.org, which is visited by thousands of people every day.

Without exception, all the more than 150 inspired recipes in the book are Moskowitz originals. From knishes to samosas, cookies to curries, and the familiar to the exotic, Vegan With a Vengeance is sure to dazzle the palates of vegetarians and nonvegetarians alike. With bold dishes such as horseradish- and coriander-encrusted tofu, asparagus and sun-dried tomato frittata, and Jamaican-style jerk seitan as well as mouth-watering desserts like chocolate-raspberry blackout cake and peanut-butter silk pie, Moskowitz makes eating vegan practically decadent.

Writes iconic rocker JOAN JETT on the back cover, "Vegan With A Vengeance is on my kitchen shelf. This fun and creative book is delicious for people like me, who don’t eat pets." In its interview with Moskowitz, Curve magazine described the cookbook as "her anti-cruelty, anti-corporate, take-down-the-man cookbook for the 20- to 30-something set."

This year, there were more than 20 "Proggy" winners, ranging from producers and marketers of vegan foods and cruelty-free personal-care and household products to companies and individuals helping to promote respect and empathy for animals through scientific advances, education, and politics.

"Isa Moskowitz’s phenomenal new cookbook is bound to encourage even diehard meat-eaters to give humane vegan cooking a try," says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. "We’re thrilled to recognize Isa for helping to meet the growing hunger for meatless foods in the most creative and delicious ways imaginable!"
