JOAN JETT is a SINNER (Thank Goddess!)
from: HairMetalAddict's Journal

JOAN JETT has proven her worthiness to retain her crown as the Queen of Rock with newest release SINNER.

In 2004, she put out her first album of all-new material, Naked. The downside was that she was unable to get it released anywhere outside of Japan for some reason.

I've had it for quite a while now, and know the songs by heart.

2006 arrives, and SINNER is released on a more international level. At first glance, it's a redoing of the Naked album. The majority of the tracks appeared on Naked. This was to be expected though, considering the limited availability of Naked. It's the first time these tracks have been released to the rest of the world.

But even for those who already have Naked, this album has some remixing and even rewording that will make those who know Naked inside out have a double-take.

An important note about the Naked tracks is that most all have been remixed in some way. They sound generally the same as their Naked counterparts, but with more guitar emphasis, clearer quality, and such.

Track-by-track:

01) Riddles - This is the music from Naked's "Stuck in the Middle", but with all new text that makes it an anti-war song. "Stuck in the Middle" becomes "Speak to us in Riddles", and such.

02) A.C.D.C - One of the truly new tracks, and a powerhouse rocker it is! It's her leadoff single and a video is already available (http://youtube.com/watch?v=yVlcAJFTPRo). This is a catchy tune that's been stuck in my head from first listen.

03) Five - A laid-back rocker from "Naked".

04) Naked - A gem of a reflective song, and the title track from her 2004 release. Slight wording changes in this version, but not much.

05) Everyone Knows - From "Naked", Joan talks about the rumors of her sexuality. "I don't care everyone knows"

06) Change the World - The second truly new track. Another standard rocker with reflective political sentiments.

07) Androgynous - From "Naked". "Here comes Dick, he's wearin' a skirt..."

08) Fetish - First heard on an earlier compilation of Joan's most sexual songs as the only new track. This is the same (uncensored) version. Also appeared on "Naked".

09) Watersign - From "Naked", a more ballady sound, reminds me more of her "Album" and "Glorious Results" days. A good thing. ;-)

10) Tube Talkin' - From "Naked", a catchy rocker where the chorus gets trapped in the brain cells.

11) Turn It Around - From "Naked", a stand-out must-listen rocker that was also a fave of people who got the Naked album.

12) Baby Blue - A sultry-sounding track from "Naked" that simmers just below the point of rockin', teasing the listener as it slowly builds to the end.

13) A Hundred Feet Away - A re-recording of her track from 1983's "Album". Not sure what the point was to re-doing this particular song. It's not bad, same as the original but with a bit more modern sound. Just confusing as to the point of why it was done.

14) Bad Time "Hey don't even start, I'll tear you apart, this comes at a bad time..." SINNER ends with this Naked gem. Laid-back rock sound, with harsh lyrics about poor timing.

This is a must-have album. Even for those who already have "Naked" like me. Almost all the Naked tracks have new life breathed into them here. The two "new" tracks are worthy listens, and the video for "A.C.D.C." is definitely worth a look: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yVlcAJFTPRo (wise choice picking Carmen Electra to play her "partner", and Joan still looks the badass she's always been).
